  1. Shaun's class is unfotunately no longer running. Shaun is the GB wrestling team manager and an international level coach. As well as working full time he travels all over the world with the GB team so the commitments just became too much for him. He may well be coming back to do the odd seminar in which case I'll let you know. I train at the Wicker and the Forge, the Wicker is busy but Mick gets around everyone in the class and for those who he teaches he is always willing to give some help. The Forge is a Gracie Barra club and is ran along the lines of a traditional BJJ club with a heavy emphasis on gi grappling though we do have one no gi session a week. The thing about both the Forge and the Wicker is that you'll have to swallow your pride and start from the bottom. Beginner classes, body only sparring, positional sparring. It takes time but it's worth it in the end. The best MMA fighter I know is Sam Boult, he trains his Thai at the wicker, his BJJ at the Forge and then trains at Shoot to bring it all together. He started from scratch a little over 3 years ago but is now strong at every range. btw Sheffield Shoot train at the 393 club on Tuesdays and Fridays 730 - 900
  2. Dammit Cole you beat me to it Leave it out now it was funny but its now taking the shine off what was by all accounts a good show
  3. Come on Billy Guy was a regular student of yours, what goes on the mat SHOULD stay on the mat. You say you have a lot of respect for John and then have a go at one of his students...That's out of order You don't specifically say what the problem is either, are you saying you don't agree with the decision or just that you want everyone to know how well your fighter did even though he lost the decision:huh: Either way thumbs up for sticking up for your guy (I didn't see the fight so have no opinion on who won) but if you want a lesson in how to do that without being disprespectful or sounding like a bad loser have a look at this: http://www.wickercamp.co.uk/2009/06/ Russ PS Am referring to Mick's comments on the Mehdi vs Ollie Watson fight on the linked website.
  4. Thanks everyone, though having a pruple belt doesn't change that much, I'll still get battered by Jon, Paul C, Ryan, Steve and Rob S, I'll still have a heart attack trying to keep up with Paul L and I still won't be able to sweep Noel. Just a couple of mentions Paul L actually got 3 stripes on his blue and Paul C didn't attend as he was busy getting a silver at Grapllemania in Leeds so well done Bjjman. Also I'll say sorry for calling Greg a rude word when his over enthusiastic whipping action caused his belt to hit my cauliflower ear. It was the pain talking not me (though you are a dozy g*t, how the hell could you hit my head and miss my body?) Anyway cheers everyone
  5. You sure you're a teacher and not a dodgy car salesman:hihi:
  6. That's really good "Fitty" nice one. It's amazing I never realised I was ugly until now, the photos really hit it home. I'm going to have a cry now......
  7. Thanks, are the website details up to date do you know? Would still be interested in hearing from people who train there (or elsewhere) as to what it's like.
  8. Alright I know this has been done before but I am too lazy to go scouring through old threads as I only have a few spare minutes. I really want to start Judo but am struggling with fitting it in. Can ANYONE who trains at a judo club please post the up to date times and location. I know about the Uni club and would love to train there but it clashes with other commitments same thing for the Rotherham Tigers club. I am willing to travel a bit if the day and time fit. Particularly interested to hear about the club in Grimesthorpe. I'd be really grateful to all those who posted a reply. Thanks
  9. Wow! who resurrected this thread, it was rubbish the first time, who'd come back for more.
  10. Whoa there precious keep your hair on!! So you got the statistics from a fight metrics website which is a perfectly normal thing to do and not sad in any way. Personally Statto I prefer to watch the fight a few times and come up with my own opinion and that still is that as much as I wanted Shogun to win I thought that by the judging sytsem of the UFC Machida edged it but Shogun completely dominated the last 2 rounds (which may be why the statistics you have favour Shogun). What I'll agree with is that Shogun SHOULD have won the fight, i.e. he had enough gas and power to convincingly take Machidas title and even stop him but he backed off because he thought he'd already won. Also note from my first post I didn't say "Machida won", I said "I'm not sure" which as I am not an MMA judge is like me, you know, giving an opinion? I'll take your advice though as from your "fight metrics" data I assume that either you are way too fond of Shogun or just a know all (or both) and that disagreements will not be tolerated so I'll find another thread.
  11. My conclusion? That you have too much time on your hands. You actually counted the strikes? SAD i gave my honest opinion having watched the fight but do us a favour count the strikes per round for me so i can really be sure who won My Point about Dana white i stand by the ufc are all about the match ups rather than the long term prospects of the fighter. Shogun was coming back from a serious injury prior to fighting griffin who until Anderson destroyed him was considered a top fighter.
