  1. Last week I went with a friend to his flat in a N. Wales seaside town to investigate a water leak from the flat above, which was a very small attic flat on the second floor. The owner of the flat let us in and we were greeted with an horrific mess, piles of rubbish in every corner, across the floor. He had been just tossing all his rubbish in the flat for the past 18 mth , a mountain of beer cans, food/cake/chocalate wrappers etc. The owner (a youngish man) apparently had psychological issues and was grossly obese. We located the leak and fixed it, however to help both him and us we decided to clean out all the rubbish and hoover up. The toilet/ shower cubical was a sight to behold (dare not show photos!), I was shoveling "debris" off the floor with a plastering trowel. After a day and a half, it was beginning to look reasonable. my friend then bought and fitted a new toilet seat. In the pic are about 24/25 full bin bags of rubbish, we had to leave some rubbish due to time constraints but I would estimate about another 5 bags to fill. While we were there, some rep from the council came and my friend gave them a "piece of his mind" about the situation.
  2. Or rather, mischief at Beauchief! (Cockshutt Road I think is in Beauchief)
  3. Not sure, but I thought that Walkley County Seniors transferred to Myers Grove. I know that school used M.G. playing fields.
  4. If you qualify for total or significant council tax relief, the amount is less of a problem.
  5. Let's not forget Putin's arrest warrent by ICC: The International Criminal Court (ICC) is an international court located in The Hague, Netherlands, created in 1998 by the Rome Statute. Both Russia and Ukraine signed the Statute, but neither ratified it and Russia withdrew its signature from the Statute in 2016 following a report that classified Russia's annexation of Crimea as an occupation; however, Ukraine accepted the Court's jurisdiction on its territory in 2014, allowing the Court to investigate alleged crimes committed during the course of the Russo-Ukrainian war.[4] The court received total cooperation from the Ukrainian authorities.[5] On 4 February 2015, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine appealed to the ICC to investigate crimes against humanity committed by Russian forces on Ukrainian territory since 20 February 2014, and to hold accountable the responsible senior officials of the Russian Federation.[6] On 24 February 2022, Russia invaded and occupied parts of Ukraine in a major escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian War, which began in 2014. During the invasion, Russia has abducted thousands of Ukrainian children in the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine and has deported them to Russia.[7] Ukrainian officials are investigating more than 16,000 suspected cases of forced deportation of minors.[8] Russia has acknowledged transferring 2,000 children without guardians.[5] In May 2022, Putin ordered to simplify the issuance of Russian citizenship to Ukrainian orphan children.[9] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine emphasized that by doing this, "Putin effectively legalized the abduction of children".[9] In August 2022, Gyunduz Mamedov, Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine in 2019–2022, said that the deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia (more than 300,000 according to the Russian Federation) is the most promising way to prove genocide.[10] In September 2022, Lvova-Belova, holding the office of the Commissioner for Children's Rights of Russia, described how the abducted Ukrainian children were initially hostile towards Russia and Putin, but after the process of "integration" the children's negative attitude gradually "turned into love".[11] Rest of it is on Wikipedia section.
  6. Seem to remember that some brands had the banned "hydrogenated fats" on the ingredients list.
  7. was built The Farfield (Hillfoot Bridge) built in 1753 and survived the Great Flood in 1864. Originally built as a gentleman’s residence for an officer from the barracks it has been a public house since the 19th century.
  8. About 4 weeks ago in Morrisons Hillsboro I noticed a woman pushing a trolly loaded to the top (with more boxes on top of that) go through the auto barriers and out towards the entrance. Must have timed it when the guard had moved away.
  9. The shop staff have no legal right to look into your bags, neither do the security staff, only the police.
  10. If their salaries and pensions depended on satisfying your grant, they'd be falling over themselves to get to your door with the cheque!
  11. Hope it turns out better than Park Hill, Kelvin Flats, Gleadless Valley etc. Wonder who's going to pay for the maintenance of the gardens?
  12. No, a rental property with a tenant is not a second home. The tenant pays standard C.T.
  13. Sally Knyvette (as was in Blakes 7 series 1).
  14. They forgot about utility companies' repair standards!
  15. aardvark, alchresearch, thank you. The listings form appears to have altered format since introduction of GSP.
  16. Can someone tell me how to find the option which prevents bids from anyone outside UK?
  17. Looks like their dream of a Bentley's dealership has gone down the pan.
  18. He can sell the day after buying, but would have to pay all the discount back. The amount would decrease each year up to the 5 year mark then nothing to pay back; assuming the rules haven't changed in the recent past.
  19. Temu works like Amazon, they're a platform for different sellers. Some items are ok, others not well made. A friend quite likes some of the stuff he has bought, depends what the item is. Plenty of videos about them on youtube.
  20. Looked out the window other week and saw a van parked on our cul-de- sac with the lettering "Amey Inspection Unit" or similar. I tapped on the side window and asked if they would log a seriously bad sunken grate about 1/4 of a mile away on the main road. He said we don't do that area, but made a note of it, I hope.
  21. Buxton Quarry Handsworth Sweetcheeks Registered User Members 12 805 posts Joined Mar 2006 Report post #2 Posted September 25, 2022 Hi Newhorizons, I believe the quarries were situated down Finchwell Road. According to Sandra Gillott in her book 101 Things to know about Handsworth, there were six quarries altogether but by 1900 only 3 remained. One of them was owned by the Buxton family [Joseph Buxton I believe]. Quarry Road runs from Finchwell Road to the Parkway and the new estate is built on the quarry site. I believe Buxton's house still stands on Handsworth Road. It looks like the lake was possibly one of the disused quarries. Hope that this is of some use but would suggest contacting The Handsworth Historical Society who would be able to give you much more information.
  22. Apart from making enquiries on standard conveyancing forms, the solicitor or conveyancer might not delve much further if he has already enquired of Town Hall records, that is if there were any recorded about types of waste etc on that site at that time. So, info from existing/former residents might prove useful.
  23. Sounds like that episode of the Thin Blue Line where the Detective and his sidekick knocked down the door of the wrong house.
  24. There's several pot-hole repair machines shown on youtube, although these can't cope with the bigger excavations done by utility companies, particularly when the road is cut one side to the other. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=pothole+repair+machine
