  1. Remember once sneaking into the Heeley green with a couple of other kids. We weren't in for long though because it was an A film and the usherette came and asked us who we were with and the only thing I could think to say was they'd gone. So they chucked us out !!!! Happy days....

  7. Didn't see the first two BBC serials " The Ouatermass Eperiment 1953, and Quatermass 2 1955 we didn't have a TV till 1957, but I did see the Hammer film versions of both with Brian Donlevy as Quatermass. I did see the Quatermass and the pit serial on BBC TV in 1958 with Andr'e Morell playing the part, And I also watched the ITVs one with John Mills as the Professor in 1979 "Quatermass the conclusion"... Looking back I suppose you could say Quatermass was the forerunner for Dr Who......
  8. I remember going to the Coliseum, but only the once with my Mum and Dad, and we had to queue to get in to see "Annie get your gun" it must have been special at the time because we lived at the other end of town. Yes going to the Cinema was a treat back then and don't forget the serials, we had to sit through some right rubbish to follow Superman and Flash Gordon ......
  9. I agree with the Alien one, some parts of that film really gave me the willlys, you had an Idea what to expect in the one's that came after... Someone also mentioned Jaws earlier, I found parts of the original one so tense I could hardly breath..
  10. I agree theirs a lot of truth in that but who decided to end meaningful apprenticeships ? I know there isn't the call in manufacturing so much these days, but what ever the trade you want to learn there is no better way of learning it than on the job... But back in the day there was no better feeling than getting washed down and togged up for a Saturday night out... Suited and booted.......Magic !!!
  11. I think also one of the difference now is people dress up for work and dress down for play. Back in those days most of us had dirty jobs and looked forward to dressing up for a night out..

  15. Any one remember seeing Quatermass and the pit on BBC TV back in 58/59. It was about an old space craft they had discovered in Hob lane, and in the part where he enters the space craft and one of the skeletons dropped I think every body in the whole country must have jumped at the same time....
  16. Remember seeing Pat Boon at the city hall back then and the Ted Heath band as well. He just waved his baton to start them playing then walked off till they'd finished...
  17. The films today have far better special effects than the old X films I know but a film I never saw at the time and only heard about as a kid back in the 40s gave me more nightmares than anything I've ever seen since... Peter Lorre in the Beast with five fingers. Just thinking about it still gives me the creeps..

  24. Looking back to when I was a nipper we didn't have the variety of ready made junk food that is available for kids today, so we had to invent our own and we weren't bad at it either...
