  1. Should faith schools be allowed to teach sex education differently? Another classic case of people who believe in a man made load of codswallop forcing thier views on innocent children. Children should be presented with the plain facts, and the plain facts don't include people who don't have sex telling the people who may and already do have sex how to do it and who with!! GOD does not exist. He is a man made load of rubbish. Where was god before the thought of man. Religion is a special kind of ignorance afforded ridiculous privilage. Perhaps i should get special treatment because i believe in the tooth fairy?? When we are so close to a robust cognitive explaination that will explain religion as a mental condition, why do we accept this? Religion is for the weak, athiesm is for the free. The bible most people read is a doctored version Henry the 8th had translated. He made bits up and removed bits to suit him, this after the christain church had done the same thing numerous times prior. The bible bears absolutely none of the original text that was MADE UP in the 350 years after Jesus's death!!!
  2. I know its ages since i posted but i must reply. It is 20,000 years as originally posted. The christian faith was born from the old testament, which was believed for 15,000 years before the new one.
  3. ----------------- Can i add here the catholic church mad the biggest u-turn in history and accepted evolution as fact [it is undoubtedly fact, 100% proven, and undeniable fact]. This after 20'000 years of brainwashing people against it!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Bingo-Cruelty is to cause suffering deliberately for the sake of it. An omniscient god would see the pain would he/she not?
  5. Student: Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death, a good God and a bad God. You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, science can’t even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing. Death is not the opposite of life: Just the absence of it. Now tell me, Professor. Do you teach your student that they evolved from monkey? Ignorance is bliss. Of course we [iE me and you] are not descended from monkey, but our ancestors have gradually evolved from APES [not monkey] over 100's of thousands of years and with 100's of thousands of gradual variations. We are not direct descendants of monkeys and if you read a book or 2 aimed at over fives you would see that. READ A BOOK!!! other than the bible!!!! A typical naive interpretation of something you have no idea of.
  6. Since the whole point of this made up religious brainwashing, wishy washy crap-invented by a religious person hangs on the following comment [i thought i'd chip in]; Darkness is the absence of something .You can have low light, normal light, bright light , flashing light…But if you have no light constantly , you have nothing and its called darkness Darkness exists without light. Without light darkness still exists, so the whole metaphore for your ridiculous argument fails. The "student" in question must have never read a phsyics book aimed at 11 year olds, had they done so they may have stumbled accross photons. Go on-google it. You could choose to continue this debate with me if you feel confident?
  7. You absolute cretin of a human. You are from an unbroken line of evolution dating back over three and a half thousand million years and the best reply you can spout is that of a 3 year old child! Read about evolution before making RIDICULOUS comments!! Fumes!!!
  8. and in fact you need to be stronger than most if you are going to be a Christian. Why would you say that? You are in an apparent majority throughout the world. A christian knows nothing about strength, they have always fought to ram their nonsensical beliefs down the throat of anyone, whether the agreed or not. A christian playing the suppressed card is frankly ridiculous. Your belief system is responsible for more deaths than any other man made object or though ever to have graced the human mind. Thank "sense" that we saw the light and stopped listening to bigoted nonsense that christians spout! Get a grip. Read books. Stop being so naive!
  9. Is it? So which is which? Does god condone parasitical wasps that paralyse their pray and plant eggs inside their living victim allowing their eggs to eat the creature [alive] from the inside? Is that god or the devil? Because there is beauty and evil all rolled into one with that. God is a human delusion. A mental illness. Not apparent in animals without thought and none existent until thought of man.
  10. Did god make the universe? That's quite a claim. To claim god created everything in the universe is utterly ridiculous. It's massive. More massive than you can imagine. Life just happens. It starts and evolves from the most miniscule of chemical existence. You could see this as miracle or you could just view it as an inevitable chemical reaction that would happen anywhere in the universe providing the right conditions along with explainable physics. The more i read into science the more ridiculous god seems. Life doesn't need god, only some life needs god. I am currently reading "The Universe" [a biography] by John Gribbin. It is a wonderful insight into the theory of the universe. There is some clear and understandable chapters on quantum physics. If you bother to read more than the stories in the bible and challenge yourself with such books, a whole new world will unfold in front of your very eyes. A world where everything makes sense-a world much older and wiser world than the religious scripture many choose to believe in. Our planet, our solar system, our universe doesn't need god, only physical and biological conditions. Darwin is universal, god simply isn't.
