  2. Art Tour Saturday 20 June 2.00-3.30pm Meet at Millennium Gallery Reception (Arundel Gate entrance) Sheffield based artist Paul Evans will be leading a tour of the city's contemporary art spaces this Saturday. Part of a series of regular tours organised by Sheffield Contemporary Art Form, each event has a different speaker as its ‘tour guide’, offering a personal insight into the work of local, national and international artists currently on display in the city. Meeting at the Millennium Gallery at 2pm, the tour will start with a visit to Berlin based artist Nicolas Moulin's exhibition 'Blanklumdermilq' at Site. It will then stop off at Yorkshire Artspace to catch a rare ‘behind the scenes’ glimpse of the award winning Persistence Works studio complex, as Paul will be inviting visitors to his studio to talk about his work. The tour will then move on to A42D, the drawing exhibition at BLOC, and then to Kim Coleman and Jenny Hogarth's show 'Glare' at S1. There will then be an optional extension that will take in the new exhibition of paintings by Francis Berthault at Cupola, Hillsborough. Paul is an active member of the local art scene and beyond. After winning the Eyestorm Gallery award for contemporary painting in 2007, his recent work has shifted between abstract and representational modes of expression and is based on 'a complex set of responses to the natural world'. His last major project, an installation in the x-church project space in Gainsborough, featured a life sized, 10m high drawing of a sperm whale which was presented with live poetry readings and song. Examples of his work can be viewed at http://www.origin09.org the Art Tour is free, no booking required, so just turn up!

Opening event at Sylvester Space happenstance Weds 17 June 6-9pm Every year the final year MA Contemporary Fine Art students at Sheffield Hallam University show their work at the end of their course in an exhibition open to the public. This year the show will present works from seven artists. The work on show is the culmination of a period of intense and focused investigation of critical theory and their individual art practices. The artists’ diversity is reflected in the show happenstance ‘a letting go, a hand’s off strategy, an embracing of chance and contingency allowing the unexpected and unplanned to surface.’ - http://www.artsheffield.org/listings/?p=1701%00 06.
