  1. Its worth having one of these plug in energy meters and keep checking the energy usage of fridges and freezers, as the compressor gets worn the energy usage can go up quite a lot, enough to justify the cost of a new one. It would tell you when the heater element is on or compressor is running by the current being drawn. Those with small evaporator and fan are killed by iceing up, i have known them when door left open ice so severely up and then heater although working not being able to defrost, had to leave to defrost for 24hours or like you manually defrost. but once defrosted ok until some nit left door open again. I had one (in damp cellar) where the defrost timer died, it was a geared motor type job (possibly electronic now) i temporary fitted a switch to manually defrost and ran the energy meter and found it was running 10 times as much energy as newer one upstairs so wasn't worth fixing, picked up a second hand freezer whose lower energy consumption paid for itself in one year.
  2. anybody else completely lost signal or do i have to go on the roof
  3. What were Claytons ice cream vans called? i remember seeing the "Ronksley's", "mr whippy" Manfredi vans name but i can't remember Claytons being called by their own name - at least written in big letters on the side of the van. I remember the guy who regularly came up our road (bit of a grumpy chap never smiled - dealing with screaming kids all day probably would make any body like that though), my dad knew the Claytons and asked him how his dad was doing so presumably hew was one of the Clayton family but i just can't see the name on the side of the van.
  4. i don't remember it but typing "Betsy Hammy" in google came up with; https://lesserknownwaifus.tumblr.com/post/169909855369/betsy-hammy-from-the-1982-shippams-top-of-the and is this it;
  5. I have my missus keep her key in a tin, i told her what it was so now she tells people she keeps her key in a Friday cage! bless Better safe and all that. Not making light of your situation, i have had more than £20000 of gear and van nicked which the police could have easily caught but preferred not to, i never recovered losing so much gear i had collected over many years and like quite a few of my mates gave up and would no longer work as a mobile tradesman. The odds are stacked too much against you. You non trades persons who think this thieving scum are just a bit cheeky and making a living, no real harm done - don't complain at your extortionate charges for some person coming to your home to to a job. They are often having to pay a second guy for security as well as massive insurance charges.
  6. Finally a decision has been made, not the best use of that particular piece of land sure but at least some investment in this very run down area. I suppose whilst ever we rely totally on development by the private sector we have to accept the best they offer. I thought i would resurrect this thread as for some reason it seems to be getting joined up with the lidl at malin bridge. To me they are very separate conversations each with their own debate with there own issues. Also you can never get tired of that video
  7. I like malware bytes but it will only deal with whats conventionally recognised as malware, some times what one person calls malware is another persons desirable program, or at least allowed advertising so there is a good chance it won't solve many of your problems. A nice bit of free software is cc cleaner https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/download run the cleaner and registry fixer and go to the "tools" then "startup", turn automatic startup off for everything you don't want to automatically start up (i turn everything off- easy to turn back on if missing it) also the same with "browser plugins" . Also i use sADBLOCK with the crome browser to reduce the crapvertising we are constantly bombarded with (drop the first lowercase "s" i had to but it in as the forum blocks the real name) The way of the modern world is its a constant battle to keep a pc in good working order, microsoft being bad enough and part of the problem.
  8. I have used https://www.fixmystreet.com/ about 6 years ago after getting no luck with direct report to council site, afterwards i got an email from council saying i didn't need to report it via them and should report it directly to the council site, the repair seemed to get sorted then. I felt the "showing the dirty washing in public" - high lighting it publicly more seemed to help the motivation. Worth a try .
  9. search for mythbusters on this one, they tried many attempts to ignite a petroleum vapour atmosphere with mobile phones with no success, however they did get an ignition from some nylon clothing . However when it comes to health and safety most organisations don't let facts get in the way of rules. i can now see all customers being asked to remove any synthetic clothing before filling with petrol
  10. https://ukfree.tv/transmitters/analogueradio/Skew_Hill Originally I.B.A. Now that everything has been given over to private companies i don't know who operates them, Arqiva operate most but I haven't seen any thing where they admit to this one.
  11. Credit card, i don't know if there is any protection with it might have to look into it, used paypal before to sort out dispute they are very good and definitely my preferred way of paying online. You don't expect to have to fight and take action against companies like Aldi for failure to supply purchased goods, the biggest issue has to be the fact you are just being ignored and if it is Hermes fault it is still down to Aldi to use a decent delivery company.
  12. I've been waiting for a delivery from Aldi who are using Hermes for 18 days when Aldi said 3 to 7 days. I keep looking on the Hermes tracking site twice now it said it was out for delivery I waited in all day but no delivery came sooo annoying 😒 . I keep sending emails to aldi, got a reply to the first one 7 days later otherwise its just automated replys. 😩 I have been asking for my money back but just no reply. I am not waiting in again stuff 'em Extremely rubbish service, communication is diabolical and the Hermes tracking is the biggest joke. I think i need to report it to some consumer watch dog if such thing exists
  13. There is a big kingfisher place just a bit further down river.
  14. I threw some away myself years ago, i doubt they will be much support as its all available up to date for free on the internet: https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/2562194. along with other resources. You may have to register.
