  1. Worked with Dave at Hallam and he was a genuinely lovely man. Terribly sad to hear this news. A real shame. RIP.
  2. It's not bad. Have a look at the videos on our youtube page. Atlantis, Dubai Mall, the Dubai Fountain, and plenty of other stuff. Right now it's 30ยบ at night. Getting a bit cooler.
  3. Yeah, we had that on the show last week. I'll be scared stiff in the lift, let alone up there.
  4. Mrs B - I do a radio show here. Was on Hallam FM for a bit. No tours yet of the Burj yet. Doesn't open until December. Rumour has it U2 are doing the opening. That'd be some gig. They've just opened the Dubai Metro. We made a video. You get a better view of the Burj on here...
  5. Here's the full-sized picture... http://twitpic.com/j24f8/full
  6. Aye... You should see 'em cleaning the windows!
  7. I'm a Sheffielder, now living and working in Dubai. I thought I'd have a crack at putting the Burj Dubai (tallest building in the world) at the bottom of the Moor. This photo is taken from Meersbrook Park. You can click on the "full size" button to see it bigger. I worked out the height measurements and scale from the dimensions of the Manpower Building (DFES) at the bottom of the Moor. http://twitpic.com/j24f8/ Let me know what you think.
  8. So I log in and see replies and I think "brilliant"! V.Disappointed (with a smile though)
  9. Thanks mate. I passed on the details. If anyone else has any info on these people. please let me know. Much appreciated.
  10. This is going to sound a bit silly, but I have a radio show in Dubai and one of my listeners works for the British Embassy out here. Her name is Christine Searle. She regularly texts in to the show and I met her face-to-face whilst sorting out the papers for my wedding. I make no secret of being from Sheffield on the show (it keeps me in free Hendersons). Hearing this, Christine has sent me an email asking if I could help her track someone down. Here's what she said... "My best mate, Jill Sidebottom, who started nurse training with me in the 1960's went and fell in love with a bloke from Castleton, called Roger Townsend. In those days you had to leave nursing if you got married before you qualified. Anyway, Roger was more important so they wed and went to live in Sheffield... Blair-Atholl Road, it was. Now their son Ben would be about your age [mid-30s], and I know Sheffield's a big place, but if there's any way of getting in touch with her again, I'd be over the moon. I've tried 'friend's reunited' and even made a trip to Castleton, to try to locate them, but all without success." Christine is a great girl and I'd really like to help her out, so if anyone has any information on these people, please drop me a line or post something on here. It'd make a great (cheap) xmas present for Christine. Thanks.
  11. My friend and I used to call ourselves R.Spandit & Peter Phile. We'd try to leave before the results most nights.
  12. I work in Dubai at a radio station. It's boiling here. Back in Sheffield on 21st Dec though. Can't wait for Yorkshire Puddings.
  13. My Grandparents lived at 121 Wulfric Road just on the opposite side of the roundabout to the Manor Hotel. They lived there from at least the 50s until the houses were demolished. They were called Arthur and Molly Barrow and had kids called Stella, Jean, Jackie (my Mom) and Martin. I spent the majority of my weekends there in the 70s and 80s.
  14. I was just having a 'Sheffield moment'. My parents are still there and I will be coming home at Christmas for some Yorkshire puddings and plenty of Hendo's sauce. I don't know why but I stumbled across High Hazels Park on Google Earth and realised, with much sadness, that the boating lake has gone. Gutted! Still, might take a drive up there when I'm over. haven't been in there for donkey's years. Bonfire nights were always good. Anyway, looking at that stuff made me remember this site, so I thought I'd have a look on here and I've just been reading this forum. My memories of Redgates are very cloudy now, but I do remember it being the best shop in the world, ever. It was always a treat going in there, even when you can away with nowt. Am I right in thinking the bikes were on the top floor? This is circa late 70s Hamleys wasn't a patch, but I always thought Beatties was alright.
