I am really sorry to hear that. I live on a very busy main road and have had two cats killed on there and i know it is heartbreaking. Cats are free creatures and will always dash across a road but if cars arent going too fast they might stand a chance to get across safely. Take care and i really hope she pulls through.

That's reminded me of my Dad who used to say "Gerron wit washing" when someone was going round the houses before getting to the point.

i was talking to my sister the other day and we were on about a celebrity. I said "He'll do owt to get his fizzog on tele!" The lady who was sat nearby burst out laughing. She said she hadnt heard anyone use that word for years.

It seems to me that Employers can do whatever they like at the moment and are taking full advantage of the fact that employees have no power now whether with a union or without.

Yes i remember, they were my doctors during my childhood. Dr Taylor was the junior partner then. He diagnosed me with hepatitis after Dr Botros had twice diagnosed it as indigestion.

Graves isnt really the best place if you are nervous. No matter what time you go it seems to be busy. i don't know if you are male or female but they did used to do a ladies only session around 5pm one evening and that was usually quietish. Good luck, take the plunge!

Did anyone on live on the Manor in the Seventies?
Caz1 replied to leto's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
i lived on the Manor on Alison Crescent from 1964 till about 83 . I remember playing in the street with the other kids, rounders, film stars, and other things. I also remember putting on little plays with my friend Carol. We used to either do a few songs for the other kids or put on little Steptoe and Son sketches. We always celebrated Halloween by making lanterns out of swedes and we always used to do a Guy at Bonfire Night and make a little money for Sparklers. Also at Christmas we used to go Carol singing in a little group. I have some really good memories from that time, the Manor wasnt all bad. -
you sound just like my husband. He is always commenting how all the girls look like clones of each other . He says peroxide blond hair sometimes with straggly extensions and orange tanned skin.

yes i do remember mrs ingram, i was only a kid so only knew her by that name. My parents insisted we did not call adults by their christian name. -
All these posts bring back some lovely memories. We used to pub crawl as those exact pubs and then hit Romeos usually. Happy days.

Where is this?

We have had similar thing at our place. Mind you where i work people do come to work sick cos theyre scared to death of being sacked for being sick. And it does happen, i know people who have actually been in hospital or having operations and they are still hauled up to see the boss and given a warning about being sick. Its about time that employers realised that pressurising people to come to work sick only means there are twice as many people off in the long run

I really don't think these people are starving. Came across them a few weeks ago. The teenagers they had with them had the latest jeans on and fashionable clothes, not to mention the bling. Its a flaming cheek and if it happens again i will do what one person suggested and take the card to have a better look and will rip it up. Britain should do what a lot of countries do and not let foreigners live her unless they can support themselves. What is worse is these people are quite agressive and confronted an old chap walking down High Street who went into his shopping bag and gave one of them a banana, i then saw her put it in the bin.

What is it like to work in a call centre??
Caz1 replied to booboo240906's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
and that's being kind! -
hi, is greenhill a nice place to be, just off A61
Caz1 replied to *smiley*'s topic in Sheffield Property & Housing
Greenhill is nice. True it is near to Lowedges but you can't tar everyone with the same brush. We have lived in the area nearly 20 years. In that time we have had attempted break in once and our car stolen. Mind you the car was stolen from Graves Leisure Centre and was found abandoned on Lowedges. Don't be put off though . It has some nice pubs, restaurants and takeaways. Shops, and is near to Meadowhead and Woodseats for shopping and buses. -

i certainly wouldnt recommend it. Apparently they are known as modern day sweat shops. From "plugging" in at start of your shift you are constantly monitored. How long calls take, how many calls you take, how often you log off to go for toilet breaks, whether you stick to the script. You are treat like you are in infant school and not expected to have any opinions of your own. Yes you can get good money but is it worth it? I would stay where i were and try to get an increase in pay. If not stay put and look for something better. Avoid call centres like the plague -
Is there any particular reason you want to know? It was nearly 20 years ago now but it was an end terrace on a corner.
-
yes it was Hackthorne Road.

Hi there We lived there approx 19 years ago in an end terrace. When the sale was going through it was found to have black ash mortar which caused the wall ties to rot and the top of the house to bow out. We ended up having to have this corrected before we could sell and it cost us about £4000 which was a lot of money then. The surveyor did say that it was the time it was built and black ash mortar was quite common and he reckoned all the houses on that road were probably the same. This would certainly show up in a survey though . It was usual at that time for the buyer and seller to split the cost of the work but our buyer couldnt afford it and since we already were paying a mortgage on our new home we ended up footing the whole bill.
