  1. I am looking to have my hall and stairs (walls and ceiling) plastered/skimmed. Currently existing plaster board ceilings are beneath tongue and grooved cladding - which i would remove. I live in a 2 bed ex-council 1920's mid-terrace. Anyone able to give me a rough initial estimate on this job?
  2. I have some friends from back home in London visiting next weekend and wondered if there were any decent events happening on Sat 31st July? Not after club nights like download classics at Niche or the Four Fighters @ Boardwalk (only because I've seen them and am not a big fan) but something where there is live music or even ideally a pub with a comedy night or something like that. Also anywhere with a really good outside area where something might be going on would be brilliant. I'm sure there's not much outside of what i've said above if past experience is anything to go by but any suggestions would be much appreciated!!!! Thank you!
  3. I live in a 2-bed terraced house and share a chimeny stack with my neighbour. My side of the chimney stack needs the old lead removing and replacing with new. I also have a couple of holes on the top of the chimney stack that need blocking with mortar. The stack does not need repointing. I have received a quote for re-leading and filling the holes which I know is excessive due to testimonials regarding the same firm. Anyone able to give an idea what they think re-leading the chimney stack and filling a couple of holes on the top of the chimney stack on this type of property should cost?
  4. Just looking to see if there's anything going on round Sheffield this Sunday (20th May) during the day, particularly in the S8 area - but anywhere really. Anything from pubs to parks?? Thank you.
  5. I have some friends coming to Sheffield this Saturday, fancy just going to a pub or two around the City and maybe Kelham Island - does anyone know of any events going on? I'm not interested in town centre 'bars' with DJs etc...!!
  6. I have a border that is approx 15ft long and 2-3ft deep which is next to a mature privet hedge. The border is also in shade pretty much 100% of the time. There is literally nothing growing in it at the moment, not even a weed. Could anyone please advise me what I could plant in this border so there is some sort of coverage year round and ideally some flowers at times throughout the year? Also, I know the shade is an issue in regards to growth but is there a possibility the privet hedge is 'robbing' all the nutrients from the soil?? Any help will be much appreciated!
  7. My girlfriend and I are fairly new to the city and live in the Greenhill area. We are wanting to try out some new sports to keep fit and first up we're going to give badminton a try - we're both absolute beginners. Can anyone advise anywhere good for a couple of beginners to the game to hire a court and just have a knock-up by ourselves? If you can advise on hire costs as well that would be great.
  8. Can you help me answer this question - it's driving me mad!! Which English league team does not have to wear their change kit forcing their opponents on the day to change kit even if the opponent is the home team, and why?
  9. Sounds like what I'm after. Will give it a try.
  10. I'm after a proper no bells and whistles Indian restaurant. Not bothered about decor, wine lists or fancy cutlery just a proper good value Indian restaurant of the old school. Ideally somewhere I can get a 2 course meal for 2 plus poppadom and pickle tray and a couple of drinks for under £30 (even better a BYO wine place). Must be some out there in a city like this??
  11. I want to take my girlfriend out to eat on Saturday night- been a pretty rubbish start to the year and we're not too flush. So, wondering if anyone knows of any half decent restaurants we can go to on a Saturday night that has any decent current deals or just anywhere where a meal for two (starter & main), bottle of wine and probably bottle of water can be done for about £30 for 2 ??
  12. Thanks everyone - I gave the little one at the top of Abbey Lane ago. Spot on!
  13. In these credit crunch times I'm trying to find a cheap Gents hairdressers, preferably in the S8 area or City. I currently go to Scissors in Woodseats or Ye Olde Barbers Shoppe in Greenhil and pay about £8 for what is basically a short back and sides. Just wondering if anyone can reccommend anywhere cheaper, open on a Staurday morning?