  11. Create worms? Make ants that kill other nests in order to steal their eggs to breed slaves? Allow mantis to eat the father of thier child and sometimes the body after pro-creating? Allow certain parasitic wasps paralise their grub victims by stinging, only to lay eggs in its body that eat them-alive-from the inside! See the point in letting whales spend 100's of thousands of years moving to land only to dictate it has to go back to sea with lungs. And that's the unconscious creatures of god acting almost as if he didn't exist at all and just doing whatever it takes-just to survive. Once we start with conscious minds we enter all new realms of god supervised evil. My point here really says that anyone who claims to believe in evolution and god must enjoy the cruelty god insists most unconscious animals inflict on one another. You can't truly understand evolution if you believe in god. The two can't go hand in hand. Evolution contradicts ALL religious [man made] scripture. MAN HAS EXISTED FOR LESS THAN 1% OF OUR PLANETS LIFE. WITHOUT MAN THERE IS NO GOD. GOD HAS EXISTED FOR LESS THAN 250,000 YEARS, OUR PLANET HAS EXISTED FOR MORE THAN 4500 MILLION YEARS. The concept of god goes against all scientific facts that we know. The threats of hell and the promise of heaven are strong pulls on our human psychology, but we don't have a scrap of evidence to support. All we have is some crappy man made documents, written over several hundred years and adapted, translated and doctored over a a 1000 year period. This is in what could be described as modern times, relative to the age of man. What did they believe in for the 230-240 thousand years before this tosh? Clue-probably more tosh long since forgotten! The old testament lasted for around 15,000 years before being almost completely dismissed as nonsense Jesus. he decided to make up his own **** and bull version of life, and many people still prescribe to the biggest con that ever lived. Jesus conned and cons you all. What god allows adults to touch children? What sort of god can't do anything about it? What sort of god do you believe in?
  12. Not posted for some time; had a baby girl [Neve] and lost a grandfather [in-law]. The most amazing thing i have seen was Desmond [our gerts grandad] holding my little baby in his arms 6 weeks ago. Little did any of us know he would be dead the week after. A massive stroke wiped out one of the most influential figures of my life and with it of of life's great characters. It all began 6 weeks ago with the birth of my little bundle of joy who now goes by the name of Neve. It was the most ridiculous experience of my life, as all parents will know. But for me it created a picture of life in its most beautiful simple way-reproduction. Pro-creation is god for me, it's what life is all about. The birth of any child far outweighs any superstition carried by any human being because its real, it actually happens and it actually feels like every step you ever made; all of a sudden makes sense. No wishy washy "may mean this, may mean that" type guidance offered by religious scripture-just plain old- "this is what life is all about". My story and feelings were further enhanced when within a few weeks a close relative and a spearhead of our family had a stroke and died in his own in his basement. Not without a fight though. He had climbed to his feet and tried to climb the stairs. RIP Desmond Helliwell-A dad-A grandad-A great grandad-A true gent. But again it puts me back in the same point of view. This is life. It can be cruel with one hand while stroking the back of your needing neck with its other. It is remarkable, and for that i thank my parents, not a fantasy god- but real life gods and hero's; my mum and dad. Say what you will but i saw the death of Des before it happened. I was often told a story of my great grandad holding me when i was a couple of weeks old and "glancing his life into my eyes". I saw that very same thing happen with Des and my daughter. I saw the future. But i could always say that couldn't i? If he died a year later the same suggestion could be made. I could have seen this as a vision or predicting the future. I could also see it as fate. But i didn't, i saw it has life. Life. Ignorance to the intricacies of life would tell me this was a "sign" a "signal from beyond" or a "message from god" and who knows what, only i know better. This was life. A short sharp insight to the wonders of the planet and the universe, and that was at 85 years old. I'm 28.
  13. I don't know if the above is true as i switched off any listening aparatus many years ago after hearing their position on homosexuality. It does have echos of the narrow minded discrimination that all sensible people tie in to views of the vaticun and its bigotry. If it has any sense of truth; here-here to the above statement.Birth control is within our capacity, we suffer gripes of an ever increasing population-a lot of which is due to ill advice of religion nut job figure heads such as the pope. A truely mental institution.
  14. I have several best friends who are gay, so i don't get you point here. If it suggests i discriminate against people you are wrong. Discrimination is unfair, so is life long claiming of benefits. Serial benefit frauds discriminate against the majority of the honest workers, not the other way around!
  15. Firstly can i make an amendment to my title-"there" should obviously be "their"!! Secondly and in response to the above. How much do you know about your argument? Are you aware that funding people who don't don't have to provide for their children actually will be of detriment to the human species in general and several theories advise that benefits provide the foundation for unnatural birth rates. In evolution no other animal is afforded such liberties, and where as i'm sure the claimants and beneficiaries are utterly ignorant of their evolutionary time bomb attitudes, the government isn't. So to question my "humility" is rather daft, because it's the whole foundation of my argument! And the final claim of "keeping my company in work" is wrong too, because it's paid for by tax which is in turn charged to it's employees and employers. The benefit system is an unnatural career path chosen by people who's genes wouldn't spread without it. We live in an over populated planet already with birth rates rising exponentionaly to catastrophic levels, yet we keep putting food on the tables for them. Of course religion plays it's part here by condemning contraception.
