  1. La Dolce Vita at Crosspool does not have a licence so it is very much BYO all week. Went there on Saturday night for the first time and had a very pleasant meal. Corkage is only £2. I would class this is a good local "neighbourhood" restaurant (quite different to Artisan a few doors down) and provided you go anticipating a good standard of "home cooking" rather than "sophisticated" dishes with "foams" or "smears", then you won't be disappointed. Our bill for two 3-course meals, two coffees and corkage came to just over £48. Excellent value, we thought. Two qualifications - portions aren't huge (we don't view that as a criticism though I know some will); the room isn't big so I would say booking is pretty much essential.
  2. Hi, Our family fully endorse Tweedy's recommendation of Mr John Lucking at LWT Dental Care. I'd definitely make that my first port of call. There's also a "branch" at Hunters Bar - they definitely do NHS treatments, just don't know whether they're taking on new patients at the moment.
  3. Hi I think you've made a good choice. I used to live in the area just off Derbyshire Lane and thought it was great. I'm out of touch with property prices in the area now but if were you I'd be looking at the roads around Meersbrook Park. The park itself is a forgotten gem. The views from the top are just fantastic! As not a current resident, can't really comment on local conditions - one thing though to be aware of is that due to the age of the properties, very few have off-road parking. So look elsewhere if that's an issue for you.
  4. Hi Maaaaargaret I used to work for the people who are supposed to give you extra...Yes, of course you will "pay " eventually. Effectively what happens is the monthly payments you should have paid are added back onto your overall debt so you kind of end up paying interest on interest. Because of this, when you start repaying after the holiday your payments will go up slightly - unless you change the term. If you are struggling then lengthening the term MIGHT be another option but of course you will end up paying more over the whole mortgage term. I would say DO NOT do anything until you have spoken to BOTH your mortgage advisor AND the building society. This is a potential minefield. I don't know anything about the Yorkshire but I would urge you to speak to them and see what they suggest. Hope things work out OK
  5. Got a Whirlpool dish washer with a faulty door catch - rendering it useless! Obviously reluctant to replace it - does anyone have a recommendation for someone who might be able to fix this? Thanks
  6. Posting from my Edwardian, tree-lined street in S6 you will not be surprised that I reject the advice of avoiding S6 at all costs! Tosh!! All post codes have good and bad parts. Biotechpete is spot on and I would encourage you to home in on properties within easy walking distance of the Supertram route to Middlewood/ Malin Bridge. Incidentally, if you were keen on Stannington/Loxley there is a Park and Ride facility at the Malin Bridge tram terminus. Obviously home buying always involves compromise - I fear one of yours is going to be giving up off-street parking. I just think that is maybe unrealistic at your budget level. Good hunting.
