  1. These "footings" are roughly 80/100 cm square and paving has been removed to accommodate them. The alignment has been altered to avoid loading on top of the drains. In fact the drains will be accessed to serve these facilities.
  2. Wow ... I'd never have known! SF always at the forefront of news. 👍
  3. https://www.sheffieldbid.com/what-we-do They seem to claim credit for The Fringe (amongst much more).
  4. Skegness BID: Businesses with rateable value over £7,500 Levy is 1.5% of RV Budget of approximately £3m over 5 years Sheffield BID: Businesses with rateable value over £40,000 Levy is 1% of RV Budget of approximately £4m over 5 years
  5. Unless it definitely needs to be removed, poison and sealing their entry point (s) is going to be much cheaper.
  6. Have never heard of creative accounting?
  7. First Bus contributed 18% of First Group's profit last year. 5.7% operational margin whilst being on target for 10% in the coming years. Their own reports belie what local managers may tell local drivers.
  8. Without arguing for neither Brexit nor Remain, I would just like to point out that the ending of free movement has only brought forward an increase of production/harvesting costs that were always inevitable, although somewhat further down the line. The use of cheap labour would always have come to an end as the poorer economies eventually approached middle-class standards.
  9. Don't give up, Anna. Peel Holdings know exactly how to make money. Do deals with councils, quangos and government that revolve around dubious transformation, creative accounting and acquisition of dirt cheap real estate for housing and business parks. Laughing all the way to the bank.
  10. Are they they ones that asked for the heating to be on, last week?
  11. Skegness created a Business Investment District (BID). Businesses within this district have to pay an annual levy based upon their business rateable value. Range goes from "exempt" for the very small, up to £7,500 p.a. for the largest. These funds finance events such as the music weekends. The BID is currently up for renewal and requires a majority vote from the member businesses. It is not a given that it will continue. Some (but not all) businesses perceive no benefit and have not seen increased takings. Some believe that there have been no increase in trade, rather a moving around of the same visitors. Others think it is great and has produced extra income. As an irregular visitor that went especially for a music weekend, I disagree and would be sorry to see it end.
  12. I thought that I would try. It took me to Justin copying and pasting the same post content onto Tripadvisor. Got to admire consistency.
  13. I guess that it was probably some newspaper or show extrapolating from the British Psychological Society campaign: BPS launches new campaign to make social class a protected characteristic - The British Psychological Society
  14. Why don't folk delve a little deeper before posting coswallop? "Christie’s said the proceeds of the sale would go to the Thomas and Doris Ammann Foundation, based in Zurich, which works to establish healthcare and education programmes for children around the world."
  15. Unless I am mistaken, the NI Assembly can choose whether to consent its continuation, or not, every four years. "The Protocol on Ireland and Northern Ireland provides for a new mechanism on “consent”, which gives the Northern Ireland Assembly a decisive voice on the long-term application of relevant EU law made applicable by the Protocol in respect of Northern Ireland. This consent mechanism concerns the application of EU law on goods and customs, the Single Electricity Market, VAT and State aid, as currently foreseen by the Protocol. In practice, this means that four years after the start of application of the Protocol on 1 January 2021, the Assembly can, by simple majority, give consent to the continued application of relevant Union law, or vote to discontinue its application. In the latter case, the Protocol would cease to apply two years later." Protocol on Ireland and Northern Ireland | European Commission (europa.eu)
  16. Unless you are a Conservative Party member it has nothing to do with us. If you don't agree with their decision, join everyone and vote them out at the next General Election. Perversely, it is in the interests of the Labour Party that the Tories elect the most incompetent for a leader.
  17. Cities need a town clerk. They should (but rarely do now) make decisions over major issues for the benefit of the city. She will get paid her pittance and add nothing whatsoever to the management/benefit of the city.
  18. They have been "off" since privatisation.
  19. I found last night oppressive and had a few cool showers ... but other than that it was just a hot few days.
  20. I used to work that frequently took me overseas. When SZD opened and was serviced by KLM it was fantastic for me. Less than an hour between home and check-in. Sadly I eventually checked in on a return flight, on the other side of the world to come home and my baggage label said MAN. They had no idea what was going on. Only back in Manchester did I find out that KLM had stopped flying in/out of Sheffield. So. Yes I miss it. Financial loss? How can you prove a negative. Obviously, if SZD had continued, the city would have benefited. All the nonsense about runway length is cobblers. Peel Holdings had a financial advantage and ensured that the airport accounts showed a loss.
  21. Sometimes the fans come on and, because of the external temperature, they feel like heaters.
  22. Most of these fires are the result of idiots choosing not to follow basic forest management techniques.
