  1. St Pats is still there but I don't know if any nuns still teach. I left St Pats in '62 and then went to De La Salle. What year did you leave? Reading your posts you were probably there before me. Two of my cousins went to the convent school, Johnsons, does it ring a bell?
  2. I am sitting there right now as I do several days a week and my phone works perfectly well.
  3. Obviously lots of them will have mobile phones and guess what......they all work perfectly well without any more masts. These are being introduced because of the upgraded phones they want us to buy so they can justify the huge amounts they paid for licences.
  4. This is at the Woodseats Hotel every Sunday lunchtime/afternoon but not restricted to folk or jazz. Just bring along your guitar, plug in and play whatever you want. "It's All Too Beautiful"
  5. Anything between £15 and £26 a month. Depends on your job/circumstances/type of membership etc.
  6. Had a long chat with my guitar tutor about McLoskey's just a couple of days ago. Great memories of the Broadfield on Friday nights and Weston Park Sunday afternoons with Ray Higgins singing Wild Thing while eating a pint pot. This is a band that should have made it big time in the early seventies, wrote a lot of original material and were the only genuine prog rock band in Sheffield. I understand that Ray Higgins is now a builder, Dave Seville lectures in English at Chesterfield college and Mick Wilson is head of compositional studies at the University of Salford. Someone told me that they reformed a year or so ago for a few gigs, anyone know anything about this?
  7. The pool is available to members, my wife uses it several times a week.
  8. I used to live on Patmore Road, the steep cul de sac opposite the Wharncliffe. Now that was a scary ride, not being able to stop before skidding across Bevercotes and into the lock up garages. Scooters in summer. sledges in winter.
  9. Here are a couple of excuses I heard from US players during a post tournament interview. 1. "The rings over here are at a different height to back home. Ours are ten feet but in Europe it is three metres something." 2. "The ball didn't seem as round as the NBA balls." Honest, these are genuine.
  10. Good to see that at least one moderator is fair and open minded. Where do they find them?????
  11. Hi Duffman, been away for a couple of weeks so just caught up on your posts. I have committed to coaching a Junior Sharks team in the National League next season so very doubtful that I will have free midweek time to play Sheffield League. Would be pleased to help out with scrimmages/coaching whatever on occasional basis. Don't worry too much about spending loads on kit, most teams just have matching vests and that is it. Of course it is a technical foul to be on court in non matching kit but never seen it called in Sheffield League. Andy
  12. Nothing light-hearted that I can see. Even your sig is having a dig at Beckham. Re-read some of your posts, you are obsessed with the guy. You have a problem there, envy, resentment, who knows.
  13. Hey Markham, you really do have a problem don't you? Which perfect world do you live in? Most of us live in the real one where some people are more intelligent than others. Having a higher IQ doesn't make you any better than a person with a lower IQ. Andy
  14. Have to disagree with you there Ned Ludd. England looked in total control for most of the game. Obviously France had more possession but they could not do anything with it because England would not let them. That to me is control. Andy
  15. As Max says it is Bob Newhart. Most of his stuff has recently been released on CD. Any music store should be able to get it for you.
  16. What are you talking about???? Do you know anything about football???? England controlled the game throughout. France never looked like scoring even with all that possession they had. Until "carthorse" Heskey did his thing, that is. Anyone who knows anything about football knows we were by far the better and most threatening team.
  17. You miss the point. Only Sky pay the big fees. No Sky sensible fees.... It is called free enterprise.
  18. I didn't ... but the father of a schoolpal did. His name is Reynolds and lived at Sheffield Lane Top off Elm Lane. Always drove VW Beetles which were quite rare in early sixties. Isn't that where they made the dreaded shiny bog paper? Andy
  19. Cannot agree with this. Sky ( or more accurately their subscribers) are responsible for the loss of most major events to terrestrial TV. Stop payig the subscriptions and everything would be back on free TV through an ariel. Andy
  20. It would be interesting to know how old you are Trouncer because for anyone over forty five ish you are wrong. Elvis was far more influential and during a time when the media did not have such a big effect. As for Tom Parker pulling Elvis' strings, who do you think did the same for the Beatles??? They were only the third best band in Liverpool until Brian Epstein got hold of them and turned them into superstars.
  21. Aye aye... something else we can blame Thatcher for. Nearly got away without it being mentioned today. 'Cos it had nothing to do with the ruling Sheffield Council of the time who totally ignored budgets, likely income and common sense.
  22. You say 2 & 4 cylinders are not firing properly, are they fed by the same coil? Follow the HT leads back from plug heads to coils. If they go into same coil it is too much of a coincidence to be anything else. As I said before, swap the coils over and see if problem persists but this time on cylinders 1 & 3. If 2 & 4 are fed by different coils it could be the HT leads. Simplest solution is call out an auto electrician. If you have not sorted the problem after all this time it must be worth a few quid to get it fixed. Andy
  23. Sounds like a poor spark. May need coil replacing. Or the HT leads but these are often integral with the coil. You say you have earthed the plug and got a weak spark, well try earthing a plug from one of the "good" cylinders. Is it stronger? If yes then swap the coils round and see if the problem is now in the other two cylinders. If yes, you need replacement coil from breakers. Elimination is the only way to be sure. Andy
  24. Some merchant banker (yes .. really) has recorded a version of Come On Eileen with the words Come On England. What a W####R.... Andy
