  1. Yes One of Sheffield's busiest roads in rush hour. Cyclists slowing down traffic. You seem somewhat unimpressed with the cycle lane on Penistone Road, is that because cyclists need to slow down for pedestrians? Element of hypocrisy if so. ---------- Post added 19-01-2017 at 07:02 ---------- That makes absolutely no sense. By that logic you should be in a velodrome and not on the roads at all.
  2. I was about to start the same thread as this. A stupid cyclist was on Penistone Road earlier today. There's a bloody cycle lane made especially for you, stop being selfish and flipping use it.
  3. Didn't hear it personally. Maybe it was a freight train?
  4. I don't think anyone knows, hopefully it'll be a Sainsburys though as originally planned. The traffic will be slightly worse but if that was used as a reason not to build then nothing would ever be built.
  5. So work is ongoing on this site and the pub is bye byes, does anyone know what they're actually doing then?
  6. Oh god what an awful situation. Thanks for starting a thread to warn other people.
  7. We getting a sainsburys then? Or Tesco? Either way its great news.
  8. Some comments to your points. "Hillsborough/Wadsley Bridge/Oughtibridge/Deepcar/Stocksbridge - line is single track and freight only. Would cost a hell of a lot to restore line back to acceptable grade." Its already been costed at £4m to open up the line to Stocksbridge, great if it goes ahead but seems silly not to open up other stations on the route if it does. Especially with all the money spent on Penistone Road. "Ecclesfield - Not far from Chapeltown station." But not walking distance for most, hence the added travel time to Chapeltown station would probably cut out the time saved. A station in Ecclesfield would make the train much more appealing than it is now. "Millhouses - Dore and Totley station isnt too far away" But again at the mercy of a long walk / bus journey etc, similar points to above. "Beighton/Killamarsh/Renishaw/Halfway/Eckington/Treeton - On the "Old Road" freight line which doesnt go anywhere near Sheffield city centre. Will have a freight timetable which may not have many spaces for passenger services." Treeton is on a different line so take your point on that but Beighton junction is where the lines separate, one of the lines goes to Sheffield Centre and all the other stations I mentioned are before Beighton, hence could use this line. I think this is the old GCR. This line was used for the London service earlier this year when there was damage on the midland route through Dronfield. "Attercliffe/Tinsley - on a single track freight line. Already on tram network (or very near to it) with trams every 10 minutes or there abouts" Actually agree with this as the trams are grade separate from Meadowhall.
  9. Posted this on Owlstalk previously but its probably more appropriate for here. After queuing in traffic on Penistone Road lately, for what seems a large portion of my life! I wonder sometimes why Sheffield doesn't make more of its railway lines that run throughout the city, like it seems other cities do. Of the top of my head we only have stations at Meadowhall, Chapeltown, Dore, Darnall and Woodhouse. But these lines run through countless other areas in Sheffield and surrounding areas - Hillsborough / Wadsley Bridge, Oughtibridge, Deepcar, Stockbridge, Ecclesfield, Millhouses, Beighton, Killamarsh, Renishaw, Halfway, Eckington, Attercliffe, Treeton, Tinsley and no doubt many more. The council want to attract more people onto public transport but buses and trams are so slow and in many areas the trams run on the roads anyway so are at the mercy of traffic. The three lines I can think of run similar routes to Abbeydale Road, Penistone Road and the Parkway - all of which are probably the most congested roads in the city. I'm by no means an expert on this matter and happy to be corrected but surely a cheap-ish option to alleviate congestion would be to build and in many cases re-build stations on existing lines to create a direct, quick, grade separate route into Sheffield centre.
  10. Some roadworks ongoing at the roundabout, I've looked online and its says the works are 'preparation' for some proposed major junction improvement scheme. Can't find anything on the improvements, any ideas?
  11. Recently moved to S35 from S20 and struggling to find a decent all weather running route which isn't a) next to a main road or b) through a housing estate c) through muddy fields. In S20 we have Rother Valley and the Trans Pennine Trail which are great for all weather running, not found anything as good as this in S35. Any ideas?
  12. Yea you want to be careful at Rother Valley, its a haven for crime. The other week my car was stolen there whilst I was still driving it, one minute I'm peacefully driving past the golf course and the next poof! I'm sat at the side of the road. I blame the ducks, they never seem happy when they have to move for me, and don't get me started on the sheep. Yeah you should all stay well clear if you value your lives.
  13. Not sure if it was ever a scrap yard. Are you thinking of Beighton? The old central railway station. Now part of the trans pennine trail. The original structure was still there albeit quarantined. 100+ yo building completely flattened.
