  1. I walked down the aisle to Black Sabbath's Fluff. Not sure it really fits with what everyone else has been suggesting! However, having said that it is the total opposite of what most people imagine when they think of Black Sabbath. I had difficultly in choosing as I'm not exactly traditional, I got married in dark purple and my bridesmaids were in lime green. Me and my husband don't really like love songs, but the lyrics to the songs we do like aren't really what you would want walking down the aisle. That's why we choose something instrumental.
  2. I did life drawing at Norton College (during the day though) plus this was 10 years ago. But might be worth seeing if the Sheffield College do some evening classes?
  3. I second the idea of going with a simple design. You might have to make 50, 100, 150 cards. Plus matching reply cards, orders of service etc. You could trying looking on YouTube, I was watching someone the other day making greetings cards, I'm sure they must be someone who shows how to make a wedding invitation.
  4. The British Heart Foundation have heart badges, keyrings etc that you can use as wedding favours: http://giftshop.bhf.org.uk/wedding/wedding-ideas/wedding-favours.html It says on the Macmillan site says that the fund raising offices can help with "branded merchandise to use as wedding favours, place cards, collections and much more." The site also has templates for printing leaflets, invites, etc with their branding. Maybe you could use one of the templates as a card to explain that you are giving the favour money to charity. http://be.macmillan.org.uk/be/s-1-make-your-own.aspx
  5. Most wedding fayres don't charge you to get in. Tried Googling it as well and I can't find anything about whether it is free to get in or not. The wedding fayres I have been to allow children, so I can't see why they wouldn't.
  6. Did you buy it on a credit card? If so you can claim the money back from the credit card company if the transaction if over £100 (I assume it is with it being a wedding dress!). See Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974.
  7. You can buy them from a wedding stationer or make them yourself. The first page contains Bride and Groom's names, wedding date, church name. Then the rest of the pages contains hymns, prayers, readings, signing of the register, etc in the order that they will happen.
  8. Found one burgundy and silver wedding invite here: http://shop.confetti.co.uk/product/stardust-single-wedding-invitation-burgundy/100745/

  11. Are you wanting to set the website up yourself? Or looking to pay someone else do it? If it is the latter then there are plenty of web designers on this forum or you can use google to find lots more. Maybe you could give a bit more information on what you are wanting to know? If you can tell us a bit about your business that might help.
  12. Agree with Indizine that it needs to be in another colour, the right shade of green or blue (or a combination of the two) would be much more soothing. In regards to the type overlapping, yes it does in Firefox. Checked it in Internet Explorer 8 and its fine. I think the list of corporate clients is too much, as mentioned above perhaps put them on a separate page. Also reduce the list, there are just too many to read through.
  13. You could make three sided table numbers, so that they stand up on their own. This website shows you how to make them: http://diy.weddingbee.com/topic/mrs-cherry-blossoms-table-number-tent-template-1 They look a bit flimsy in the photos, but if you use thick card they will look a lot better. I've made them myself before, although not by following the instructions on that website. There is also a PowerPoint template you can download from the site.
  14. Is there anything particular you are looking for? Are you wanting your own design printed or to purchase pre-designed wedding invitations? There are all sorts businesses that supply them. Local printing companies will usually have wedding stationery albums for you to look through. Same for department stores, like John Lewis. You could try visiting a few wedding fayres, they usually be at least one wedding stationer at each fayre if not more. Most of these are handmade stationers but you do get some that supply printed wedding invites.
  15. We now supply BelArto Wedding Stationery at a discount of 15% off the RRP. 16. Hi, I am wondering if anyone has got any advice on how to get some Graphic Design work experience? I've had a week of work experience earlier this year and I ended up getting paid for it, although I wasn't expecting to, so I must have done a decent job. But that has been it. I graduated a while ago (2003) so I know this is probably helping to hold me back. When I first finished college I contacted many companies and did get interviews but nothing materialised. Eventually I ended up working in Customer Services. However, I left and became a self-employed wedding stationer and I also do some web design work. I recently had an interview for a Junior Graphic Designer position and was told the reason for me not getting the job is the lack of experience in InDesign. This is something I can remedy but I think there is something else, although I don't know what. I have contacted many companies and sent examples of my work but this has resulted in nothing. It could just be the economic climate. Maybe the fact that I am competing with recent graduates. There could be something wrong with my portfolio. I'm just not sure what the problem is. I have looked for volunteer work for charities. However, the voluntary jobs for design work that I have seen require the volunteers to be aged 16-25 and I'm 26. Anyone have any advice?
