  1. My ridgetiles are in desperate need of repointing and a few slates could probably do with replacing on my roof. I'm not in a position at the moment where I can afford to put a new roof on. I'm just looking for some advice on how much I could expect to pay for this, (it's a three bed terrace in hillsborough) and some recommendations on who would be able to do it. Thanks Hannah
  2. its been bad in Leeds for a few days - my 86 year old nan is gutted she can only watch BBC shes missing out on all the coronation street gossip, there is no word on when it'll be fixed
  3. this is just getting silly - you're obviously an angry individual with issues and I'm going to make this my last word on the matter. I'm cross you've turned a simple query into a forum for you pathetic ranting. As I said in an earlier post, my brother is a tradesman who runs his own small business, he's also a rational human being and realises that consumers are changing and want to understand what he is charging them for and why. To accomodate this, he adapts his business to suit the people he is working for. If you're a small honest firm who's built a good reputation you really shouldn't have any worries about 'rouge traders' Does it matter that tomorrows general public aren't all going to be white anglo saxon?? I certainly don't fit into that catagory but it doesn't stop me contributing positively (probably far more than you) to society. What the hell are you doing rooting through your neighbours bins? Aside from it being barely legal, it's actually pathetic. You've proved to me that you can't judge intelligence on literacy skill, as you can obviously read and write, however you've shown yourself to be someone of minimium intelligence and maximum ignorance.
  4. I can't believe me asking for a little advice 6 months ago has turned into such a rant. I've got my problem partially sorted, my bedroom is a little bit warmer (and my built in wardrobe has insulation now round it so I might not have to put on freezing cold clothes in the winter), if I choose to stay in my house a few more years I will get the roof re-done and insulated with kingspan right up to the apex........
  5. wow, that's a ranty reply to a very simple question, as my brother is a tradesman I know what is good and bad workmanship and will always thank people appropriately if work is done well in my house. With regards to the insulation, as it happens the council have come, installed hatches at either side of the room and insulated as much of the crawl space as they could get to, including attaching the insulation to the existing plasterboard walls, cost me nothing, they did a lovely job and I made them lots of tea, gave them biscuits and thanked them very sincerly for hopefully keeping me warm!
  6. Thankyou all for you kind words - the house feels very empty and quiet- I'm just so pleased I've spent the last week spoiling him rotten. I'll send Pets@home a PM now, I'd like some other pups to benefit from the massive stash of grub and treats I've got.
  7. Sadly my little cavvie went into liver failure and died yesterday, he was only 3. I've got a lot of dog food going spare and wondered if anyone could recommend a rescue centre that would take it - there's an unopened and an opened 15kg bag of dried food and a load of dentastixs. I'm happy to drop it all off somewhere in Sheffield in the next week. thanks Han
  8. thanks to everyone for your suggestions - the little fella has been at vets since thrusday - after loads of tests and an endoscopy looks like he's got a problem with his liver which explains why he's not been eating - he's started to respond to some antibiotics and is looking a bit brighter today so fingers crossed he's on the mend.
  9. he's by himself between 8 and 5.30 mon to fri - i know its a long time but I really don't have a choice in the matter. In the past he has been left for this long before and he's been fine with it. I don't know anyone who can come and let him out entertain him during the day. I've tried to be strong and not fuss with the food, tried leaving it down for half an hour and removing it but after a week of not eating I tried to tempt him - which if it is behavioural I know won't have made it any better..... I'm going back to the vet this evening to see if they can suggest anything else.
  10. he had an xray and bloody tests on sunday which showed nothing . he struggled to toilet on monday and tuesday so i called the vet who advised lactulose which he's had and he hasn't tried to go. He's happy enough in himself with a nice cold wet doggy nose, he's showing interested in the food I'm putting down , sniffing it and staring at it with a wagging tail, just not eating it - which is making me think he's being maniuplative because he's alone longer during the day. I am going to take him back down to the vets tomorrow eve but if anyone has any ideas i can try before then??
  11. I'm after a bit of advice please: I've got a three year old Cavvie who's seemingly decided to stop eating - it's been a week and a half since he's had a proper meal, and although he's never been the best eater, he's now turning his nose up at everything (wet dog food, chicken, fish, cheese, scrambled egg) he wont even eat treats such as dentastixs or rawhide chews which he normally loves (though he will play with the rawhide). He wouldn't entertain anything yesterday, today he's just had a mouthful of egg, He is however drinking normally and I've caught him nibbling on grass. I've taken him to the vet twice who could find nothing physically wrong with him, but he is loosing weight and I'm starting to get very anxious. I've changed my working pattern over the last few weeks so am out longer and this seems to have coincided with his hunger strike, unfortunatly there is nothing I can do about this situation. Has anyone got any ideas how I can get him interested in food again without making it a massive drama??? Thanks
  12. Free green waste bags have been available for the last year. This is news to me - I've not had any communication from the council about it or seen any green waste bags on our street, I will however be looking into it if the new system isn't in place by the time my garden comes back to life. Special car trips with recyclables should be avoided wherever possible. It is far better to take them to banks at the shops or other places to where you would be making a journey anyway. Please don't preach to me about "special" car trips to take recyling - I usually take the recycling to the tip or recycling banks at the supermarket when I'm about anyway - the point I was trying to make was that it's going to be much easier for people who don't give as much as a toss about what they throw away as I do, or those who don't have access to a car.
  13. I was appauled by the recycling arrangements when I moved to sheffield 3 years ago, having lived in Leeds and in various boroughs in London I have never experienced such poor kerbside recycling as Sheffield. I'm lucky enough to have a car so have been able to recycle by taking my plastics and glass down to the tip every few weeks and filling my boot with garden waste all summer, I dread to think of the amount of stuff that has unneccessarily been thrown away over the years by people who can't do this! Bring on the new arrangments - and quick!!
  14. Thanks for all the ideas it's appreciated, as it turns out yesterday scaffolding went up on the other side and it looks like they're also about to get a new roof. I'm going to have a word with the guys doing it today and see if they would be able to stick some insulation in whilst they are in the crawl space........ it's worth a try!
  15. Having frozen every night for the last two winters I'm looking for suggestions on how best to insulate my attic bedroom without having to take the roof off. The house is a 3 bed victorian terrace, I'm guessing the room was converted to a bedroom as it is now in the 50's, there is a large single glazed dormer which I'm going to try and find something to insulate the glass with, and I've got some blackout curtains which help a little to keep the cold out The problem really is that between the bedroom and the roof is just a couple of plasterboard walls....... I know nextdoor had their roof re-done over the summer and they insulated at the time but I can't afford at the moment to take the roof off to lay insulation... Any ideas???? If all else fails I've gone out and got me an electric blanket.......
