Just because Hillsborough has (eg) a craft shop, doesn't mean it's good for craft shops.It means there is one mediocre craft shop. Ever heard of clustering? If there were more of a certain type of shop, it'd attract people who shop for craft supplies to the area, and drive up demand, and competition, and standards. And it'd bring business to the area. So, yeah. More independent shops, please.

The independent businesses died out when the chains took over. Now people are abandoning the chains, I think it's time to bring independent businesses back. I'd like to see a local bike shop (or a little branch of Planet X would be cool), another butchers, fishmonger, fruit and veg shop, flower shop, another craft shop, and a really great independent coffee and cake place. I'd also use an independent hardware shop and garden centre in preference to B&Q.

I'm a bit scared of joining a club in case they laugh at me and leave me behind. Are there any groups for slow, fat people?

I dunno. It makes me laugh that the local farms are all marketing themselves as expensive campsites though. Everywhere will be rammed. Maybe climb a tree in high bradfield and you'll see more than most.

I talked to some of the workers last night. They were really nice. They let me through the barrier to get home, and they apologised for the whole thing. They told me that the road has needed doing for years but they've been instructed to do it at lightning speed because of the Grand depart. They said the road is so badly damaged that they've had to take the whole thing up and start from scratch instead of just resurfacing it. They apologised for the night time noise and said it'll be over as soon as possible. I was going to complain to the council but the workers being so friendly and apologetic made me feel a bit warm and fluffy so I didn't complain. Very annoyed that we can't get out tonight to go for fish and chips though. Going to have to steal some of the kids' fish fingers from the freezer instead.
