  1. Fantastic news!! Hope they aren't too shaken, and you too mum.
  2. I think it's a case of extremes. There has been recent research to suggest that high factor sunscreen being constantly applied is also risky as it blocks Vitamin D. http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2009/aug/25/more-kids-adults-lack-vitamin-d-study-says/
  3. apparently not as the owner has had the dog checked by various vets (particularly the hips) and all is well. There is footage of a vet checking the dog over too, and if it hadn't been taught to walk, it would have been in a grim state.
  4. I usually don't pay much attention to the random emails I get that are intended to promote motivation and joy in life.. but, this one got me. I managed to find a video of it: http://video.google.com/videosearch?client=safari&rls=en&q=faith+the+dog&oe=UTF-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=ovJxSo2gAtCZjAf1r-GrDA&sa=X&oi=video_result_group&ct=title&resnum=4#
  5. I'll note your enthusiasm for bread making dark moomin.
  6. Just to update everyone that has shown interest; We are getting closer to being able to deliver something this summer and I will keep updating everyone as I know more. Keep voting as it will have an influence on what we offer.
  7. What a shame, it must have taken some time to get there and back! Just found this on Rotherham council website: http://www.rotherham.gov.uk/graphics/Leisure/Parks+and+Recreation+Grounds/Clifton+Park+and+Museum/Restoration+Calendar+and+Photo+Diary.htm I hope they reinstate the paddling pool, I have fond memories of it.

  10. Thanks to all so far who have provided contact details so that you can be added to the mailing list. I will keep adding to this list and should be able to present some real choices to you all before the Summer Break. I will also keep you all updated via this thread. If you haven't voted already or someone that hasn't but would like to access something like this; please ask them to vote as it will help with planning the courses regarding take-up. Many thanks
  11. Yes, you have the right idea kath196, apothecary type balms.
  12. Brilliant. I do, indeed, know who you mean! Great guys. Well, it's looking like I need to get a spurt on and get these courses together for Summer.
  13. If you want to pm me your details I will put you on the list and let you know when they are starting, hopefully this Summer!
  14. yes, we could do bread making courses as we have a huge new bakery! and a master baker soon.
  15. You could also look at this link for insipration (and a location map) as it is our commercial site: http://academyofmakers.co.uk/
  16. Freeman College is on Arundel Street, just opposite the new University building, a bit further along from Silversmiths (old Runaway girl). But we have 7 sites across Sheffield, Farm at Eyam, Theatre at netheredge..... I'm thinking about getting something up and running for the Summer weeks, out of term time.
  17. Freeman College, in Sheffield, is looking at expanding its curriculum to include adult courses in "Traditional Crafts for self development". This is in response to numerous requests from the public to be able to access the curriculum that we offer our students. At present (but always developing) we currently have: Weaving Greenwood work Gilding Jewellery (Silver) Pewter Copper Spinnng Hand Spoon forging (Copper & Silver) Upland Farming Horticulture Felting Knitting Balm making Drama Organic Catering Bread making All of the above have a therapeutic content embedded within the craft and our curriculum has been evaluated, recently, professionals from health and education. Dr Aric Sigman has also written more than one document related to our curriculum: http://www.rmet.co.uk/Well-Connected.pdf Another link to the work we do can be found here, along with a film featuring Freeman College: http://www.rmet.org.uk/ My question for now would be; Would you be interested in attending courses (evening/weekend/week long) courses in any of the following, based in Sheffield? Please vote on the Poll.
  18. Thank you this is useful information.
  19. http://www.allianceforchildhood.org/home Someone is trying to save it; sign up!
  20. Thanks amyamymay, I perhaps should make my question, and context of it, a little clearer; I am not a carer or parent of a child with such disabilities but work in the sector of education and care of young adults with such disabilities. It is becoming increasingly clear to us in our organisation that there appears to be a lack of provision around respite, and we are faced with difficult issues out of term time when a young adult has problems around returning home. We are starting to think about investigating the possibility of providing quality respite and how viable this will be for us as a charity.
  21. Yes, my thought was respite for blocks of weeks (not just a couple of hours) done residentially.
  22. Does anyone know if there is respite provision in Sheffield for 16-25 year olds with Autism, Aspergers, Developmental delays, Mental health problems, challenging behaviour etc?
