  1. Just how many police officers do you think there are? You'd be majorly shocked. When officers stop attending all but the most serious of incidents, they'll get an idea. Hence Lincolnshire Police talking about being close to going "bankrupt" Don't bother to reply. This is the first time I've logged on in about 18 months so probably won't read it.
  2. I don't come on here anymore, either. I've only returned to say how very sad I am to hear about John passing away. Steve, loads of love to you, it's so nice to see you again, just wish it was different circumstances. Your dad will be missed. I have some amazing memories of those days. I hope you're doing ok. Please pass on my love to John. I'm thinking about him. RIP RedRobbo. I'll flash you one last time!
  3. Red. I rarely come on here now, but when I do, I like to see how you're doing. I'm *so* glad you're doing well and going to enjoy some 'you' time with NBJ in retirement. Enjoy the northern lights! We saw them in Finland last year, they were ace. You have to be patient and stay up all night, though!! You're going just at the optimum time. Keep your eye on the space weather on the run up to your trip. Lots of love to you both. xxx
  4. I know I'm early, but I feel confident I'll make it to my * 6 year * anniversary next Tuesday. Hello Draggletail.....!
  5. A few years down the line, and it's now my favourite film....! Sorry, can you tell I'm remininsing over old threads from years ago?
  6. Aw bless you! Hope you're well. And wish I could get over! xx
  7. "Balls! We want the finest wines available to humanity. And we want them here, and we want them now!" Withnail & I
  8. Thanks everyone, and well done to those that have stopped. Draggle, I always look forward to our once a year chats on here..... Bethsmummy, the book almost comes across as patronising sometimes, but it's great, I can't recommend it enough, just encourage your other half to stick with it, even if he's not enjoying the style.
  9. Not sure I feel the need to tell you how much my insurance has gone up by, but do you really think I'd expect them to pay out if I'd not declared them? What a ridiculous statement! Believe it or not, I'm aware of lead thefts. Our garden is as secure as it can be, and it would be very difficult to get on the roof without being seen or heard. Have you any statistics on the amount of solar panel thefts there've been up to now? Because it's not something I'm panicking about at the moment. Thanks for your concern though.
  10. Yeah, and I said we'd have to agree to disagree on the ethics. I wouldn't plug anything into my neighbours electricity without asking, because - ultimately - it wouldn't be legal.
  11. Not really, one is legal (and encouraged by the government), the other isn't. I think we'll have to agree to disagree on the ethics I'm afraid. I have my own thoughts on why you object so strongly.
  12. Whilst you continue taking from the national grid with your sizable carbon footprint. Re second paragraph - no problem. Not really important to be honest.
  13. Could you elaborate further please?
  14. Yup, and the reason the energy companies raise the cost to people without green energy is as a further incentive for more people to obtain it. For the good of the environment. Very ethical in some respects, but then, that's just our differing viewpoints, isn't it. And when you said that it wasn't viable, I'm sure you can see where I made the mistake in understanding you. It sounded like you were doubting the finacial viability of the panels. Which, obviously, are very much so.
  15. Sorry for the late reply - don't come on here as often as I used to...! All I wanted to say is - fair enough. I understand what you're saying. However, I do think it shouldn't be *too* big a job to keep people informed though - and for people to see that not all people can sit in a hard chair for that length of time. My mum certainly couldn't.
  16. The company you choose should first check that your roof can hold the weight - but you also need to take out insurance. There will be parts that need replacing over time, but when you consider the amount you're earning, it's worth the maintenence. With regard to selling, if you had the choice of two identical houses, one that was going to cut your electricity bills & (by being on a higher FIT payment that is no longer available) would pay out £1000 per year, and one that doesn't - which would you choose? I appreciate this isn't the same for the ones that are fitted free - you are essentially then just renting out your roof to someone else for 25 years - that may or may not be attractive to someone buying. I personally think that it's the companies fitting the systems free that have spoilt it. They're the ones with enough money to reap the benefits of a generous government incentive that was offered to individuals in order they go "green". People can (and no doubt will) question the motives of individuals having them, but if it's means people taking less energy from the national grid, it doesn't really matter. Oh, and as for them looking outdated in a few years, I'm not sure I'll care too much - the benefits far outweigh the negatives.
  17. Oooh just answered that in my next rant.
  18. £9,000 to fit and - in *addition* to the free electricity (and subsequent lowering of bills) - 43p per unit generated, amounting to around £1000-£1500 per year. It was definitely viable. Maybe not so much now, but before, I assure you.
