  1. Thanks for the replies; what a shame it's gone. Google seems to think the Huthwaite shop is still open. Anywhere else which will mix Farrow & Ball (or other) colours for a sensible price and decent quality? I know B&Q etc will do it but they charge handsomely for a custom mix, whereas Stokes were reasonable at £20ish for 5L as I recall.
  2. Hi All, Anyone know what has happened to Stokes Paints on Abbeydale Rd? They had only moved up to the new shop 2 or 3 years ago, but driving past recently they seem to have closed. I'm hoping it's temporary or they're moving as it was a great shop.
  3. Some fair comments I suppose. However, as per the streetview there are no signs or painted bicycles on this stretch. There are bollards further up, presumably to prevent cars getting on the pavement, but not further down and no indications except the double-yellows. I'd argue it could be much more clearly labelled if they actually wanted to prevent parking, as evidenced by the dozens of people who park there each weekend. Ordinarily I'd be glad the fine was going to the council rather than a company, but not given their behaviour of late. Anyway I was not complaining, just pointing out somewhere I'd seen people park for years and assessed to be acceptable is actually not acceptable and warning others as such.
  4. Hi All, Just back from Cineworld where the car park was full as usual so I parked on pavement on the road heading out. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.4040079,-1.4152107,3a,75y,171.01h,89.88t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1swDAar4gRkmND_N7czYT3GA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 There are double yellows on the road there but I was fully on the pavement which is very wide (enough for wheelchair to pass comfortably with cars there) and has a segregated line down it as if it's intended for parking (or a cycle lane - but no signs to indicate). People have parked there for years, though I haven't before. The council traffic wardens were there putting a fine on every car parked in such a way when I returned. Presumably they are there every weekend making a killing, so be warned folks!
  5. Missing Freeholder of 45-57 Walkley Lane, Sheffield, which is now the site of Kimberley Court flats. HMLR title shows only the original freeholder and current Good Leasehold title holder (a property management company who do not know the current freeholder's identity). I am a leaseholder in one of the flats. The last known freeholder was Wilfrid Harvey of Blair Athol Road, Sheffield, as of 1923. Are you a descendent of Mr Harvey or do you have knowledge of the current freeholder? Please contact me via PM.
  6. It's passing over Hillsborough now, flying pretty low.
  7. I believe the solicitors Chester & Simmerson (of London Road) were struck off/disbanded around 1997. I need to trace a file they held regarding a freehold dispute on my property. They were the property builder's solicitors at the time. He knows that the files were transferred to another firm but he does not recall who that firm was. If anyone happens to know, I would be very grateful.
  8. Well there's not much to do sat in that queue every day so I do look around and notice when selfish people are making me sit in said queue for longer than necessary. Two or three cars pushing in front is usually enough to make you miss the traffic light so a few minutes wasted per day, every day. I didn't come online to discuss the matter but spotted the thread and saw most folk didn't understand the OP's point of view so decided to back them up. This forum is partly about having a good moan about the buses or bins or some other local issue, and where's the harm in that? Between us we've highlighted the issue, devised a solution and determined it's council owned/maintained, so potentially some good may even come from the thread if someone cares enough and joins the dots.
  9. Not sure if you're deliberately missing the point? To clarify, the person from the retail park was not previously behind me in the queue, therefore I would gladly give way to them. To the arrogant person skipping the queue I would prefer not to give way. Similarly if someone bought food from a drive-through then decided they would like to sit in the restaurant, fair enough, but if they did so just to avoid the queue in the restaurant (and perhaps used up the last available seats), I would think them a self-important arrogant moron. I'm not suggesting there should be any sort of drive-through police for this scenario, just that people should take a look at themselves and do as they would have done to themselves. In the case of the slip road, I assume the loop-through is there as it was intended to put a petrol station there at one time. Since that has not transpired, perhaps the owners could simply put cones across the loop-through to prevent this tactic without hindering people entering or exiting the retail park as intended. The queue jumpers could go into the carpark and turn around if they wished but at least it would make it less inviting.
  10. I agree completely WeX, it winds me up too. It seems like most respondents above don't understand the road setup there but you are completely correct. It frustrates me that you can't see far enough in your mirror to tell whether someone trying to join there is an arrogant queue-jumper or has just come out from the retail park so you can't respond accordingly. A few months ago they changed the road layout a bit beyond there for turning right to Dooley Way and stopped (most of) the push-ins and improved the traffic flow generally. That was a similar situation, people using the wrong lane to bypass the queue but not the source of the holdup, therefore delaying everyone in the queue. Not the same as using a rat run which bypasses the holdup and so lessens the queue. The drive-through analogy isn't quite correct - it's more like going into the restaurant, seeing a big queue, going through the drive-through instead, parking up and going back into the restaurant to eat it. They're getting the same 'service' but jumping the queue, they're not making better use of the available resources, just being totally inconsiderate.
  11. Thanks will give them a look. Do you know that they can do the aircon stuff?
  12. Hi All, We are looking for a friendly local garage who can repair and re-gas air conditioning systems. The car was serviced by the dealer recently and they advised that the condenser was leaking. A new condenser from them was hundreds but new on ebay for £45, so we have ordered that and now looking for somewhere to fit. The car also needs some simple brake line replacements, as well as an MOT. The car is a Honda Civic and we're in Walkley. Any recommendations? Cheers.
  13. No problem. You can buy by visiting them yes, but it's more of a warehouse than a shop. Best to ring first to check they have the stock and can get it ready for you.
  14. Moss Plastics have a place off Shepcote Lane, they seem to do what you're after: http://www.mossplastics.com/washers-din-125
  15. Thanks Lotti. Will see if someone knows the original breeder, we didn't get her directly from them and the previous owner has now died unfortunately. However we are planning to cross anyway and I guess the breeder would only be interested in pure rexes really. We are planning to cross as it seems better to mix up the gene pool, and pure rexes seem to have a hard time with sore hocks. We've no plans to show the kittens (or sell them for showing - v good and loving homes only!) so the buck doesn't have to be pure bred etc, just thought silver fox would make a nice mix with a black rex.
