  1. Surely his religious faith should have protected him from that as well. (see my sig)
  2. I don't read press reports as I don't read newspapers. In the main I only read the BBC news page or the press reports and stuff that is normally linked by posters on SF, unless its from twitter or its ilk. That is why I asked where the 25% claim was reported. It's much easier if people provide links that can be verified as the source of the claim is also important.
  3. This guy though his religious faith would protect him and sadly it didn't. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-57958358
  4. I dismiss the first link as anti brexit bias as it clearly was. It had nowt to do with any poll and was just the usual anti brexit anti johnson and anti conservative rant. Johnson's popularity may have recently declined but it will probably bounce back the same as it has done before when it declined in the past. As the second of your links basically put it... despite the recent decline in points he and the conservatives would still command a majority if it came to an election. When it gets nearer the time for an election then let's revisit this as anything can happen between now and then as we still have plenty of time to go.
  5. I agree with the first comment in that link... "Another example of lazy Journalism" and no references to actual data, but that's not surprising as it is from a very anti brexit author in an anti brexit news rag that can't help referencing brexit at the earliest convenience. A bit of a better attempt based on an actual poll unlike the above rant by Patrick Cockburn. Old news which we have discussed before.
  6. The GFA agreement was about demilitarization and the removal of fortified army barracks, police stations and watchtowers along the border. It never mentioned anything about the borders or border posts itself. It was designed to end conflicts along the borders and help bring about peace. Quote from the BBC: "The agreement states that "the development of a peaceful environment... can and should mean a normalisation of security arrangements and practices." The government committed to "as early a return as possible to normal security arrangements in Northern Ireland, consistent with the level of threat". That included "the removal of security installations". That is as far as the text goes." So not having border posts was never part of the GFA but something that was seized upon by the EU as a brexit bargaining chip.
  7. Doing that creates an automatic inflation spiral though, although a bit of inflation can also be a good thing. That is also because there are not enough rental housing being built be it affordable social housing or otherwise. If too much rental housing is built the house prices would become lower and people who have bought one could then get into negative equity. Their home could then be worth less than what they originally paid for it.
  8. He didn't lie to Her Maj though. That was just something the media were happy to spread.
  9. That border is a necessity in order to comply with EU import and export regulations on trade and does not mean NI are a member of the EU/ in the EU. Just as West 77 pointed out Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland are not in the EU but also have borders with them for trade regulations.
  10. Not sure what you mean... He has always predicted a very wide range of figures with the higher figures given usually as being the worst case scenario statistics, one of the reasons he was always picked on for being wrong. For instance in that article the bit in bold under the headline reads "......with Covid cases in the UK possibly reaching 200,000 a day. Further down he then states "there could be as many as 2,000 daily hospital admissions per day" and after that "....it was "almost certain" that the UK would reach 100,000 cases and 1,000 hospital admissions per day.... So we now have a range of 1,000 to 2,000 hospital admission per day and 100,000 to 200,000 cases per day just in one article. His past history of pandemic predictions has also been a bit dodgy. He predicted in 2009 that 65,000 people would die from swine flu, but in fact only 457 lost their lives prompting the government to actually say the figures was a worst case scenario. With the Bird Flu outbreak in 2005 he predicted it could possibly kill between 50 to 200 million when in fact it ended up being 455 worldwide deaths. In 2002 he estimated that the deaths resulting from mad cow disease to be between 50 to 50,000 but the actual deaths in total have been 178 and none recorded since 2016. Now you know what I mean when I said I give it some obvious doubt.
  11. Thanks. Now I know it was Prof Neil Ferguson who said that I will give it some obvious doubt. His modelling predicts worse case scenarios and as such the media pick up on it because it sounds scary.
  12. There may be more infections reported but those figures could be down to more testing being done and does not necessarily mean that the NHS will be overwhelmed and we get another shortage of beds or that the death rate will suddenly skyrocket. Where were the modelling figures you posted from?
  13. As above. If you need the fuse box (consumer unit) moving then you would probably need a complete rewire to cope with the difference in distance of the wiring you presently have.
  14. If it's the law then I will comply as I have done in the past. Oddly enough I have just been reading about our future King who is reported as saying he will only wear a face mask if he has to.
  15. Some leavers may have been abusive but that I think was to counter the abuse from others and the media by calling them thick, uneducated, racist, xenophobic etc just because that voted to leave. I myself I hope did not follow that trend much as I try (unlike others) not to be abusive at all in any of my posts. Some here seem to do it on purpose though just to goad people.
  16. You are correct and as I have said that on these forums several times.... I only wear one to comply with the law and as of the 19th I will cease to wear one... simples....
  17. Me bold... And there we have it, designed to cover any possibility the big IF.....
  18. Of course not. Now I know you have been getting your information over the past few months from anti-vax / covid denier forums I am now suspect of anything you say as it well known they are wrong, or did you not say that????.....
  19. But how do you know? Apart from the self righteous attitude guess of yours..... As far as I remember there are no laws on mask wearing standing outside a boozer and I do actually know a few people who are disabled and also smoke, so that is nothing to go by either. Let's face it you and others on here are just ****** off that someone is doing something you don't like and that is all. As someone put on another thread about coronavirus.... "How about mutual respect?"
  20. No, just concerned that people know and understand a law that to them didn't exist and get the law right, after all ignorance of the law is no defence in a court.
  21. Cough... Try checking on the law first before you make spurious accusations. The motorcycle Crash-Helmets (Religious Exemption) Act, 1976. In November 1976, Her Majesty the Queen gave her Royal Assent to a Bill to exempt turbaned Sikhs from having to wear crash-helmets when riding a motor-cycle: The motorcycle Crash-Helmets (Religious Exemption) Act, 1976. Sikhs are also exempt from rules requiring them to wear head protection in the construction industry as well.
  22. No you and I don't know there is a significant number as there is no way of knowing unless non mask wearers are challenged to somehow prove their exempt or have already told people they just won't wear one. It's a bit like saying masks significantly reduce the spread of coronavirus as someone once said of SF when there is actually no data to back that up. It is plain that many of the anti vax and anti mask brigade don't wear them and that can clearly be seen in the media clips of demos but they are a minority of the general population. But all in all when I use public transport or go into shops there are very few, and sometimes none, who are not wearing masks. That is not the point as it's a matter of law and the same goes for wearing masks. Its either compulsory or not (given exemptions) and in two days from the 19th it will no longer be compulsory for the general public to wear one.
