  1. swarfendor43 Sorry, I've only just seen your posts! I *think* I've tried all the things you've said, but I'll go through them all again in a methodical order when I get home. Thanks so much for giving me your time. The only thing I'm certain I haven't done is rolling back, and I only didn't do this cos I'd already uninstalled/reinstalled new drivers. But in answer to one of the things you wrote, when I click on "test" it says something to the effect of "cannot play test". Thanks again, I will update tomorrow afternoon (when I get up from this horrible "afternoon" shift that finishes at 3am!!
  2. I'm not at home at the moment, so can't properly try this at the mo, but I *think* I know where they mean (in trying to solve THIS problem - to no avail - I think I've found the answer to another problem in this place - when I connected the laptop to my tv using an HDMI cable, the sound only came through the laptop rather than the TV, however, in the same place the link is talking about, there's an option to change from speakers to HDMI output. Not tried it yet but hopeful it would work). So in short (phew!), I don't think that will solve my problems, but that's so much for taking the time. I think the speakers/sound card might be knackered.
  3. Have checked and nothing is showing wrong, the speakers are supposedly showing as working ok.....
  4. I try to have it on a solid surface whereever I can.
  5. With regard to system beeps etc - no, getting nothing. Thanks for advice re fan, will have a go at this. But it always has been hot from new, I think it was one of the things that came up in the reviews. I've just reinstalled drivers again, no joy.
  6. Ah cheers. But you're right, it don't help me....!
  7. Yeah. Thanks a lot but I've checked all the different places where you can mute things.
  8. It's Vista. I'm going to dedicate the whole of today to this. Do you think my sound card could be knackered? This laptop gets really hot.
  9. I did do a system restore when the sound first went (ie before I updated the drivers), to no avail, but with regard to it maybe being a windows update - possibly? I can't find anything particularly current on Google. Not sure about DirectX. It all gives me something to look at though. It doesn't really help that I'm such a layman with computers, takes me ages to figure owt out! Thanks for help up to here.
  10. Yeah, I'm just trying that now, no sounds again with headphones in, and that's system sounds, YouTube (which also seems to be skipping about a bit), everything. Sorry I can't be more specific.
  11. Hi I've got an Acer Aspire 5920G, and the sound appears to have packed up. As far as I can see, everything is turned on and up (via control panel etc), everything appears to be showing as working properly (no exclamation marks etc) and it's showing the drivers to be up to date (I downloaded the lastest version). Nothing is working, system sounds, anything. Can anyone assist me in knowing what to try next please? Thanks.
  12. Sorry I never came back to you, and thanks for the reply. I think I resigned myself to having lost everything.
  13. Hi I recently bought a Toshiba external HDD & backed up all my photos & iTunes onto it from my desktop PC and my Acer laptop. My other half then bought a Toshiba Laptop. We started backing everything up from this, but since then, it appears (to me, being a layman and not very techy) to have overwritten all my stuff, with everything from Daves (like an automatic back up of the whole of his system) - it appears to be via a Nero backup programme that's been used. Can anyone tell me whether it's likely that my stuff is gone for good? And if not, how I could go about restoring it? Any advice would be welcome, I've lost so much music from iTunes (albeit is still on my iPhone at the moment), it's untrue. Thanks a lot!
  14. I just came on here to pay my respects after hearing the news on Facebook. I feel so sad. RIP HappyHippy. xxx
  15. This really winds me up. They leave tens of little holes in the bag, which means it's not airtight any more. Although, saying that, I like the new look Morrisons. It staves off the boredom, and I'll get used to where everything is in no time. And the new exit is ace.
  16. Just wanted to say a very belated THANK YOU to Buffy for dj'ing at our wedding in September. She was very friendly and approachable, played exactly what we requested, & did an amazing job. We would totally recommend her services. Thanks Buffy for helping make it a great day. xx
  17. I've got a terrible memory for anyone, but also... I only had a mag mount on a biscuit tin, & could only get as far as Shirecliffe, from Hillsborough, so didn't know very many people anyway. Plus, I used to get terrible bleedover from the bloke with the hot to trot system on the next road to me..... eeeeek!
  18. Ah, amazing! Thank you. I'm ok to copy it across onto itunes then? Mwah mwah, by the way!
  19. When I've just scanned with AVG again, it's bringing this location back for the infection, if it makes any difference? F:\AlphaAudio\AlphaPlayer.exe Ah, but when you try to remove it, it says that thing about object being inaccessable. Eeeek.
  20. Thanks so much for the reply. I'm so sorry, but could you just go a bit more "layman" for me? It is a real commercial CD, should I worry? It does say on the back that it's playable on PC's, I just want to put it onto my iTunes though. Cheers.
  21. Hi. I wondered if anyone could help me with a trojan horse problem please? I've just bought a box set of Kasabians albums. When I put the first album into the disc drive of my laptop, AVG is throwing up a threat detected message - x3, and it's this SHeur2.ALSC. I took the disc out, ran Spybot, which found nothing, neither did Windows Defender, but then (and only then) when I put the disc back into the drive, it threw the warning message up again. It wont move it to the vault, and after I took the disc out the message said something about the object being inaccessable. Now, I don't really know much about computers, so I'm quite aware I might make an arse of myself here, but it's not possible the virus is on the disc, is it? Is it something that is already hidden on my computer and attaching itself to my drive or something? And could anyone offer me any advice please before I knacker the laptop? Thanks very much.
  22. I've been into Asda tonight and asked the same question. They don't stock them anymore...
