  1. That really does sound like a fantastic day Mr Bloom! So far I have wake up about 8am after a really good nights sleep. Drive into town with the Mrs for breakfast and head for Tamper Coffee, Sellers Wheel for a lovely breakfast and amazing coffee. Head to my parents and get our dog, take him for a walk around either Rivelin or Forge Dam then off to Our Cow Molly for ice cream. Then drop the pooch off at home and head back into town by tram for a late afternoon film at The Showroom. Walk upto Broomhill stopping off at The Devonshire Cat for a pint. Then steak or ribs for tea at La Vaca and drinks at The York.
  2. Describe your perfect day in the city/region Only rules are you have to stay within the county & you can't spend more than £100 (I'm sure for many the perfect day would be to go buy a new car, house etc but not realistic). Discuss..................
  3. Very necessary for some people *Short of bin space with now fortnightly collections for general waste and no gardening waste collection unless your willing to/can afford the extra cost for collection of the green bin. * May not have a vehicle to take a large amount of waste to the tip * I'd rather someone burn it than flytip
  4. Try:- http://www.sheffieldhelpyourself.org.uk/keyword_search.asp?keyword=direct+payments+-+employ+pa They companies could help you with recruiting a PA. Or you could advertise independently in your local post office, supermarket etc
  5. My only other suggestion would be if your son is now having to pay for this with money he doesn't have as like you say the mobility cash is already accounted for in the finance package on the vehicle. IF therefore he is now financially struggling I'd encourage him to request a reassessment re his financial contribution. As he may now have disability related expenses (DRE's) he MAY be judged as having less available spare income and his upper limit (the max he's judged as being able to afford) MAY be lower. Best of luck with everything
  6. Good shout Re the Division street suggestion, anyone know where on Division St this store is? Thank You
  7. I'd say SCC are at a point now where they have no option but listen to suggestions. And if we the citizens if Sheffield and the council don't come up with sensible ideas to save 77M we'll feel the affects in our local communities. So lets hear the ideas for saving thousands and millions and I'm sure someone in SCC will view this thread
  8. We see suggestion on her that business rates in Sheffield are already too high for companies and small traders, if the council raise rates at an extreme level surely they'll just be criticised further for aidingt he deterioration of the city centre? Though I agree the realistic way forward is to generate more income though does anyone have any good suggestions as to how the council realistically does this. With regards increasing income I forsee a 1.99% raise in council tax anything 2% or above forces a referendum as far as I'm aware.
  9. I would've thought these items have been thrown out as many council buildings are ridding themselves of spaces to store ring binders etc and storing more and more information electronically. Then there is a cost saving as there is more space within the building hence they can put more people into the building they are keeping and not renew leases on building where lease contracts are coming to an end. So in reality they may actually be saving money by skipping these old office items and putting more staff into remaining buildings. As I say 77M to be saved lets see if with comments submiited if we can do the council job and logically save 10% of that, £7,700,000
  10. This has been discussed many a time on here and there seems to be many myths around what councillors get. They get 12k a year, like other council employees they'll be able to claim 45pence for work related mileage and like other council employees I expect they don't get food and drink unless they purchase it. I have a close friend who works for the council, the perks have gone. Years ago like in private businesses there would be service meetings and staff would get tea and coffee at the town hall. Now they no longer even get this great perk so there is very little for saving when it comes to slashing the 'perks'.
  11. I think the information is quite clear there is a 77M budget gap in the next 2 years!! Very scary and were going to need to cut more a few hundred from any expenses councillors get. Realistically where do you possibly feel this money can be saved? Which services do you feel can be cut and are there any services which the council could stop funding and the communities provide the service. Let's get real this funding gap can't be met by ridding consultants or shaving money from councillors expenses (those this would help). This lack of funds I imagine will affect everyone whether it be via raised council taxes in an attempt to raise some vital funds or serious impacts to childrens and vulnerable adults services. Given the huge amount to be saved, I imagine every department with have to face cuts I have friends/relatives receiving social care services spend is already scrutinesed to the £. So I'm very interested to hear everyone's thoughts on how 77M can be cut. One question we'll all need to ask ourselves moving forward is 'What do I do for my community'. We'll all need to chip in in my opinion whether it be visiting your elderley neighbour for 10 mins every day/an hour a week as the council will be struggling to pay for befriending services and the voluntary sector are struggling for grants. Cooking an extra meal and taking it to your neighbour if they have a disability. As the council carers may get more pressure to see more people spending less time with people to make 'real food'. I know people who've worked for Care agencies. They have staff who are completing older people's shopping which is something everyone needs. But if these older people had their neighbour doing the shopping when the neighbour did their own this could save the council paying the care agency to do this. Could you offer to do this for an elderley or disabled neighbour? A lack of childrens centre, playgroups etc. Could you look after a friends child, set up a rota etc for you looking after theirs and them taking care of yours. A lack of funding for parks, can you join or form a 'Friends' group for your local park. The council may struggle to maintain the parks and they'll be a lack of investment. Could you join in and maintain the flowerbeds, cut the hedges, be a member of the group and seek funding for kids playground equipment etc. Many here complain about the council but the reality is moving forward Sheffield will only be the place we want it to be if we all chip in.
