  1. But is it? I would have thought that higher inflation of goods means more vat for the gov-kerching. If the government borrows their money from non UK establishments, how is the interest on government debt affected by the UK bank rate?
  2. Certainly a valid point about coffee generally. There must be a big mark up on instant coffee in most retail outlets. I don't know anything about special coffees. I got 112 mugs of coffee out of a 300g jar at £5, and enjoyed every mug. So less than 5p for the actual coffee. Boiling the water at the current price of energy is probaby the main cost. The thing about selling us coffee, I see it more of selling a service than the actual cost of coffee. It is nice to occasionally go inside a place to sit down and get a coffee when in town. I am willing to pay the 2 quid for the relaxation, I enjoy it.
  3. Thank you Rockers for explaining your viewppint. However, it is the viewpoint of your glass being half empty. The item is not for sale at a higher price to some cutomers. It is for sale for £1 to every customer. If a customer has made the effort and signed up free of charge for a clubcard, on this occasion the £1 item is discounted in price not increased in price. It is a loyaly scheme. Greggs provide a small card. It gets stamped each time you buy a coffee. After 6 coffees you get the 7th coffee Free. Should you get your 7th coffee for free if you don't carry the card. Or , do you feel that is also unjust?
  4. What do you mean Rockers ? Is that a Euphemism ?
  5. 😂😂 Let's hope she doesn't use the forum , else you maybe sleeping on the sofa. What........? there's no room in the bed??
  6. If I have understood re my bold above, the SF classified ads has been going quite a while. It was paused during lockdown.
  7. When I started this thread I wanted to highlight the 20% rise of some food items in some supermarkets. Additionally, I was and still am interested in the sharing of details regarding special offers that others see while out and about. I am happy to post details on here of anything I feel may potentially help others. Yesterday I saw that Tesco have Ferrero Rocher on offer when purchased, with the clubcard used. Offer due to valentines day, get something to fatten the wife up. ♥️
  8. I'm not suggesting that food prices should not increase. It is the percentage of the increase that is a contentious issue. We are assured that energy prices will eventually fall back down. I feel it is highly unlikely that food prices will also do the same.
  9. When you buy the same food items on a regular basis you certainly notice spikes, at least I do. We don't mind so much about a few pence here and there. I am seeing 20% increases on individual food items. I don't think supermarkets are going to publicise which of their prices have gone up by 20%. Maybe we should help each other by sharing details of what we have seen increase by at least 20%. Also where good offers are on in our respective areas. Aldi full skimmed milk has just gone up by 20% since two days ago. What price hikes have you noticed, and which places are doing decent discounts? Every littke helps😊
  10. I don't suppose the free email account from Yahoo can help in any way? I do know that you can manually add 'senders' email addresses to the 'blocked senders list.
  11. Ok. Thank you for all the various options on this fix.
  12. Either that above, OR could it be that on the occasions that the original key failed, you maybe had the 'button battery in the wrong way round.
  13. Does anyone know how to get the screen shot icon back?
  14. Ok. As to the several reasons why Forgemasters did not get the larger press, it cannot have been anything to do with concerns from local people about noise.
  15. Windows 10 Can anyone please advise me how I can bring back the screen shot symbol ? It used to be there at the top right of the screen. I cannot recall whether it was when using Edge or Firefox, because I have both browsers. I need to use it now but don't know what the symbol looks like or how to retrieve it. Thanks.
  16. I like the idea that Sheffield has the heavy engineering plant-Forgemasters, even though it is not a massive place. As the saying goes, good things come in small packages. In this case Quality not quantity. Sheffield people have something to be proud of. Just like the steel plants that were synonymous with the city. @AnnaB I found the 'Engineer' link you posted about Forgemasters to be an interesting read in another thread-I didn't want to go off topic there. In a quote about upgrading to a much larger forging press- 15000 tonne? Mr Birtles said, "We can make pretty much anything that they (edf/Horizon) can make. Regardless of the reasons why the bigger press did not materialise, it was quite unfortunate. I wanted to ask the people on here that know first hand, at what distance from the Forgemasters plant could the noise actually be heard at a level that was an issue?
  17. I can imagine that gas prices are high in many places. However, regarding France and the electricity, right or wrong I imagine the country to be well established with nuclear generators. I only think that because they build them plants for others.
  18. But the Uk gets less than 5% of it's gas from Russia.
  19. @ gamezone It is worth following what Zach has suggested doing. He spent time & effort providing me with good techy advice re computer hardware etc. I don't think he will put you wrong. Why not Pm him?
  20. A simple and secure method of shipping is what I call the silver label system from the post office. It is guaranteed to arrive by next day. If it does not, you will be compensated. The cost is around £7. This price also includes compensation for loss or damage. However you can pay a bit more to increase the cover if the item is worth more than standard cover. Tracked and signed for too. I've used the system for cash/a debit card. Never been lost or late, because the PO would have to shell out. Buy it now. Whenever I have used 'buy it now' it was an alternative option to using the standard auction option. This listing price for BIN was a similar cost-a neglible amount. Insist on payment by Paypal, and payment as soon as item is won.
  21. Just about everything increases in price when demand increases considerably.I find it hard to believe that all of a sudden there is a big rush to use more gas by so many organisations. I cannot help thinking that there is something else going on. A deliberate action in one form or another? Although the UK and some other countries in Europe produce gas, none of these appear to be the top ten producers, at least at the date of the article. Link for the 10 countries with the highest natural gas production. 1 Russia 2 Iran 3 Quatar 4 United states 5 Saudi Arabia 6 Turkmenistan 7 United Arab Emerates 8 Venezuela 9 Nigeria 10 China https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/natural-gas-by-country
  22. @fools Good afternoon, It is ok. Not for one second did I think you had made it up. I assumed that you must have got the standing charge and Kwh costs missed up. What you have shared with us here is concerning? I know the suppliers have to pay the high wholsale cost, and make a profit. However, charging nearly 15 quid per month for standing charge is taking advantage of customers. In your link it says "Suppliers can't charge you more than the cap we set ". Well they don't have to charge more do they. Some help the regulator is eh? So if I stop using electric for example , I still get charged an extra £7.50 per month. Thank you for the link.
  23. Both figures for the gas seem right. 45p per day standing charge for leccy seem high?
  24. But in that line of debate most functions can never perform in isolation or without impact on other users-choosing whether to eat beef or not.Re cows farting all day and releasing methane. Maybe it is about perspective, if we consider the vast amount of polution that aircraft emit. We have seen how many land and take-off a just one main airport in a few minutes. It is constant. My point is that MPs are concerned about a 30 odd billion black hole. THEY would be telling us to cut our cloth to suit if we were struggling. If the gov decided to vastly increase the tax on flying when we have say 95% all electric vehicles, would that be the right thing to do? It would bring in some revenue and most importantly it would reduce Co2.
