  1. hi rsol, my grandmother and grandfather rachel freestone nee farrow and george freestone lived at 67 ranskill road tinsley. unfortunately they were a bit before your time. they came out to australia in 1924. there children were george, betty and robert. I also have a birth and death certificate for a richard freestone 1918 which states 67 ranskill road. my father frederick was adopted by them in 1919 and the adoption certifcate was signed by a albert edward smith of 12 ranskill road tinsley.I have been unable to find out if he was related or just a witness.
  2. my father was related to the firm Dawes and Ball. I believe they are still in existence. We used to have some cutlery with their name on it. I don't think they produce cutlery now.

  4. Hello I have just come accross this site. My adoptive great grandmother was Phancy Uranah Crookes born Wadsley Yorkshire 1860. Just mentioned it in case it was any help to you.
  5. many thanks plain talker. my grandmother lived 1919 and 1920 at 20 onslow road and 20 carrington road sheffield, would you know what sort of accomodation this would have been e.g boarding houses, pubs, terrace housing etc. my grandmother was a cook at rotherham before moving to sheffield and I am trying to track down her lifestyle. a guess will do

  7. whilst doing my family research I found my grandmother lived 1919 and 1920 at 20 onslow road and 20 carrington road sheffield. would any older members of this site know if these addresses used to be pubs, well to do houses, shops etc. I am trying to work out where she may have worked, she used to be a cook in earlier jobs.
  8. I have just been looking at the 1911 census and found my grandparents used to live at 10ct 7 britannia road darnell. Does it still exist? He was a colliery shunter.

  10. Dear Dana, just out of interest what was Walter Browns date of birth and was he married. It sounds complicated and it is complicated but I to am searching for a Walter surname unknown from the Nottingham and sheffield area.

I am hopeful that someone might be related to albert edward smith of 12 ranskill road tinsley and george freestone of 67 ranskill road tinsley who witnessed an adoption certificate for walter hogg 1919 in the city of sheffield. walter hoggs mother was margaret hogg who worked as a cook at the red lion hotel wath.
