  1. you should here me play drums! 😀 i know that album note for note. i don't miss a beat. (trust me 😁). of course. the birdland album. though i played black market a little bit more (and still do some) i feel like i'm in the minority here but i really listened to mr. gone alot (and still do). the one after wayne shorter left (hence the title i think). it's different but has a stark quality about it i like.
  2. "he forgot who he was"??? as he stumbled his way into becoming a multi-millionaire ... 😂
  3. imagine this would be a tough one to play/replicate live. i think a band could get away with some type of lengthy "cloud of noise" at the beginning as surely the audience is all anticipating the fade-in of the chugging guitar, bass and drums laying down the rhythmic bedrock of the song. once you get there you're on your way. i'd think the vocalist would have to be on their game also as it doesn't sound like it would be a very easy song (vocals) to sing live.
  4. absolute classic! i still listen to this all the time. one that i have on lp, cassette, cd and digital (with several back-ups just in case). i agree about the title-track. love it around the 7-7:30 min mark (going by memory) when lenny kicks up the rhythm on the drum set. sensational.
  5. been listening to some modern/free/avant garde new york city jazz stuff. some wouldn't be out of place on the louis balfour jazz club segment from the fast show. 😂 this one sounds almost genre-less though ... has many elements to it. dan weiss - starebaby
  6. no doubt about it, this is top stuff. i still listen to it to this day. i still have the black t-shirt with the cover art on it. 🙂
  7. i've heard a couple other positive comments about that album. (another one i missed). i think it was released one before pxr5. i'll have to give it a listen. the space ritual hawkwind was the pinnacle for me. i still occasionally give it a spin.
  8. hawkwind - pxr5 i'd moved on from hawkwind at the time this was released ... but came across it recently. dave brock and his trademark growling guitar, simon philips, simon house, adrian shaw and bob calvert might just have some of his best work on here. it's difficult to best lyrics such as : "oh for the wings of any bird, other than a battery hen" but "high rise" is eminently listenable. "fly paper stuck with human life" 70's sheffield for the win.
  9. nothing wrong at all with this wearysmith. nice one! made me smile while offering an underlying touch of sadness. (reality?) something about the vocals actually sidetracked me into listening to some beth orton. not the same musically but still worthy. beth orton - trailer park beth orton - central reservation
  10. soft machine - third as much i like robert wyatt's drumming style and his solo album "rock bottom" i could do without the first 9 minutes of moon in june. reportedly he plays all the instruments during this section (reason being depends on who you listen to and who you believe). the quality (for me) begins when ratledge and hopper enter the frey on or around the 9 minute mark. maybe could have been 2 separate tracks. the first 9 minutes is fine, it just belongs on another album. hugh hopper is a national treasure. there is not a guitarist on this album.
  11. been stuck down a miles davis rabbit hole lately. it's all listenable to me but here's a couple of tunes where the drummers are given room to stretch their ryvmics: "what i say" - live-evil (jack dejohnette) also check doncaster born lad john mclaughlin on guitar. there's a section where dejohnette, mclaughlin and henderson on bass seemingly play as a trio (maybe some mellow jarrett keys in the background). awesome stuff. "corrado" - complete bitches brew sessions haven't double checked but has to be billy cobham on drums. only one i can imagine playing like this. sounds just like him. good descending theme throughout. "dual mr tillman anthony" - water babies tony williams. chill and enjoy!
  12. if you don't mind the scent of peppermint in your place, then: get you a bag of cotton wool balls or those flat round makeup pads. get you a bottle (or 2) of 100% pure peppermint oil. be sure to read and follow any directions or warnings on the bottle ... some are more pure than others. place cotton balls or pads on floor around outside edges of rooms and in corners (this is where mice like to travel). if you have an idea of where they may be entering your flat, place particular focus in that area (commonly kitchen areas). if you're seeing mouse droppings in your cabinets and/or drawers then drop a cotton ball in a corner of each one of those ... such as dish cupboards or cutlery drawers. then go round and place a few drops of peppermint oil on each cotton ball or pad. good luck. hope this helps.
  13. like bruce going to newcastle? then what ...
