  1. If the roof is buckled, and the damage is 3/5 of the cars value, then I would be almost certain it will be written off. Replacing other panels is relatively easy compared to re-shaping a roof. You cant just bolt on a new one like doors, wings, bonnet etc.

  4. Dentists can, and do remove patients from their register even if they do pay for treatment and cancelled appointments. It is normally something like a £5 fee for missed appointments, which would be outweighed by treating another patient for a standard polish at about £16. Hence why even if you miss your appointments and pay for treatment, you could still find yourself removed. Having read a few of your previous posts Donkey, you seem to be quite lacking on intelect, but remarkably high on opinion. A great combination for making yourself look a bit of a fool, regularly.
  5. As they are quite often private businesses, there is little you can do as it is their choice to accept "customers" or not. They are pottentially oversubscribed (I know mine was as they started pushing the checkups from 6 months to 9 months), whereas there will be some dentists that will probably be accepting new NHS patients. Id advise ringing round the other local dentists and asking if they are taking on new NHS patients, you may be surprised.

  7. But it will make for some great photos to share with said child when they are old enough to appreciate it. My mum used to bake mine, and we have pictures of them all through the years with various things from Thomas the tank engine to football pitches. Although I cant remember them, looking at the photos, even now in my thirties and seeing the smiles on my parents faces as Im blowing out the candles on my birthday cakes makes me smile. One day my parents wont be here, and its photos like those which will make me smile.. I see now, the likes of Tesco can print a photo on a cake! Im sure other bakers can do this sort of thing too - so if you arent overly confident with an icing gun, and dont want to pay for some fancy off the shelf decoration, perhaps the picture on a cake option would be something to consider? Hope that helps.

Ill be back around April time I do like the Q5 I have to say, the way that the seats fold completely flat with the boot floor is a particularly nice aspect from my point of view - I find it strange that with the VW 4x4's of the same platform as the Q7 and Q5, that the seat folding is a lot more cumbersome. I have to confess to getting the specs of the R8 up online and having the tape measure up against the garage door opening at one point over the weekend If you still have one available in April (which is more than likely given the number popping up on Autotrader and Pistonheads etc) then you'll catch me hanging my nose over it again! On the menu pricing, I will do some research prior to purchase but I have to say Im not a great fan. As someone who is fairly technicaly minded, it just annoys me when I see one car charged 5-10% more for the same service on the same engine just because that engine happens to be in a larger platform/chassis. Though I guess these are always up for negotiation at the time of purhase/service anyway.. Thanks for your input, and hopefully things will not be too bad in the car market during this slow down.
  10. VW1953, Would you be able to answer my specific question about Gilders? It may have got lost amongst the other issues and debate raised in the thread.. Do Gilders Audi, and or VW use any sort of "menu" pricing system for services, similar to those I have experienced from dealers of other marques. I.e An A4 2.0 TDi first service is X, and an A3 2.0 TDi first service is Y etc.. I ask as I had two vehicles charged different rates for a service (not at gilders I may add) even though they had the exact same engine, and the service consisted of an oil change and sump plug. Same oil, same plug, same everything, but as one was a car with a larger body and initial price tag, it had a more expensive service. On another note, I see that Gilders have stuck an aproved used R8 in the corner of the car park, I spotted it today as I came back from Leeds. Having just visited the Aston garage in Leeds and seen the handy work of some local missing link and his screwdriver on the rear of a Vantage where the badge went, It made me wonder if sticking the R8 a distance away from the showroom was a wise move? I hope your R8 doesnt get the same treatment by an idiot
  11. ahh yes - now why didnt we think of that. Every Tesco, Sainsburys and Asda should be made to remove their car parks and replace them with fields to grow their own crops. We could also ask them to build little factories round the back so that each can have its own little clothes manufacturing section and of course we will need the area to keep the sheep for the wool production, as we need to get the wool to the clothes factory round the back. As for the elctrical goods, we will have to ensure there is an electrical manufacturer on site at each of the stores too. and someone to make the components, afterall we wouldnt want those being transported. Hows about the buses that you use Green God - do you think that they were built in the town that they service, or were they driven there? Perhaps they were pushed up the motorway by a group of small children on their way to the clothes factory round the back of the supermarket? You may have an education in business, but it seems all that has acheived is pushing out all the useful stuff like common sense along the way. On a side note regareding your obvious hatred for heavy goods vehicles, you know the aid appeals for starving children in Africas failed crops regions, and those for example that were left destitute by the tsunami (no doubt in your world these incidents were caused by man made global warming) - how exactly would you suggest we help these people? We could surely never fly the aid in, think of the CO2 from a plane, and certainly not the trucks either, they are even worse - would you suggest next time we just all pile it up in our back gardens and advise the destitue folk around the world to come and collect the "aid" on foot?

