  4. I bought my dinning suite and lounge furniture and carpet from Ponsfords when I married in 1961. Ercol Dinning table and chairs and a G-plan unit settee. The carpet was still going strong 30 years later and table and chairs were quite recently used at my brothers place, made of solid wood oak and elm they were made to last. hazel

  9. I have really enjoyed this thread. It took me back to the days of pantomimes, paid 1/6p to sit in the gallery with the actors looking so small because they were so far away. Also saw Shakespeare at the theatre to help with O levels but think that was at the Lyceumn, I remember queueing at the back, there was a sweetshop nearby which I think was Dainties. I used to see Johnny Spitzer sitting in a box at the Empire always with beautiful girls. hazel

  11. I'm not sure of which gender you are so I'm thinking the winkings on par with the male sex amd so I'd expect you to carry on drinking at the bar hazel

  16. The idea of this thread is to compose in your head a verse with 5 lines 2/2/3 of which rhymes so easy to be misled hazel
  17. Bread machiines are quite the thing put in the ingredients that will bring the bread to rise oh what a surprise when at the end we hear a ping perhaps Acorn forgot the yeast this is the part that has the least chance of the dough rising and so no bread to add to the feast hazel
  18. I used to visit an aunt who had a cupboard by the side of the fireplace full of books and comics. I used to put the comics in order and have a mamoth reading of Wilson, My Hero, who ran up and down mountains with bare feet in the snow, dressed only in a black tunic, who could play football etc and win matches because of his superier training. About the same time I discovered Biggles. hazel

  20. Wasn't there a pikelet shop on Division St. After school we used to stand and watch them being made and then eat them while still hot. Hi Poppins hazel
  21. I can't remember the interest given, the only reason I joined that bank was the interest I had in one of the bank clerks. Never did catch his eye though. hazel
  22. Further on from the Union Picture House on the opposite side of the street was the Empire Theatre. Not sure if this is still Union St or not hazel
  23. There was a resaurant called Hudsons at the top of Norfolk St or perhaps just round the corner into Surry St. hazel
  24. The bank at the top of Norfolk St was Sheffield Savings Bank. I opened an account in about 1956, Later to be TSB. The Mulberry Pub was there, entrance on Mulberry St, The clinic was not there until later around early 70's hazel
