  1. No worries haha.. The OP was claiming that the complaints of a Shisha bar were racially motivated that's where it came from i think!
  2. Funny how you say that but lets say if this thread went by and it was actually related to race then how would it be put out there? A perfect example is i'm a White male born in Sheffield. Me and my friend have the same IT qualifications, did the same courses and are both presentable. He came from Kosovo and doesn't have a British name... He's found it incredibly hard to get jobs, even interviews whereas I've had them thrown at me. Discrimination is still ripe throughout the world even in the current age and with laws in place. You can't tell me that the law provides equality to all when it doesn't. The way drug addicts are still arrested rather than being given the help and support demonstrates this. I agree race should never come into it but what's the harm talking about it. It's not like racists don't exist in this world? I don't think the OP wanted to create anti socialistic segregation but more to cause a commotion and provoke debate. There should be more people that are willing to look at the wider picture...
  3. I see what your saying but a man playing an acoustic guitar isn't louder than 5 men playing electric guitars with amps. If it was next to say that horrible Spanish place, They have a sound system which plays music on to the street.. Why aren't people complaining about that which is currently there, If anything they're causing the noise issues. Like the example i used earlier if it was a club with a 4k watt sound system playing Drum and Bass then that would obviously create a noise problem. Just because it's another socialising place doesn't mean that the amount of db will increase, On Eccy Road businesses come and go, It'll just be replacing something that was there before. It would most likely be drowned out by the other places that are full of drunk lary people smashing glasses in the beer garden behind Nursery Tav. If anything people should be complaining about the right things and not kicking sideways. Like i said earlier Broomhill's a shame and it's been taken over by horrible capitalistic chains that made Williamsons Hardware close. Taco Bell opening on Ecclesall Road is just a sign of things to come. People should be happy that an independent business is buying it and not another chain. ---------- Post added 10-10-2014 at 13:51 ---------- Quite right, They're all above a giant Wetherspoons now but they must be soundproofed because it's loud as **** on Friday/Saturday nights till like 12/1ish.
  4. The OP said it. I just explained the logic to what he said. Not necessarily but some of the people that voted against it might of had ulterior motives. I mean if there's no valid opposing factors and the fact that I've never heard a complaint about a new pub, restaurant opening or Taco Bell opening then what's wrong with a Shisha Bar? If people don't think logically then they're probably close minded dribblers that read the Daily Mail. I admit the jump of THEY MUST BE RACIST isn't logical but i'm saying i can't see a valid point against a Shisha bar.
  5. How can you object on the basis of noise when it would produce less noise that the current establishment's, If it replaced for instance Varisity it'd most likely decrease the noise in the area. As it stands it's a loud street even in the week. A Shisha bar isn't any louder than a pub/bar in fact it's more likely to be quiet because it won't be full of drunk dribblers. You're not making sense. How would a Shisha bar on Eccy Road increase people socializing near their homes? It's not the people who have smoked Shisha are going to come out high and come into your front garden... People that have been to the pub are more likely to do that! Location wise it's not going to be next to or even in 100m of any houses i'm pretty sure. Have you ever been on Ecclesall Road? It's not residential the whole road is full of bars, pubs and club... If the Shisha bar was say a house being converted to a bar on a residential road then yes but it's set to be on Eccy Road which isn't quiet and people are saying it'll be at the bottom where there isn't anything besides the old brewery. What are you on about? Mudcrab has outdoor seating on the road, Nursery tavern has a huge outdoor beer garden which is always louds as **** and backs onto houses, What was champs has outdoor seating on the front. That horrible Spanish place where all the old handbag like woman/cheap suit men go is always playing music out on the street and has people on the front??? You obviously never go down Ecclesall Road on a Friday night.. It's full of drunk loud people soicalising. And now the students are back it's even louder. Sound isn't a problem so what is your problem?
  6. Ron Jeremy's a regular at Menzels? I would say that surprises me but then again 90% of the clientele remind me of him.
  7. Well the OP got the thread going didn't he. There may be other factors to consider but someone had to put that factor out there. Never heard any other complaints about things on Ecclesall Road besides the Pointing Dog where people were like "TESCO SHUTS EVERY SHOP". Which is true they do but it actually turned out to be a small chain run bar lol.