  15. Is it for grass outside? these would offer some protection and still allow water through, depends on how heavy the plant is i suppose. https://www.toolstation.com/grass-protector-mat/p23709
  16. Is this it perhaps; https://planningapps.sheffield.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=PV3OJ5NYGCK00
  17. The"poor residents" welcome this rat infested dog poo riddled fly dump waste of space being developed - at least cleaned up. The obvious to even the most thick of us is to clear all the brush (upset a few pretend ecologist), evict roland the coypu and family, cover over the old goyt, and make a nice car park co funded by SWFC - a take it or shut down the ground offer ( would need some local administration - elected or being paid to turn up and can't be sacked for doing nothing - with some ability in the field they are getting paid for which we are definitely not seeing at the moment), and make a park and ride and football parking as and when. And that's from someone who would love to see the ground go but with a "live and let live- if logical" reasoning. When or if, we we ever get any administration of this country with any competence and the old victoria line is opened as a light railway the car park would be ideally positioned for the electric cars to be parked and recharged whilst the occupants stroll up to the new station at wadsley bridge and catch a nice electrically propelled air conditioned train in excellent comfort to wherever, no further deforestation required but a new cycle path perhaps. Now look what you have done you've set me off again...... Whilst still unclear what the notices are supposed to be telling us which we really wanted to know, and sending us in a mad endless loop to oblivion, there has now been a notice on the planning portal that the decision has been deferred yet again to the 29th november,- G.B. administration at its best not quite upto brexit incompetence but getting there. .😣. .😥. .😣.
  18. It's only old technology (the current bbc digital text is 20 years old now the old ceefax analoge service died years ago) because it is streamed rather than on demand, if a streamed service is adequate as this is then why does it have to be on demand. It might not get a lot of use now but there is a massive amount of customers that have access to it should other systems fail. Look how often websites "go down " when over patronised, everybody in the country could be reading the same teletext page at the same time. With an income of 5 billion pound, running a data service that the cost of will be a drop in the ocean i would think it is less about it's cost and more about overpaid administration wanting to get rid of things that they don't like. To me it's still worth keeping.
  19. Sorry linking not going well, I too a daft poster it seems. Try this open pdf doc 18/9/2019 https://planningapps.sheffield.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=PKYV3ONYMDJ00 The phrase "The development does not accord with the provisions of the development plan" is the only bit that seems to be making a statement what ever that is, otherwise it tells you to go to the planning portal page above where you click the link which shows you the picture that tells you to go to the planning portal page above where you click the link which shows...... I seem to be stuck in an endless loop and now need a reboating. What is the purpose of this notice???
  20. Any body know what these signs are supposed to be telling us: https://planningapps.sheffield.gov.uk/online-applications/files/CEFB6AD7E0B6DF17CF62CFE47B87EB40/pdf/19_00037_FUL-ADDITIONAL_SITE_NOTICES-1398439.pdf The planning app is way past its end date but yet no decision has been divulged, we just now have these daft posters.( the ones on the lampost not me- i am often considered daft but the ones on the lampost is what i mean)
  21. Do you not still marry in the brides parish church? Also it would have to be the appropriate denomination presumably.
  22. Just seen 3 cars and a van full of em on penistone road holding up the traffic, must have been at least 15 policeman how many points do i get for that. interested if any body has phoned to report a crime 11:30-12:00 today and being told there was no officers available, these probably had more important things to do than catch burglars.
  23. I,m gutted, just paid 40p for two return train tickets to brid now i find i've wasted 40p ..😓.. ..😢.. ..😠.. arghhh, i won't be sleeping for quite a few nights now.
  24. did the cafe have a clock than went anticlockwise it that isn't a some kind of paradox.
  25. Sorry but I struggle to understand that statement, you are saying syp have placed an order on SWFC to close leppings lane to other vehicle traffic whilst derby matches are on because they (swfc or syp?) are being heavy handed with fans? If its syp then surely a stream of vehicles (especially a few hgv's ) would be beneficial if there was fans without tickets amassing on leppings lane after kick off , a good time for a spot of unseasonal snow ploughing perhaps. Surely SWFC cannot shut leppings lane it takes authorisation from the local council, obviously the sensitive nature of football hooliganism gives the police special powers but it is not an emergency action but a pre planned council authorised action - if not it would be illegal.? I would genuinely love to know the true facts of the reasoning for the closure throughout the match. I have to say you don't see police officers on the lepping lane closures just yellow jacketed guys that, well stop more women going home with there shopping than groups of males whom look some what intimidating (don't blame them to be honest, they won't be getting paid enough to be receiving a bit of abh), perhaps the ground has been granted controlling powers over Leppings lane, not informed locals but that's nothing new.
