  1. I always say i am a Sheffielder first, then a Yorkshire lass, then English, then British and at a push next European.
  2. I would recommend Top Thai as well.. Haven't eaten in but several takeaways have all been good.
  3. That's awful. All the best to your family. Hope you get justice.
  4. I used to go to Pipworth school and always remember the daffodils around Easter Time.

The Eyre family at 112 alison Cres were good friends of the bookers. We were 5 sisters, Janet was the second to eldest. i am the youngest Carol.
  6. Just seen the sad news about Pops. If i had known i would have attended his funeral. I had a lot of respect for him. RIP.
  7. If you get on to the Moor its just as bad with mostly Amnesty International trying to sign you up. It does get ridiculous some days.
  8. I have thought they were a rip off for years. My Dad died several years ago and my hubby went out to put the notices in the Star. The main reason for doing that was that he had a lot of friends he met up with for a cuppa in cafes etc and we didnt know them all. When my husband said how much it had cost i was shocked. Over £150 for a few lines. It is a rip off for what is esentially a local paper. Disgusting.
  9. i think everyone just wants to feel they belong somewhere and when you walk around your home city and rarely hear anyone else speaking english it feels sad.
  10. As you can see you're not alone. My work mate and i once jumped in a car at the traffic lights me in front her in the back before realising it wasnt my hubby picking us up. We just screamed sorry and fled. !
  11. Too many songs to mention. I was dancing with my new fella in a nightclub and the Foreigner song came on "i've been waiting for a girl like you" which was mine and my first loves song. Well i just said sorry and dashed off and left him standing on the dancefloor like a lummox. ! Other then that Kung Fu Fighting reminds me of schooldays and later on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack never fails to bring memories flooding back.
  12. The Valle family lived up till recently on sharrow road Harry Valle or valley was my mums uncle . The house is next to the jaguar garage on sharrow lane and is a listed building . 13. Try these two, the sheffield indexers site is particularly good. http://www.sheffieldfhs.org.uk/ http://www.sheffieldindexers.com/
  14. Dr Botros was my doctor when i was a child. Mum called him out twice because when i was 10 or 11 i woke up to find the room spinning round, couldnt taste anything, had a stinking headache and my urine was dark brown. Twice he came out and said i had indigestion. It wasnt until the 3rd time and his junior partner came that i was diagnosed with Hepatitis and spent a couple of weeks in the isolation ward at lodgemoor.
  15. Hi there I visited Portland works last week on an open day and one of the businesses in there made custom kitchen units . The works is on Hill Street near Go Outdoors and they have a little showroom there. They advertise themselves as designers and manufacturers of hand built furniture for kitchens, bathrooms etc. The items we saw were very skillful and lovely. They are called "Quality Cabinetry" and there number is 01142754276 and the address is 79 Hill Street. I don't suppose it will be cheap but if you only want one may be okay.
  16. i know there are some genuinely deserving people on benefits who cannot work but i work with a depressive illness and severe debilitating migraines and i always have. I am sad to say that i do have a close relative who despite mental illness i believe can easily work but chooses not to. Whenever there are changes in benefits proposed she starts to suffer episodes again. She has not worked for years but i believe it isn't the mental illness stopping her, it is her lack of confidence and social skills due to the fact she hasn't worked for years. I believe if the government want to stop this cycle they need to put more into helping people move on despite their sickness. I have worked with blind people, MS sufferers, severely disabled people in wheelchairs, epileptics and diabetics. They all did the same job as i did. Everyone can do something. I won't be signing the petition sorry
  17. Hi i noticed that BHS had started to stock their summer stuff, beach wear, bikinis etc
  18. I'm really sorry to hear that. We were burgled in March this year and it was very traumatic and still causes nervousness now. Also one of things people don't think about is the problem we are having now getting insurance. We had to be referred to a specialist broker and it is costing around £300 more then last year. Anyhow i wish you good luck. Keep your chins up.
  19. This really annoys me. Its about time some police persons realise that not all the general public are criminals. They should treat people with respect like other public servants have to do. If you commit a crime you deserve what you get but the police feel they have the right to speak to the public anyway they want and should be out there catching the thieving scum bags that burgle peoples houses not picking fights with motorists yet again.
  20. what was that cafe called on the gallery? Was it Minerva? Also i remember a supermarket called Presto's?
  21. alvin stardust at the top rank on a Saturday, i think i was about 10
  22. Hi unfortunately we are still getting over a burglary a few weeks ago. Was only out of the house 2 hours and came back to find back door smashed in, alarm panel ripped off wall and jewellery, laptops and car stolen. We are still suffering the repurcussions and although the culprit has been caught the only people out of pocket is us and that is with insurance.(if they ever pay up).