  16. I work for a national insulation distributor and my job involves meetings and site visits to various national and local house-builders. Over the last 2 years i have supplied contractors working on various sites around Sheffield and Yorkshire supplying high spec materials, in twice the thicknesses fitted in private developments. These homes are built to "code level" 3 or sometimes level 4 which means they are at least 50% improvement on current building regs and 100% better than mine. The room sizes are 25% larger than mine, and the heating bills can be less than £50 per year! Now i'm not bitter and obviously i benefit from the large orders for these sites provide, but why do we reward people who don't generally work but who choose to have kids as a career and want us to pick up the tab? I'm not discriminating here because it's true and i've seen it happen, site after site, after site. It isn't natural to provide spongers with facilities to have more kids without the ability to provide for them. The welfare system is perverse and unatural.
  17. A quote from wiki; Current interpretations of astronomical observations indicate that the age of the Universe is 13.73 (± 0.12) billion years,[1] and that the diameter of the observable Universe is at least 93 billion light years, or 8.80 × 1026 metres. (It may seem paradoxical that two galaxies on opposite sides can be separated by 93 billion light years after only 13 billion years, since special relativity states that matter cannot be accelerated to exceed the speed of light in a localized region of space-time. However, according to general relativity, can expand with no intrinsic limit on its rate; thus, two galaxies can separate more quickly than the speed of light if the space between them grows.) It is uncertain whether the size of the Universe is finite or infinite. The more i read about space and the universe the more i realise how ridiculous a belief in some form of god is. The idea that anything would be bothered about what can only be described utterly insignificant in universal terms is completely delusional. To create man in an instant [as some christians believe] would involve shaking a thousand million million million million atoms together and up pops man!! [Dawkins] The speed of light is 299,792,458 metres per second and the universe has 97 billion light years diameter. Anyone who claims to truly comprehends these figures is lying, and anyone who claims something controls these figures is deluded. Why would a god create something so vast? The fact space is so big disproves god for me. [i didn't need any more convincing to be honest, but i thought it's another way of expressing how unlikely god is to other humans] Our universe is unimaginably massive, so massive that for every grain of sand on earth it is estimated there are a 1000000 stars! A million stars for every grain of sand on earth. What possible god would create something so vast just to be a god of earth? If he isn't just a god of earth, are we so important to him? And why make our sun in such a way it will kill every living thing we know? 99.9% of every living thing we know is extinct, what makes a religious person so sure we will survive as a species? Thinking beings have existed less than 2 million years-thinking is the only possible way god can exist-our planet is four and a half thousand million years old-dinosaurs lived for a 165 million years-why does it even cross your mind that a god exists? Did the dinosaurs have a jesus type t-rex who conned them of his superiority? I doubt it.
  18. QUOTE=Grahame;5138366]The evidence is there in front of your own eyes and you live to talk about it. You can call it evolution, you can call it the Big Bang but the creation of the cosmos wasn't the doing of humankind and it takes a force or a power that is generally defined as Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient. There are other qualities as well and I include intelligence among them, but you have to agree that whatever happened was really and truly wonderful, and the origin of what happened and all that followed on consequently is the work of someone I call God. So when you hear me talk about God you know I am talking about the Almighty Creator. . One thing i admire about you Grahame is your passion for what you believe. You have 100% conviction and belief in everything you state, regardless of how many disagree with you. That takes a genuine belief and also an understanding of what you say. Whether i agree with you or not; it takes real balls to stand up and be counted. [i am not trying to be patronising, though i often am without intention!] I respect you for that, not that it will make a slight bit of difference! What i want to ask you, without provoking a defensive answer [a natural reaction to being questioned], is this; do you take on board anything that say? Do any of the various [and sometimes very good] posts of an athiest grab you and make you think? I ask this because i have never had an argument which convinces me i am wrong, or even slightly off cue. Not one piece of scripture has ever convinced me that the various books i read are nonsense, yet the various books read have convinced me that the scripture i have read is just that-nonsense. For thousands of years people believed the old testament to be true, and often to the word, true. I think even the most staunch religious apologist accept most of it is obvious fiction with the benfit of hindsight and surely no modern human extrapolates any form of morality from it whatever. The old testament provides nothing to a modern huma, and we choose to sweep it under the carpet. For you Jesus is everything that is right, everything that we should aspire to be. For me you need to provide me a shread of evidence that he existed at all, along with some form of lasting morality he left as a legacy. I think the things you often quote were traits and behaviours already existing and evolved in humans, way before he even roamed our lonely planet.
