  1. Its always difficult to apportion blame but I think common sense should apply to lights in certain conditions even prior to "lighting up" time. If visibility is reduced then lights should be used by all road users, and asmentioned ones that can be seen:confused: I really hope the woman is OK and the driver too and that this thread does not turn into the anti cyclist, anti car driver that it usually prompts. The positive for this thread is that I rode a number of miles today and did not have any issues with any drivers nor any drivers with me:)
  2. recently found this thread so apologies if names are repeated but, Fothergills, Stones, Robinsons, Walch's and not forgetting the two families that bought their houses on Daffodil Road, the Robinsons and Hollingworths? There was also the Rennie family that lived there a short time at 56 Daffodil Road. There was also the Rowdin(g) family and many other families whose names I cannot recall. Carol, I remember your family very well, all of them. I remember the Warehams. There was the Bollingtons, Favels and Greens on Bluebell Road. So many memories of living on the estate. Remember the family that had the embarassment of being sent to bed very early every night, lived at 54 Daffodil Road, thats me!! or one of them. Not much left of this side of the estate but still memorable families over near what was Shiregreen School.
  3. Info for forum users. :thumbsup:It appears there is a speed camera being installed on Chesterfield Road South, on the into city side of the carriageway. You should see it as you come off the roundabout at Bowshaw.
  4. A very good point randydave, it is more noticeable when you are on the bike. I think I started the usual anti cyclist brigade comments but it was good to see more positive comments in this thread than negative. The experiences on my bike will not stop me from riding in and around Sheffield. Interesting link re SYP in an earlier comment and the intention to deal with ctyclists near Christmas!!!!. Think I have seen a few PCSO's on bikes on the pavement!!!
  5. then lets hope he was caught and punished accordingly
  6. Agreed, you have no worries, he hit a parked vehicle, there seems to be no requirement for your vehicle to be lit (parked on road over 30mph), could be classed as private car park but remember the pub was open and therefore the carpark is open to the public. You do not have anything to worry about at all, in my experience the driver may be trying to divert attention away from himself. Had he been drinking, is he insured!!!!
  7. It seems that i am the victim of the age old problem of being tarred with the same brush as the idiot we have all met. Never mind i now feel much better at having let off steam and seen support and criticism. Maybe I should just wear brighter clothing and choose my times out on the bike a bit better.
  8. Get back on your bike Whatif wewin (I have not cycled for over a year since I was pushed into a kerb by a bus.) i returned very quickly after being hit by a motorist towing a caravan and it was the caravan that made contact with a delicate part of my anatomy!!! I am in total agreement with you in that we should all be more considerate to all road user and pedestrians alike and surely this would make for a better and brighter time on the roads.
  9. just as I thought, the cyclists are law breakers response. Just to set the record straight, I do not contravene red lights, I do not ride on the pavement, I give precedence to people on crossings, I do not think I break the speed limit but the thought is good! and I do have car and pay road tax. I think that should cover most responses, I am not saying that my cycling is perfect but then neither are drivers or the roads.
  10. Never thought as myself as an "outsider" but I do see your point:), however I do not consider myself to be an aggressive rider and I feel that I am considerate when out riding. All I ask is that drivers of motor vehicles, even in rush hour, consider that cyclists are also maybe just trying to get home.
  11. I remember recently there was a rather long thread regarding cyclists in Sheffield so forgive me for starting again. This is my first posting on the forum and unfortunately it starts with a moan. I have just returned from a bike ride in Sheffield during which I have been "cut up", pushed into the kerb, overtaken by drivers with no spacial awareness, (you know who you were at the top of Prince of Wales road), and finally there was the older gent who just pulled out from a roundabout forcing me to brake hard and take evasive action. Am I the only person that encounters these drivers?. All I ask is that drivers have a little awareness of the vulnerability of cyclists. (now gets ready for the onslought of anti cyclist replies).
