  1. Yes, at Hallam it's 15 hours per week. Also, if you're an international student your visa may stipulate a certain amount of hours, and you legally aren't entitled to work more than that. I do believe that's just in term time though.
  2. That's awful! I wonder what goes through their minds that would make them say that, why would you do that to another person? I doubt that any talking to from the police would change them, idiots.
  3. Hahaha, who is this fool? Fancy having the time to construct that! I mean yeah, some of the big stuff is right (the Castle Market jibe is funny), but you could zoom in on any bit of any town (I'd imagine a lot more in the USA) and say negative stuff! Look, they've posted more (I'll edit the bad lang out): Flagging my post about Sheffield proves what a bunch of losers you are in that cultural backwater. You can't handle the truth! Let's face it, Sheffield doesn't even appear on half the BBC maps when showing the weather. The only news of note from there recently was about a man who was having kids by his daughters. It is an architectural desert populated by bargain-hunting, welfare-living, bus-riding bigots whose idea of quality produce is Aldi and whose idea of a good night out is to get drunk and beat the **** out of each other. Without the influx of outsiders at Sheffield University, the average IQ of the Sheffield population would be close to Neanderthal. Oh and regarding the Arctic Monkeys that some other  posted about...they are refreshing as they break the mold of the usual 'me too' pop band, but have you listened to the lyrics? They are about fighting in taxi lines, getting thrown out of clubs, people who wear tracksuit bottoms, getting drunk on Saturday nights, and generally confirming that Sheffield is a city of losers.
  4. Ooooh the link doesn't work anymore, someone has reported it! Own up, who was it????
  5. Could you provide me with a section of the community who doesn't follow a commercial trend? Students shop in these shops because the clothes are cheap, and are no longer as commercially available in normal high streets. Though it was once a 'commercial trend' you are unlikely to walk into a room and find a 3 people staring back at you wearing the same top... And yes these shops are 'designed for students', I'd imagine that is why it is strategically placed on West Street, which is quite near where a lot of students live, I believe...
  6. What?! That's awful! Have you phoned the police, surely Tesco have CCTV?
  7. No sleet in city centre, still little bits of snow. However, think it has warmed up a little as it's melting on main roads/rooftops/trees.
  8. I never know which site to trust... They all say different things. But it appears that the met office and bbc are forecasting snow for the rest of the week here (on and off), though of course it might not settle, as it seems to say it'll be around 4 degrees. I'm just not sure!
  9. Does anyone know if it's snowing in London? I've been checking the news but it's all about the North Sorry, couldn't resist...
  10. Think the guy was meaning the higher parts of the Pennines, ie in Southern Scotland, as he was waving over that area when he was talking about them, and there was a big patch of snow over that area. But it was quite ambiguous... But I'm keeping my fingers crossed for city centre snowfall! Totally agree about the southern bias, last night I clicked on a news story on the BBC about snowfall, it said "London was going to be worst hit"- I went to check the weather, cos I thought "that's rubbish"- and it was...but by the time I went to complain, they'd removed that part of the article! It was like some London journalist got a bit carried away
  11. Ok, so there is clearly some irrational thought here, and some good ones. Firstly: Please, lets try and separate protests against Israel from anti-semitism; really they are not relevant. Also, students are as varied as the general population, do not look at one and judge all. I do not like the fact that on here there seems to be some form of jealousy against students, when really they are just as diverse as everyone else. When someone on here shuns students, and makes a sweeping statement about them, they are judging 18 year olds, 30 year olds, unemployed, employed, parents and distance learners etc... Secondly: Protests are part of society, without them, countries would not be the democracies they are. Finally "The LSE will waive scholarship application fees for students affected by the conflict, help students organise a fundraising day, and donate surplus computers and books to institutions in Gaza." Source: http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2009/jan/22/studentpolitics-londonschoolofeconomics So their demands are not as outlandish as you may think. The only way to change things is to speak out, otherwise we will be a repressed society who simply sat back and watched as the world around them dissolved.
  12. I'm also looking for a good tutor, anyone else have any recommendations?
  13. Hmmm, instant coffee isn't real coffee, Americans preeetty much only drink fresh. If you want real strong coffee you need to buy fresh, it's the only way to go. Taylors of Harrogate Hot Lava Java will knock your socks off! Or nip to Caffe Nero in your lunch hour and get a double expresso
  14. That is after all what christmas is about. It's a christian festival, and this remains a christian country... I'm not religious, but Christmas is about the birth of Christ, performing a musical with santa in the title is wrong. Having said that, it's a good way of teaching kids about the second world war, but there's a time and a place...
