  1. You will not get free childcare anywhere for under twos as far as I know. Free childcare that is widely available is the 2 Year FEL (Free Early Learning) which is available to some families but not all, depends on your circumstances Taken from Sheffield City Council: "Eligibility To get a free place your family must receive one or more of the following: Income Support; Income based Jobseekers Allowance; Income related Employment and Support Allowance; Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999; The guarantee element of the State Pension Credit; Child Tax Credit, provided you are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income that does not exceed £16,190 (as assessed by HM Revenue & Customs). Children can also have a free place if they are cared for by ourselves. " 3 Year FEL which is available to all children the term after their third birthday and is for 15 hours a week. Hope this helps.
  2. I can highly recommend children 1st and Sunshine Day nursery on beech hill road, as well as old school house in crosspool and the one at endcliffe rise I don't recommend Beech Hill Nursery on beech hill road- awful place
  3. I am looking for somewhere to rent a christmas tree, for people who don't know, it is a real christmas tree in a pot that you "borrow" for the christmas season, take it back and it gets replanted. So far I have tried Heeley City Farm, but they have sold out, Ecclesall Woods but they aren't doing them to replant, and Avid Farm Shop which is my only option so far, Does anyone know of any other places doing this type of scheme?
  4. Children 1st @ Breedon House, Scotland Street in Town. I couldn't recommend their baby room enough, excellent staff in place with lots of experience, take babies from 6 weeks and really can't do enough for your baby.
  5. I've done volunteer work at Beech Hill and would avoid it like the plague, it's an awful place! Had good experiences at The Old School House on Endcliffe Rise Road, Children 1st @ breedon house (very good baby room) and sunshine day Nursery on beech hill road.
  6. E-dance ran by Charlie at St Andrews Psalter lane church on a Friday is very good. She does 2 classes 9:30 & 10:30 on a friday £4 a time. Google e-dance for info
  7. We got vinyl stickers from http://www.nametapes.com.au and they have been fantastic, they stick on clothes, plastic, metal and wood and ours have been going in the dishwasher and washing machine daily since September and are still on there looking new
  8. We attend e-dance sessions run by a lady called Charlie and they are fantastic. There website is http://www.e-dance.net
  9. There are two branches of the nursery one at NGH and one at RHH (behind Jessop wing) the child care services manager can help with both sites it's just she's based at NGH
  10. Have you discussed your issues with the childcare services manager? She is there to help you work out a childcare plan for your children to enable you to work or train. Call the NGH switch board on 2434343 and ask to be put through to CHRIS WALLIS at SUNSHINE DAY NURSERY she was fantastic when I was doing my training and struggling to negotiate child care. Hope that helps

  13. The law states that children under 12 or a certain height have to have the correct safety seats in cars. Given the children's age i would imagine they would all be fine on booster seats for the day, you can pick the basic versions of these (complying with the law) for dead cheap, pretty sure i've seen them in Halfords for £5 each? I know its an added expense but may be worth it so you can go for the day? edit to add: booster seats in halfords for under a fiver http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/categorydisplay_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_categoryId_165554_langId_-1
  14. I don't think its right, but if you want confusing listen to this: I went to school with a girl whose parents split. Her mum who had 3 children (1 daughter, 2 sons) remarried a man who had a daughter. The daughters of the new family were both called Amy so you used to have to refer to them as Amy-Kate and Amy-Rachel, which were their middle names. To make it more confusing the new husband adopted his new wifes kids so there were two Amy Williams (not their real last name) living under the same roof!
  15. We hav a Stage 2 carseat (Britax) and our 2 and 4 year old fit in this fine. The 4 year old does have to have the harness on the loosest it will go though. We also have a Graco highback booster seat that our 4 year old has been in for a year, he was undoing the straps on his carseat so tried him in a booster and he sits really well in it. The children were involved in a serious car accident on the motorway last year (age 3 &1) they were in the Graco high back booster and the Britax stage 2, both of them came out of it without a scratch on them and the attending officer said it was due to the car seats which provided the best protection for them. Nothing has ever been said to us that we are using the incorrect carseats, neither by the police or by the people at Halfords when we replaced them after the accident. WHen we went to replace the car seats we got a Britax high back booster stage 2 with a harness that goes from 9 months-11years. The harness on this is slightly bigger than on the Britax stage 2 and we still have loads of room in it. We paid £45 for the Britax car seat and £28 for the Graco high back booster in the sale from Halfords. We also got a new Britax stage 2 car seat for £60 so all in all we got 4 car seats (2 cars) for under £200! Bargins!!!
