Anyone work at Tinsley Wire Ltd?
Mad Pierre replied to rustybum's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
I remember the Medical Centre at the top of the yard, there were nurses on three shifts, a Matron on days and a visiting Doctor, and we even had our own ambulance. Security had uniforms with a TWIL badge on their hat. -

I wonder if anyone can remember a huge 'BANG' or some sort of 'BOOM' which took place one night some years ago in the vicinity of the Fitting Shop in No.2 Factory and blew all the dust out of the roof ? -
Sensible-Bus, you're right, you did say quality, my point is that if money can be made selling humble hotdogs and tins of pop, just imagine how much a stall selling quality products could make, also, the hotdogs were rubbish.
-
I am also informed that the reason there were no stalls selling quality products is that the stall fees are far too high, (in the region of £80 for the day) . I bet some of the Hot dog stalls made £80 in the first 30 seconds, I paid £8 for 2 Hotdogs and 2 tins of pop!

There was the Sports Club, with sections like Fishing, Football, Golf and Chess, successfully taking part in the Sheffield leagues. We even had a First Aid section which took part in local competitions and had an annual dance. We had a purpose built Sports and Social Club at Ferrars Road, with facilities for all the sports teams as well as providing a venue for retirements or award ceremonies. -

When I wer’ a lad, we had canteens in both factories, you could get a breakfast or a bacon sarni on days and a meal or a bag of chips on afters and nights , a mug of tea or a pint of lime or orange. The little shop in No1 canteen sold fags and chocolate. We had a Christmas meal every year, no matter what shift you were on, turkey, little sausages with bacon wrapped round them, loads of veg and gravy and a bottle of beer, mince pie, Christmas pudding and custard for dessert. Children of employees had a Christmas party every year and Father Christmas would always find time to turn up and hand out a few presents. -
