  1. The Government. Once you've become an "immortal", you'll then be subject to the new (pension) life-expectancy rules. You'll only need one passport photo though.
  2. Better cancel the life assurance policy, too, and if you're just before retirement age, you'll miss out on an eternal pension, free tv licence, etc.
  3. I'd probably have altered shape somewhat after hitting the ground at 120mph, but "re-constructed" man would take on a whole new meaning.
  4. Now I'll be able to do my parachuting without the expense of a parachute.
  5. I heard that it was the last Art Deco (industrial?) building left in Sheffield, although perhaps there are some more like the old cinemas.
  6. No, that'll be insurance companies, who invoke the gods to escape liability.
  7. Looks like Pete Stringfellow's going to have to ban himself.
  8. I had to tighten the filter on a friend's Mazda Demio to stop an oil leak, he'd had a new filter fitted at some garage a few weeks previous.
  9. During the war, a friend of mine (still alive) who was a singer, toured many of the prisoner-of-war camps and army bases around Sheffield entertaining the guards and soldiers.
  10. In the wild, they actually bark very little. If a dog is tied up and left alone, they can bark continuously due to stress. There are other reasons, one being attention-seeking which can be the result of poor (or lack of) training.
  11. I had a new one made (with chip) at the cobblers within Morrisons, Hillsbro, for £25 (96 Astra), although it may be more for later models.
  12. Blimey, it's probably worth more than the hut!
  13. I've got one under the side of my hut (half buried, reddish colour) but it's a shallow type, at a guess, six or seven inch deep, is it worth digging up?
  14. A couple of years ago or so, a friend went on a coach trip up to Harry Ramsdens, and although they were impressed with the biggest chip shop in the world, they also discovered that they served the world's smallest fish and chips.
  15. Tried to chrome plate my Reliant Robin but it wouldn't take very well., so I'm going to try Fablon.
  16. Have you any installation instructions for these panels?
  17. What you need is a direct current to direct current converter (DC/DC), say 14V to 25V input and 12V or 9V output to power a small amplifier, although the current drawn by most amps is dependant on the speaker and the volume setting. I think you can couple the panels in parallel giving about 1.2 amp, but to charge a 12V battery you will need about 14.5V and ideally a circuit which reduces the current to prevent overcharging when it is fully charged. A point to bear in mind is that the panels' outputs could vary depending on the strength of the sun. There should be plenty of converters on the market to suit your needs but I'm sure other posters will give you further advice. You might have had better results if you had posted in the computer and tech-chat section.
  18. Grahame has some knowledge on power supplies. Is it an old lead acid or newer sealed type? You'll only be able to trickle charge in any event. You might be able to power a small amplifier and speaker.
  19. What car is it, does battery have round or flat terminals?
  20. Bear in mind that the fitters don't like too much heavy furniture in the room and the bottom of doors might have to be trimmed, in which case they'll detach them and then it is you that will have to get them cut and re-hung. Also, tell the shop whether you have a wooden floor or a solid one. If it's a small room you might be able to get a roll end.
  21. In my schooldays (50s and 60s) choosing a May queen was a tradition, and I well remember the Maypoles. Wonder why it fell from favour?
  22. There were a lot of people around when I took the pic on my old Optio pocket camera else I would have took different angles etc, and although the sky was bright it was overcast else I could have obtained richer contrast and colours. Promised myself to go back when the sun was out, but didn't. Still, there's next year. Must admit I've enjoyed the blossom trees in Sheffield so far this Spring.
  23. It's so difficult to say without actually hearing it. It might even be an exhaust/downpipe problem. Can't you get a friend, or pop into a small local garage to give an opinion?
  24. No, Blanchards were down near the Infirmary, and the shop we're referring to was either the Co-op or Gallons who were next door to Skeltons pet shop at the bottom of Grammar St. Their over-head pneumatic delivery systems (in both these shops) certainly did entrance the kids.
