  1. Again it's about how you define poor. When most write about being poor they commonly use the relative poorness scale which is not about actual poverty but perceived poverty relative to the average wage and high earners. Me bolded. That is not necessarily true. Its true that the above may apply to pensioners that have enjoyed a high income but not true of those pensioner on lower incomes who never bought a home. I think it around 94% for those who had an average income of £55,000+ and drops to 66% for those with an income of 17,000+. All benefits should be means tested but whether someone owns the home should not be part of that.
  2. According to Robert Jenrick (Housing Secretary) mask wearing from the 19th onwards will become a matter of personal choice. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-57710527 Now let's see how many of those normal, responsible, respectful, decent people will carry on wearing them after the 19th when the legal requirement to wear them stops.
  3. Well the good news seems to be that Boris has decided to end facemask wearing, the one metre rule in pubs and restaurants and the legal requirement for customers to sign in at bars, restaurants and other venues using QR codes or by handing over contact details from the 19th.
  4. I think you will find that most EU nations are also increasing the retirement age to at least 65 and in some cases to 67 which makes sense so it's not just the Tories. People keep banging on about the poor but when it comes to reality its very hard to find anyone who is actually poor even with pensioners.
  5. I now agree and that is the reason why I amended my view in post #53.
  6. Actually that sort of makes sense anyway as free travel (bus pass) is now also at retirement age when it previously was also 60.
  7. As you have rightly pointed out its about risk management and trying to minimise that risk. Another example would be having to wear a hard hat.
  8. I doubt it and think it could have been Hancock himself. What seems odd in all of this is the cameras must be linked up to some sort of central control to have been recording and recording this. That means that the person in control would have been responsible for where the cameras were pointed but we have not heard about that aspect of it or who was actually in charge. Not forgetting also that security clearance would be needed so not just anybody could have done it or had access to the recording.
  9. Mainly because it has been made mandatory in a lot of situations and not out of decency or responsibility as you seem to think.
  10. Not really sure if that is much of a problem given how many in the UK have now been vaccinated as the more that are vaccinated the less chance of that happening. The way I see it is we should now be concentrating on getting other countries with low vaccination rates up to scratch as that is where the potential for new variants to arise is as shown by the latest lot of variants. I think you underestimate what this government have achieved with the vaccination program and they dont seem to be just relying on vaccinations either hence the delay in easing lockdown.
  11. One of my favourite Gilmour tracks.
  12. You missed out the shagger bit as that also seems popular on here.
  13. Me bolded. That may actually be a bit on the high side as according to ourworldindata.org only 23.98% of the population in Australia have had just one dose and only 4.75% have received two.
  14. "Domina" a supposedly historical drama based on the life of Livia Drusilla 5/10. Was looking forward to this as it had Liam Cunningham in it and was billed as "This Roman epic fills a gory, horny, Game of Thrones-shaped hole" but it is nothing like it and sadly disappointed. Some of the acting I found poor and the story the same with miscast bunch of actors who then changed suddenly as they had grown up in episode 3. The young Livia (Nadia Parks) was now replaced by the older Livia (Kasia Smutniak) who has a very strong Polish English accent which completely threw it off and spoiled it. Cant see it lasting long if at all.
  15. Stopped watching it when Rick Grimes got killed? off as it had also become very much of the same. Be interesting how it finishes though especially as its crossover Fear The Walking Dead, same timeline and with Morgan from TWD, has now had Nukes going off everywhere and spreading radiation everywhere.
  16. "The Ice Road" on Netflix/Amazon starring Liam Neeson... 5/10 and billed as a nail biting thriller. Not much in the way of action or thrills and more like a B movie. Should have had a bottle of wine as I may have enjoyed it more!
  17. Me bolded. Maybe because he was also a "shagger" and had had an affair with her in the past.
  18. I think what Harry has done is a start. One thing is for certain...I am getting really fed up with the constant bombardment in the press and elsewhere of photos and articles about William and Kate as if they are somehow Saints for doing what they do. If her Maj had any sense she would quit, put an end to it all now and go out on a high as the last Monarch of the UK. I think I had read somewhere that her subjects don't think Charles would make a good King and prefer William and Kate as they are more popular... may heaven forbid that one!
  19. Because it a personal choice in a free society. Do you stop crossing the road because you have a chance of being knocked down.. no, as with many other things that may be dangerous it's a matter of risk management. As for me I wouldn't take the risk and have been fully vaccinated.
  20. A low risk though with only 53 out of those 15,893 actually confirmed so hardly a 1 in 200 chance. This bit I find interesting though: "There is currently no evidence that the Delta variant, or any other Variants of Concern, are more likely to cause reinfection than others, but we will closely monitor this."
  21. But that is going down similar lines as proving you have a valid reason not to wear a face mask and which I find unacceptable, and we already know how people react on here about that. That is true but it is still a personal choice in what is still a fairly free society.
  22. Not really true though as the recovery from this virus is mainly down to the immune system response and that why it does not target one specific age group alone ie the old. You are also suggesting that this virus will be around and active for many years to come as well.