  19. And where is the single thread of evidence to back up this rather lavish statement? Name me a single thing. How arrogant are you? We have no evidence that god created the physics that enabled us been here, not one bit [see my sign off statement by weinberg] Grahame, whether you like it or not you are insignificant, as am i, as is the human species, infact in cosmology so is earth. It's not even a grain of sand in the universe, not even close. So what makes you so convinced that any potential god even knows our solar system exist, never mind earth and by the time we get to you... Well, is it likely that a god knows who you are? Does god govern all planets within our universe? If so he may not pass ours in billions and billions of years, indeed he may not pass it at all, ever. doesn't exist, because that's why it exists at all. We have to talk in probability, the tooth fairy is real for 10 years or so of your life, as real as father christmas or the easter bunny, but as we get older we realise the probability of a tooth fairy is slim. When we talk about the paranormal we can't provide any direct proof and so we talk about probability. Is it probable a superior being created a universe so vast he might not see his work? We have factual and probable evidence that explains how our universe REALLY started and we have proven our own planets evolution. We have traced our own species back and know we evolved. Why do we have to believe that supernatural forces have driven this, isn't it not enough the fact we are here? It's an insult to the dignity of any surviving species to claim, WITHOUT ANY EVIDENCE, that it was god that put us here. It's offensive.
  20. Went walking yesterday in the rain and experienced some water ingress into my supposedly waterproof hiking boots. It felt a little uncomfortable whilst i was walking but nothing compared to last night in bed. I was woken up about 6 times in absolute agony with my feet. The best way to describe it would be to say i walked across hot coals and forgot to step off at the end. Both feet are suffering. I wonder if it's some form of friction burn from walking several miles in wet shoes? Though i don't have any blisters or noticeable ones, but my feet are swollen and red. The same sensation has just spread into my hands this afternoon, which leads me to think it even less likely that it's the damp boots. Anyone got any ideas what it is? Any remedies? I think its something to do with my nerves, but don't know how to ease the pain. HELP!
  21. Look into Saudi Arabia and their laws. Look at the restrictions placed on people who happen to be born into a religious dictatorship. It's easy for you to say live and let live in the luxury of a free country, you could be killed for making that statement in religious countries. Try reading the below and tell me "Just live n let live! I have my god u have urs. Be happy". A group of Saudi clerics urged the kingdom's new information minister on Sunday to ban women from appearing on TV or in newspapers and magazines, making clear that the country's hardline religious establishment is skeptical of a new push toward moderation. In a statement, the 35 hardline clergymen also called on Abdel Aziz Khoja, who was appointed by King Abdullah on Feb. 14, to prohibit the playing of music and music shows on television. "We have great hope that this media reform will be accomplished by you," said the statement. "We have noticed how well-rooted perversity is in the Ministry of Information and Culture, in television, radio, press, culture clubs and the book fair." Not expected to have much effect Although it raises the pressure on the new minister, the recommendation is likely to have little effect. Khoja's appointment was part of a government shake-up by Abdullah that removed a number of hardline figures and is believed to be part of an effort to weaken the influence of conservatives in this devout desert kingdom. "No Saudi women should appear on TV, no matter what the reason," the statement said. "No images of women should appear in Saudi newspapers and magazines." Saudi Arabia was founded on an alliance with the conservative Wahhabi strain of Islam that sees the mixing of sexes as anathema and believes the playing of music violates religious values. The former information minister, Iyad Madani, earned the ire of hardliners several years ago by allowing music in government-run TV and female journalists to interview men, despite the country's strict gender-segregation rules. Women also appear on Saudi television with their faces showing, though most in public totally cover themselves. So you can see at least one example of why i protest against religion. This country is going backwards. We [taxpayers] are paying to fund the building of schools which teach creationism-something most people people believed to be true for 15,000 years, only it was 2000 years ago, we have unpicked and disproved most of the old testament. So for 15,000 years people like you believed in something most modern humans dismiss as obvious nonsense, something i think about all belief in any sort of scripture. Surely any intelligent person can see a reason to believe in the mountains of evidence, literally mountains of evidence and research that contradicts all religious scripture. But humans are prepared to ignore, twist or are unaware that we have all but disproved god. Most religious people just haven't read enough of the right books-ask Jonathan Edwards.
  22. Report in anonymously. But make sure you do it and soon. My cousin was abused and it's ruined his life, it went on for years and he will never recover. Please, please, please report it. If it comes to nothing you know you did the right thing and looked out for a child, if the worst case is true you have helped a vulnerable child. Ring the local police station-chase them up, if that fails ring citizens advice. The one thing you can't do is ignore it.
