Hi. My dad, Leonard Senior was from Attercliffe. He was born in 1925 and died in 1983. I’m trying to find more about him as my mum, also now dead, has left me with little or no knowledge of his early life. He has sisters and a brother who have helped where they could. I have a Victorian terrace with a courtyard. I've bought some land above it for a garden. There's a brick wall and the land is above that about one storey high. I need steps up to it. Prefer brick to wood but unsure of costs or who to ask. Can anyone help or recommend anyone?

Good for him! I'd use it to save shoe leather on walking from the top of Crookesmoor where I park now. Am sure the residents on the roads I find would be happier too.

Because we like to enjoy ourselves and happiness is the best medicine. Keeps people out of these so-called needy hospitals. I work in one and the lack of business sense resulting in wasted money is phenomenal. Get real, be proud to be British and stop whinging. Am off to my street party today to meet my neighbours properly and enjoy being part of a strong community. The bunting is cheap at the side of feeling happy and part of something.

It was 'bought'... except they had no money apparently... by a couple of guys who intended to build a multi-storey carpark for the hospitals and Uni. This was back in 2008ish. Great news. So frustrating trying to find clothes to fit my tall daughter when I could make them so easily - but NO SHOPS! Online fabric just doesn't work. How do you know what you want to start with. Often I buy on impulse - that looks good I could make X with that. Thanks for the info. Any more recommendations for fabric shops welcomed - even if I have to drive 40 miles to get there.

Highly recommend Jeff the Joiner. Tel no. 07861 379796. Just fitted 7 doors for me in a victorian terrace where none of the frames were straight. Fab job. Also built me a banister rail in the loft. Had to wait as he was so busy but a great job. Also he put me onto a firm in Chesterfield, Finney's Wood Finishes. Really nice guy who was incredibly helpful and very knowledgeable.