  8. Okay it was a bad thread to start out with. The headline seems like that of something which is from the "Daily Mail". Maybe it is just to maintain the "Poshness". Which in my opinion is still discrimination and just as bad... The people that have that mentality probably are the sort of people that look down at people who shop in Aldi. I would of loved to see what peoples arguments against it were in the meeting.
  9. Well the OP was making the connection, I was just explaining the logic behind it. I can't see any valid reasons against it, You say "yet another cafe, pub, bar, smoking place etc and think its going to increase noise? or say that people are saying that. It wouldn't make an increase of noise. If a new Drum and Bass bar was opening with a 5k watt sound system that would make an increase but a bar where people smoke will not add any extra volume levels will it? Do you think people that smoke Shisha are louder than people that drink outside bars/pubs? If you do i'd like you to explain how? You can't say that the noise levels will increase if say one restaurant is quiet producing 10db and another across the road is loud producing 100db. It's not like the one producing 10db is causing or adding much to the problem. I'm making assumptions based on the fact there is no valid reason to oppose something like this. There's more reasons to be against a horrible capitalistic chain like Taco bell which has recently popped up than a Shisha bar. It just sounds like an excuse to me... Why aren't the people complaining about the current pubs/bars which obviously do/will generate louder sound levels than a Shisha bar????
  10. Yeah that's definitely it but lets have a look at the establishments that are on there already. Bear in mind i grew up and lived in Fulwood most my life so i know all about people that have the attitude of prestige in their head/their heads stuck up their bum. Taco Bell, Subway, Cheap pubs/bars with £1 shots, Berkley Precinct (Horrible Eyesore full of chains). I don't understand how some people can be so close minded and deluded.
  11. My view is that there isn't really an argument against it? Why do you think people would kick up a fuss besides the fact it's a ethnic practice which has become more popular in Western Europe in the last 20 years. Noise issues are invalid, Passive smoking is invalid.. Sort of. If people think that people smoking Shisha are going to be louder than students downing JagerBombs and acting like ***** then they're out of touch with reality. The only thing i can think is that people are looking at the ones on London Road/Curry mile and assuming that one on Ecclesall Road would bring in their opinion the "wrong" demographic to Ecclesall Road
  12. Yeah that did cross my mind. There are a lot of ignorant people not making the connection.. The thing is i reckon with it being on Eccy Road it'd probably attract a wide variety of clients. Students, local residents, people who go out for food/drink on Eccy Rd regularly. With the ones you're probably referring to on London Road/Curry Mile in Manchester, They only attract the local demographic and even the one's on London Road attracted multiple heritages to it. No matter what happens Eccy Road won't change, Noise wont be any higher than it is now with the amount of bars and restaurants. The only stupid thing is Shisha is just as bad if not worse for you than tobacco, Yes you can buy it without nicotine but nicotine isn't the thing which is bad for you when your smoking. I've got a Shisha at home and use it every now and then.. If there was a Shisha bar on Eccy Road i'd probably visit but.... Is it healthy no.. They should get planning permissions for a Amsterdam style coffee shop that would be much better. Just to add i much rather there be a Shisha place on Eccy Road than a Capitalistic chain like Taco Bell. It's a real shame what happened to Broomhill. ---------- Post added 09-10-2014 at 15:39 ---------- So can you explain how this will make any increase to noise considering the amount of bars/restaurants that are currently on Eccy Road. More so the ones that already have outdoor seating i.e. Mudcrab, Pointing Dog, Weatherspoons, Nursery Tavern. The answer is it wont. People like to be social, If you want to stay in the warm of your home and not see anyone that's down to you. ---------- Post added 09-10-2014 at 15:40 ---------- So can you explain how this will make any increase to noise considering the amount of bars/restaurants that are currently on Eccy Road. More so the ones that already have outdoor seating i.e. Mudcrab, Pointing Dog, Weatherspoons, Nursery Tavern. If they have the same opening hours, Are in a location further away from residential housing (At the bottom of Eccy Rd) then it won't increase any noise pollution will it...
  13. What a vague thread.. Please divulge.
  14. If you're going to try and suggest me something at least spell the word right. This forum's full of dribblers. Maybe you should "surgest" yourself to a dictionary Also i'm sure there's a difference between the sulfur that comes from eggs and the sulfur that's getting sprayed onto your capillaries from sucking on a Racing Grade NOS tank. Close the door on your way out.
