  1. I seem to remember that Fess Parker made a second Davy Crockett film called Davy Crockett and the River Pirates. Frightening the things one remembers.
  2. Composition or compo was and still may be a herbal cordial that was diluted with hot water for cough relief. My parents had a pub in Chesterfield during the 1960's and we sold it.
  3. The last film I saw at the Rex was Physco and although I must have seen many others there, I can't remember them. Sheffield had that many cinemas during the fifties to early sixties that it's sometimes difficult to place them.
  4. I saw quite a few films at the "Hippo" the last being Moby Dick - happy days when you had a first and second house.
  5. Can anyone tell me the name of the cinema which was in Woodhouse ? I seem to remember it was near to the stocks in the market square and its nickname was the " Stab " which I hope was short for " stable "
  6. I was in the Woodhouse boy scouts and although I can't remember the year our troop - three members - did a small play about St. George at the Montgomery Hall
  7. I seem to remember being caned on a daily basis - going to school in the 1950's and very early 60's ( left school in 1961 ) it wasn't uncommon. Whilst it did me no harm it didn't do me much good either.
  8. I think it is. I also remember a coffee bar almost opposite called the Flamingo. Anybody remember the El Mambo coffee bar.
  9. I remember seeing " The Hound of the Baskervilles " starring Peter Cushing as Holmes and ( I think ) Nigel Stock as Watson. Does anybody remember a nearby temperence bar?
  10. I remember a bowling green and a small kiosk selling soft drinks, sweets etc. run by , I think , people called Vipond. I visited Sheffield last year and took a bus ride to that area and couldn't believe how much it had changed.
  11. Although I lived in Stradbroke I went to Woodhouse west end school and then Rowlinson's
  12. She was invited to a White House dinner ( only once ) where she heavily criticised the President over U.S. involvement in Vietnam. What a woman !!
  13. I lived in Stradbroke ( Smelterwood crescent ) between those dates would like to hear from anybody who remembers those times. Rod
  14. I think Forrest Gump - with its racism ( one retarded white American shows simple "plantation ******" how to run a business) and the message that all people who opposed the Vietnam war were waste of space junkies - makes it to the bottom ten worst films of all time. I'm still working on the other nine. regards Rod
  15. I remember Mr. Beeston ( Cocky ) who didn't like using the cane and Miss Richardson ( Nora ) Mr. Wallace ( Edgar ) my favourite Mr Thorpe - I can't remember a nickname but when he taught my class there were 52 children in it and - I may be wrong - but I think Mr Vaughan's nickname was Ragman. I'm not sure about Jaqueline Hardy's accident - but it stirs a memory
