  1. Good morning Mally, thank you for the heads up. When I looked online I did get the impression that there could be more than one address, hence why I posted my question. 'HeHasRisen' has helped me. I have put S1 2HH on the envelope. The guys at Royal mail go the extra mile. I think it should be ok.
  2. I feel this site may be of interest to the members who have an interest in this section of the forum. Some very old photos. https://www.francisfrith.com/sheffield/photos
  3. A concern I read about some years ago was the mercury content in Salmon. The health bods were advising to only eat salmon up to twice per week. Apparently it starts with the tiny fish. I understand that there is a quite lot of 'farmed salmon'. Maybe that is safer?
  4. Thank you for your advice, it is appreciated.
  5. It is repairs dept, but I need to enclose stuff in the envelope so not using email. So I will ignore the Barkers Pool bit? . I believe it is S1
  6. Thanks for the links, very interesting. I hope the rivers remain clean now. The irony though is that some of the water companies are discharging raw sewage in to rivers. You couldn't make it up. It's shameful. This is a recent news article. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-60040162
  7. I was searching online for the correct address of Sheffield council. I got Pinstone street S1 2HH. I also got Barkers pool? Is Pinstone st within Barkers pool, or does the council have different locations depending on nature of mail. I have a letter to send.
  8. Alchr, Do we know roughly how long ago it was that the area was named that?
  9. This may not be very helpful to you, but it could lead on to something/someone. I have been to two 'talks' on other subjects at the Fat Cat pub that were run in an evening. The is of course in Sheffield. If you dug around, made a few phone calls and contacted the people who do the speaking at the Cat, they may connect you to someone. People lead to peaple, sort of thing.
  10. A year or two back, we were informed via local news media that the river Don had been cleaned up. The news report told us that Salmon were back in the Don. I'm referring to the stretch that runs through Sheffield & Rotherham in the context of this thread. Did this actually happen, or was it nonsense. Or, maybe it happened briefly and the rivers became poluted again. Anyone know? I'm quite interested in this. Probably a one-off stray salmon as I've heard nothing else. I did a brief search and this came up. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/salmon-found-in-river-don-at-sheffield
  11. I'm not sure if this comes within the criteria of being a collector. When I am out and about cycling, I will pick up pieces of steel that I see on the road/path. I use the steel for little jobs that I occasionally need to do with the electric welder. It is not easy to buy small pieces of steel. The main area where I see it has been on Sheffield road between Tinsley & Eccles roundabouts. It probably falls off overloaded lorries. I picked up a rod of brass one day - about 3ft long, I occassionally use that to shove in & out of my composters to airate the decomping waste. The rod won't rust of course. I hope the OP does not mind....... I am currenty on the look out for a short piece of 50x50mm box section, less than 30cm will be fine. It does not matter if this is very rusty. This piece is not for welding if anyone has a bit laying around. Thank you.
  12. I suppose any help from any place is always welcome. The main issue is the Gas. I've started using my electric fire instead of the gas fire. With the gas fire a lot of the heat goes up the chimney too.
  13. Re natsy1984 This idea has probably only a slim chance due to the time duration, but he/she may get an email alert if you send a PM.The account is set up for PM.
  14. Thank you so much for these replies-very helpful, and so prompt. I'm still at the flat and have clarified everything for him. That's great.
  15. I booked a booster appointment for my elderly friend. 'NHS booking' gave me the address of Upwell pharmacy No 119 to 121 Upwell St. I have just looked online and this pharmacy comes up as No 93 Upwell St. We 'think' it is located in S4 area, but we don't have a clue what the area is called. The phone No online is given as 0114 2435504? The pharmacy auto message said they were closed , and it was only 14.24 hrs. The message mentioned something about Sheffield teaching hospital. I can phone up in the morning, but I am at his flat at the moment I'm in Tinsley. Hope someone can make help with the address etc. Thank you.
  16. Yorkshire Water sent me a water saving pack, free of charge. I just had to phone up and request one.
  17. It is a good thing to compost, Rockers.🖒 I did find that the matarial that the tea bag is made from doesn't decompose easily, if at all. Changes are are being made by some of the tea companies to cease putting plastic in the production of the bag material . That has to be a good thing. Bags are quick and convenient, but loose leaf tea seems to be the healthy option.
  18. @Stanmash If the food waste you refer to is cooked food, don't put it on your compost heap because it will attract rats. If you are referring to peelings/egg shells/tea leaves it is ok. Food waste that goes for commercial composting is processed at much higher temperatures.
  19. If it was me and it needed topping up I would use what I had. Years ago Castrol 20W/50 multigrade was put in most engines. If you take your car to a garage for an annual service, you'll probably never know what oil they have put in, but you won't worry about it.
  20. Not metered as such but calculated based on clean water used. For every cubic meter that comes out of your pipes, you are charged 0.95 cubic metre for sewage disposal. There is also the standing charge too.
  21. The consensus on the Fiat forum goes with 5w/40 https://www.fiatforum.com/threads/fiat-500-oil-type.341305/
  22. Just in case you did not notice, the original post was made 9 years ago, and it is about 5 years since they were on here. I have done something similar, it can be easilly missed
  23. The supermarket I was looking for is called Emin. I got the place up on Google maps. I thought there may have been a phone number on the frontage. The listing I found online is a dead line. It says 24/7 on the frontage but no number. I will have to cycle up there. https://maps.app.goo.gl/XPW7HJdPmh1T75Td8
  24. Thank you for your interest Sibon. From a child I was fascinated with seeds and what they can turn in to. Sowing water cress in little trays in the house, and Radishes in the garden for my grandmother. So from that time I had the bug. I moved to an area where there were lots of mature trees around. Inevitably there would be a conker tree popping up in the lawn, courtesy of the local squirels. I would pot up whatever trees I saw growing, and began collecting tree seeds and sowing them. Over 200 have gone in the ground so far. But walking up and down the steep embankment to access the planting area was not ideal. Now there is a fix for that. Bassett 1 has created an opportunity for me to drive right up to a planting area in Sheffield , and it will no longer be just me & my spade. ☺🌳🌳
  25. Have initiated contact with your contact Mr Hunter. Thank you for your help.