  17. Try http://www.richsmithillustration.com/ Rich does caricatures for some of the wedding invites we sell but he is also going to be an entertainer at our wedding next year.
  18. Bride and Groom Direct do some: http://www.brideandgroomdirect.co.uk/CasPage1.cfm?Format=STDCasEnsBGUK (they're near the bottom of the page)
  19. I agree with go4it there are a lot of people selling handmade cards. However, it doesn't mean they are all good at it. I would stay away from kit style cards that places like QVC sell as anyone can make them. I would try doing something a little different. Why not check out Christmas, craft and wedding fayres? You can see what everyone else is doing. Then try to think of something that you could make unique about yours. I can't say about Christmas cards, but I can say about wedding invitations. There are certain styles of cards that a large amount of handmade stationers produce. One example I can think of is cards with feathers on. Usually a single feather with the words “wedding invitation” at the bottom of the card. I'm not saying that the cards are bad but they are very common. If you go for something different you will have a unique selling point. For me the ones that are a little different stand out the most and catch my eye. I find this with customers also. When I exhibit at wedding fayres the unusual designs get attention and get talked about. Even if in the end they decide not to buy them and go for a traditional design, at least it got them looking. You could try small independent shops, they might be interested in selling them. If you were to do wedding stationery some bridal shops might be want to supply them as a side-line.
  20. You can get personalised ones from Fine Impressions: http://www.fine-impressions.co.uk/accessories/product.php?category_id=15
  21. Perhaps you could get some bespoke ones made? I know you said to stay away from Santa, etc. But what about snowflakes? I have seen some nice wedding invites with snow flakes on. Maybe you can buy matching place cards. Maybe a Silver and Blue theme, snow, ice, icicles, etc. If your going for the Christmas colours you might want to got for maybe a Vintage or Victorian feel. Dark greens/reds seem to go well with vintage/Victorian style themes. Maybe miniature lanterns (perhaps like Victorian style Christmas tree lights) that will hold tea lights could be given as favours. Would also look great on the tables if they were lit, especially as it gets dark earlier in winter.
  22. I'm getting married next year and I have no intention of sending save the date cards. I sell wedding stationery so I should probably be telling you to send them but I just don't think it is necessary most of the time. As mentioned above if you know someone who has to book holidays far in advance then maybe send them one. Or perhaps for guests coming out of town or from another country because they will need to make travel and accommodation arrangements. But I think for other guests they aren't really needed.
  23. I'm trying to get quotes for wedding dresses at the moment, I have had quotes from £175.00 to over £500.00. The £175.00 is looking the best at the moment! But I would still like to get more qoutes, however, I get the feeling that the dressmakers that are quoting £500+ are doing so because the word wedding is being used. I say this because I don't want a standard wedding dress, IE, White/Ivory, big train, lots of beads/diamante etc etc. But I appreciate that I want a bespoke dress so I know I will have to pay extra for that. I am looking for a 50's style swing dress. Can any one recommend a dressmaker, not necessarily someone who specialises in wedding dresses, but who would be able make the dress for less than £500.00?
  24. We are now supplying wedding favours. We supply a wide range of satin and organza bags which can be filled with your choice of confectionery. Confectionery choices include Sugar Coated Almonds and Sugar Coated Chocolates. These come in a choice of four colours; Gold, Silver, White and Ivory. You can also choose from our range of alternative fillings such as Mini Eggs, Flying Saucers, Cola Bottles, Jelly Beans, Fried Eggs, Marshmallows and Jelly Bears. We also have clown and teddy bear favour boxes for children. http://www.love2print.co.uk/174/Wedding-Favours.php
  25. I'm am wondering how popular these cards are? So far I've only had one person ask for these. I was thinking about maybe making some free printable ones on my website. They would be personalised with the couple's names and wedding date. There would also be an option to let the customer email it to their friends and family. I am also considering about making some for customers to buy, if there is a market. Also, if anyone's got any suggestions on the type of Save the Date cards they would like to see I'd be happy to hear from you.
