Where can I buy rechargeable Batteries?
Bertielil replied to Bertielil's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Thanks for the Bardwell suggestion, will phone them tomorrow. Have looked at their website and it looks quite promising. -
I'm sure a kind person on here can help, I need 14500 (AA) Li-ion 3.2V batteries for my solar lights. Preferably in S11, S17 or S8. Many thanks.

I want to buy a whole salmon to poach in a court bouillon for a 90th Birthday Party in July. Any suggestions as to the best fishmonger and the best value for money, ( I don't mean cheap, I know that it won't be). Thank you.

Weight watchers or slimming world which is the best
Bertielil replied to charmaine79's topic in General Discussions
Lady Star, SW now do an Extra Easy plan, which I suppose is a mix of Red & Green, so you can basically eat anything as long as you watch your bread & fat intake. Really suits me as I love meat, fish, veg, salads, pasta, rice, couscous, spuds etc. & haven't got a sweet tooth. -
Weight watchers or slimming world which is the best

It cost me £9.95 to join & then £4.95 each week. I've lost 2.5stones since January & have been eating masses, really enjoying it. -
How to keep slugs off my plants??
Bertielil replied to naomi2010's topic in Allotment & Gardening Group
We grow our hostas (which slugs adore) in pots with copper tape round the edges. If you're looking to protect plants in the ground the previous poster has given excellent advice. -
The Attic sandwich shop, city centre
Bertielil replied to Mrs Moo's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
It was lovely & great people to work for, which I did at the beginning of the 70's for a few months. I remember the walls having Joe Scarborough originals, which were for sale, (before he was famous). It would be fantastic to have it again, the sandwiches were amazing & really different, at the time when every other sandwich shop was selling stuff comparable with British Rail. lol. -
Spoilt For Choice, Ecclesall Road, opposite Tesco.

What Old Maid Remedies Did Your Mum Use?
Bertielil replied to old tup's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
I had pneumonia when I was 5 & apart from the horrid, huge nurse arriving every day for the first week to give me penicillin injections, my parents were advised to put mustard poultices on my chest "to draw the humours". This by Doctor Andrew Stephen ( later Sir) whom many of the Sheffield Wednesday stalwarts will remember. He was a lovely man, always called me "Miss Muffett", although I wasn't too happy with his advice to my parents. lol. -
Please can anyone suggest the best value for money timber garden gate supplier. I've looked at the larger outlets (B&Q etc) and they seem awfully flimsy. I need a gate, posts & furniture, not the installation. Many thanks.

Yes, Wickersley is very lovely.

Still call her Mummy after well over half a century. My son calls me Mama, just love it. My husband called his beloved mother Mummy until he was about 18 when she asked him to call her by her first name, which he did until she died at the age of 92.

I would agree Bonjon with regards to Dore, I much prefer Ranmoor & parts of Fulwood (Stumperlowe, Snaithing), lovely Edwardian & Victorian properties. Wish I could afford to live there, sadly no lottery win this week. lol.

Location every time. better to buy a hovel in a good area than a mansion in a bad one. You can always improve the hovel it takes decades to improve an area.

Has Two Steps chippy changed hands?
Bertielil replied to Cymraes's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Had fish from Two Steps yesterday & it was vile, batter soggy & fish very grey along the base, threw the whole lot in the bin after 2 bites. Big let down, will not be buying from there again. -
On Sunday 19th June, John Hallatt, former vicar of Wadsley Parish Church, is holding a service to celebrate 50 years in the priesthood followed by drinks & refreshments. The service to be held at 10.00am is in St Peters Church, Woodleigh Road, Monkseaton, Whitley Bay. I know it's a trek, so some of us are making a weekend of it. John would like to see his old friends & parishioners. If anyone wants more info please pm me.

Do women shake hands with people they meet etc
Bertielil replied to adelrose's topic in General Discussions
Always shake hands on the first meeting, male or female, be it work, social etc. Just hate limp hand shakes & I am surprised how many, over the years, have been men, come on guys, get a grip, lol. -
I am trying to source a Chilean Fire Thorn & a Strawberry Tree, I have tried the usual suspects, New Leaf, Ferndale, Wards etc. Does anyone know of a garden centre not too far away, (I live on the S. Yorks/Derbys border), which is likely to stock these. Thank you.

Having done both, Weight Watchers about 7 years ago & Slimming World currently, I am finding SW preferable. I have lost weight more quickly, I wonder if it is related to the type of food I like. I love fish, meat, fruit, veg, pasta, rice, couscous etc & do not have a 'sweet tooth', What do you think? I am very interested to know.