Yes the clutch is a concern, though it should not be a frequent expense as the car would probably only be doing 4-5k per annum, which if driven hard would be one clutch per year, though specialists other than the main dealer can do these for £3-4k according to quotes a friend of mine whom owned one. The depreciation on the top end is phenomenal. If there are any owners out there who bought these new and they were not just expensive play things for the super rich, they must be crying into their cornflakes at the moment. Mind you, its not just the very top end "hyper" cars. A 2 year old BMW M6 with half the average mileage can be seen to have dropped almost 50 grand. It is truly shocking. I feel for the second hand dealers who must have had a sizeable chunk of their assett sheets wiped overnight. Not a pleasant time at all. With regard to the servicing at Gilders, do they use the "menu pricing" system that other dealers user i.e. one model of car costs X for a service, another model costs Y etc etc? I had a blazing row with Seat over this as they charged me £20 more for a service (which consisted of oil, sump plug and labour) on one model, than they did another. Yet both cars had exactly the same engine, just different bodies (one coupe one full size). They advised that this was how the manufacturer priced, regardless that both vehicles had been given the exact same service, on the exact same engine, using the exact same consumables and parts. They clearly set these prices assuming nobody has the first clue about whats under the bonnet. After reporting the matter to the manufacturer, they reluctantly agreed to refund the difference. i.e. Are the servicing costs the same for the A4 1.8TFSI and the A3 1.8TFSI. If not, why not?
  13. What indeed has my registered name here got to do with anything, it was a spur of the moment creation when signing up to reply on another topic. Your comments have little contributory value to this thread, and I would perhaps suggest you scurry back under whatever little rock you emerged from beneath. For the record, one of the vehicles I took a particular interest in was the R8, though I would never purchase one new with the current depreciation on the vehicle, I would have liked to see their approved second hand stock list of that particular car, something that the Aston Martin garage in Derby and the Bentley/Lamborghini garage in Birmingham happily supplied me with after first enquiring if there was "anything they could help me with".
  14. Indeed, but there is a vast difference between being non intrusive and totally ignorant. I must have been there a good 20 minutes, looking at 3 different vehicles that I have three specific requirements/wants for before leaving, and nobody even asked if I wanted any help.
  15. Whilst the new Audi/VW garage at Sheffield is quite nice, unless the sales staff take more of an interest in prospective customers, then I cant forsee them doing all that well. I popped in last week, possibly two weeks ago now, cant remember - specifically to look at three models of car (for three different uses/reasons). Not a single member of sales staff asked myself or my wife if we wanted any help, or if we had any questions regarding any of the cars. Not a single one. If thats how hard they try to win business, Im glad they arent salesmen for my company. It would appear that the shiny new showroom has come with a shiny new attitude of "the cars wil sell themselves" too. Although on the plus side, the parking is much better than the previous arrangement for both VW and Audi in Chesterfield. I can park up easily and see more of the range (surprised to see no Q7 though). Its just a shame they didn't seem that bothered about selling me any.
