I was in the Pegasus house team. I left school in 1960 ---------- Post added 07-09-2013 at 15:17 ---------- I went to Rainbow Forge. I would have been 7 or 8 when I started there, so that would be 1952/1953. It was a lovely school back then.

Is Dougie 68? His name rings a bell and I think he may have been in my class at Carter Lodge. Oh I do remember. I'm just sorry my grandchildren can't experience the freedom we did.

Yes I do remember. Oh what happy days they were. I should have included the name O'Connor in with the Downend, Spotswood & Lunney families. Sorry Julie. I have a faint recollection of some of us being down in the 'woods' as we referred to the trees at the bottom of the slag heap. Julie's brother Kevin fell out of a tree and I think, broke his arm. Then again, my memory is not what it used to be.

When we married in 1967 we had to stay with my husbands parents for about 2 months. Our new build house wasn't finished in time for our wedding. It was a small builder who was building 12 pairs of semi detached houses. My husband to be, told the builder that we'd have to move in with him if the house wasn't finished by the time of our wedding. His reply was "That's ok but you'll get no peace at my house". I think it may have been preferable remembering back.

Back in the early 60's, I went out with a boy called Alan Day. He lived on Daffodil Road, as I recall, it was a house near the end.

I too remember the button factory. Couldn't walk past it without collecting bits of mother of pearl. Heaven knows though, what I did with them once I got them home. On the field opposite the factory, I remember there used to be some sort of fete/fair held every year. Such innocent happy times to be had as a child in those days.

You can, it's called saving every penny you can for 3 to 4 years. Not spending on going out/holidays etc.

Curiosity got me to looking if the builders were still in business. I thought, being as it was 45 years ago, probably not. Googled Barden & Hall, low and behold, they popped up in Google.

1966 - I was 21 & fiance was 22 when we reserved our plot at Loxley (new 3 bed semi yet to be built) price £3,200.00 deposit of £320.00. Our wedding was arranged for 12 months later. House wasn't finished in time (small building company) and we had to live with my new husband's parents for about a month.:eek: We finally moved in a week before Christmas. It was snowing heavily, but there was no-way I wasn't going to be in our home for Christmas. It was a long time ago. Still got the photos of the house at varying stages of build. I've often thought of sending them to whoever is in that house now.

I was a pupil at Carter Lodge in the 50’s. If such an activity as this ‘stoning’ had occurred then, the perpetrators would have been hauled into the headmaster’s office and given the cane. And rightly so. My husband went to High Storrs Grammar for boys. He tells me that if the pupils were caught not wearing their cap, (even on the bus on the way to school) they were in trouble.

I remember your family. I lived on Rainbow Avenue in one of the houses with the triangular ‘green’ in front of them. When I went back to Sheffield a few years ago, I just had to have a look at where I used to live. I was surprised to see the flat green was now a lumpy with trees on it. We girls from the Downend, Spotswood & Lunney families spent many happy hours doing handstands and cartwheels on that green. I should have included the name O'Connor (Julie) along with the Downend, Spotswood & Lunney families.

I used to take the payment for the paint & wallpaper etc they bought. This must have been before the 'fraud' as I left Gee's in 1964.

The 'fraud' didn't come to light until 1964. I'm talking about 1960 to 1963.
