Skegness created a Business Investment District (BID). Businesses within this district have to pay an annual levy based upon their business rateable value. Range goes from "exempt" for the very small, up to £7,500 p.a. for the largest. These funds finance events such as the music weekends. The BID is currently up for renewal and requires a majority vote from the member businesses. It is not a given that it will continue. Some (but not all) businesses perceive no benefit and have not seen increased takings. Some believe that there have been no increase in trade, rather a moving around of the same visitors.