  12. Hi Ghozer, Hopefully your through your tough spell and things are a little better. My suggestion in addition to what people have already written would be to scour the edges of your local parks/nature walks. Currently it is a great time for blackberries (you'll find them on brambles, given the council haven't cut the parks back as much there are even more about this year) I've picked lots recently and made crumbles. You don't necessarily have to do a crumble which can end up being expensiveish if you don't already have already the ingredients but you could just use the fruit as free snacking food.
  13. Thank you for the suggestion however it is my colleagues last day on Friday. We'd seen something we were going to get on charities website but they are out of stock so we want to try and buy something locally if possible.
  14. Hi, My workplace had been planning to buy my colleague some jewellery as a leaving gift. We'd prefer to get a fairtrade product due to her particular interests, can anyone please recommend anywhere? Thank You
  15. Have you written the Support Plan yourself or have you used an Independent Planner? Either alter yourself or ask whoever has written the plan for you to add that the mobility allowance you son receives is already accounted for in paying for his wheelchair vehicle. Therefore you need to use his indicative social care budget to meet eligible needs. Or the alternative would be to ask yourselves with the mobility allowance your son gets you pay for a wheelchair vehicle could this not be used to transport him to the places within his support plan. If not why not and therefore this should evidence the need/reason for the request. Also include what are the risks to your son's independence if the support plan is not agreed.
  16. It's worth considering the cost though, I can't remember the exactly weekly cost in Cairn but it is significantly over the council's funding level for. So if you are looking for care home for your grandafther to be funded via the local authority bare in mind if you choose Cairn or others aboce the local authority funding lvel you would have a hefty top up to pay each week. If your grandfather/family have personal finance to pay for this long term then cost may not be a concern. To add does your grandfather want to go into residential care?
  17. It depends on your situation, if your were going as the designated driver I'd not be impressed you didn't drink as it woudl just be what I'd expect of you. Whereas if your a recovering alcoholic I'd be very impressed. Q. On a scale of 1-10 how yellow are you teeth, 1 being as white as the day they sprouted 10 being a freshly opened tin of sweetcorn.
  18. Maybe we should have an aprtheid like system in supermarkets. An entrance for employed folk who have to produce a wage slip and a back entrance for those on benefits. All the reduced products could go to the welfare section of the supermarket for the unfortunate to scramble for. What a beautiful society that'd be eh
  19. Do you mean will they be given new jobs? Or are you afraid the DVS employess will be chained to their desks and have a fight for their lives once the bulldozers come?
  20. Though as much as it is a shame the eagles won't have a 10,000 seater home (which will never get filled) it's all well and good the commentators on Sky making such comments but there far removed from having to make choices as to whether to keep a sports facility open or cut the budget in another department by an additional 500k a year. There has been a council tax freeze for a couple of years now the best way to judge if the people of the city really care enough to keep DVS open would be to ask if we'd cover the 500k through council tax. Maybe if everyone paid another 50p a month there would be enough raised to support services which people claim are vital to this city and their lives. But whilever there are cuts and a freeze in council tax these situations are inevitable.
  21. I tried Butterworth's once, they did do a good job but it was quite expensive though probably worth it as at the time I had quite an expensive road bike. But if you have a fairly standard bike going to such a specialist as Butterworth's might not be necessary. Decathlon do repairs and I can imagine they're competitively priced try them if cost is important to you, or just go to Butterworth if your looking for convenience.
  22. Huxley, You need to go through the lady's GP as an occupational therapist will then assess and provide a frame if appropriate.
