  1. This is a statement posted last month on the Facebook page of John Crawshaw Butchers. The one that's closing is NOT the Stocksbridge/Fox Valley business

GOOD AFTERNOON EVERYONE, JUST SOME NEWS THAT IS GOING AROUND ABOUT A COMPANY GOING INTO ADMINISTRATION THAT SHARES A SIMILAR NAME TO US, WE WOULD JUST LIKE TO LET PEOPLE KNOW THIS IS NOTHING TO DO WITH US AND WE ARE NOT GOING INTO ADMINISTRATION.

IF YOU COULD ALL SHARE THIS WITH YOUR FRIENDS EITHER VIA FACEBOOK OR IN CONVERSATION THAT WOULD BE GREAT!

THANK YOU & THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT!

  2. Another bite into England's ancient woodland. The Woodland Trust and other groups have objected strongly to this development. Begin to imagine our land without the oak, beech and chestnut trees, bluebells and wildlife. Would it really be a better place with fast food outlets and lines of cars instead? This development, as well as destroying our natural environment, is lining some businessman's pocket at the expense of out heritage.

  3. Sheffield City Centre is in serious decline. If John Lewis ever closed we might as well shut up shop completely. I went down the Moor today and I was appalled. Poor quality shops with very little choice. Even the shops which should be ok were not:

Debenhams lacked appeal, Atkinsons was dull and didn't have the range of goods. Empty shops all round and in the Market, there seemed to be more stalls empty than open. Sheffield is dirty, run down in need of major investment. With two first class universities I would have thought we could do better. Sheffield should be thriving but it's not! What has gone wrong?

  4. Hi

I was interested in this thread because I used to catch the 0711 service 4 from Banner Cross every morning which has now been taken off. There was a group of regulars on this bus mostly going to Sheffield Railway Station. The reliabilty of the service was always variable and you waited on tenter hooks until it came! But we stuck with it! However, if a service is unreliable, clearly people will look for other options if possible. A friend who also used to catch the 0711 from Banner Cross to Sheffield Station for the 0745 train to Manchester became so anxious about the service that she bought an apartment near the station!

Now, there's no bus at all to get to the station for the early morning trains or to the bus station without a considerable walk which I can't do! So I bought a car! And now it is unlikely I would go back to the bus because of the expense of the car. And I always used to carry the flag for public transport and support the protection of the environment. I felt very disappointed and let down by the decision to withdraw the service. I did write to First Mainline and give my comments but I never received a reply.
