  2. Just tell them you can get it done for £180.00 in sheffield and they always match the price.they are beggin for work at the moment.
  3. the first owner of the bike was a Mr Lawrence Carr in sheffield,the bike went to the chap in the photo who took it to pieces it then went to hull area and was transfered to several people still in pieces and then to castleford still in pieces I bought the bits and the photo came with it being assured that the chap in the photo came from sheffield . Maybe the best route is to find family of Mr Lawrence Carr and start in that direction.. Any suggestions where should I start.

I have an original document from the Sheffield archives that the first owner of the bike was a Mr Lawrence Carr of 140 nidd road,sheffield 9 it was supplied 2 2 1951 But thats not what im looking for I want the place and the name of the chap in the photo he,s the missing link is it really Norman Garratt as someone has suggested? do we have a photo of Norman Garratt? has he lost his hair? al

  6. Is there a sheffield department that looks after street lighting ,the light may have been changed by now but i assume that its still maintained.?
  7. The chap in the photo owned the bike although he is not the first owner I know the first owners name .he is posing somewhere in sheffield after this period he stripped the bike and i assume sold it on in pieces.
  8. The original owner is not the person in the photo as the bike is well used in the photo. the log book is a continuation book so thats no use as its not Sheffield address,s in the book.
  9. It came with a box of comet bits I was told the chap in the photo took the bike to bits with the intention of rebuilding it and his details became lost in the passage of time.The bits were sold on to several people and scattered over the years .

This will keep you all occupied while its raining over the weekend and up to Christmas.Where was this photograph taken? note the brickwork on the side of the house.It was taken in the early 60s do you know the person on the bike ? thanks As requested this is the answer to the question it taken with your back to 79 hollingdale drive/hollinsend avenue S12 Just to finish off this storey the person who we were all looking for has been reunited with his old bike at the sprightly age of 82.His name is Mr Marshall and still lives in Sheffield reunited after 56 years. I am going to start a new quest for the third owner of the bike who was called Alfred Tomlinson and known as TOMMO. thanks again everyone.

  14. yes when you look at the shops at present they are all different but the brickwork on the corners are mostly painted black i assume as it were in Ropers days

  18. thanks for your help its been most usefull I will explain why I am after a Ropers advert/letterhead or any information on their Logo. I have a motorcycle that was prepared and handed over to its new owner in 1951 by Ropers, on the back should be a badge that Ropers screwed onto the number plate its some sort of a Phonix in red thats all I know thats what I am after so I can have it replicated either as a transfer or made as a new badge.thanks for helpin me on the quest .al
  19. retep, thanks for the information maybe I have it wrong with F.A.Ropers and its F.B Ropers as you say unless it was father and son,where would i find an advert from them? is there any other archives that could be tried.what a good response!! thanks al

  22. thanks biker, I stared on the forum a few weeks ago what I wanted to know was did anyone remember Ropers Motorcycles 154-172 London road which I only had one reply out of a city of ex motorbikers i seem to get more replys out of eating Lard Sandwiches as we couldnt afford the meat to make the Dripping so My next thread will be possibly about some food or other maybe penny arrows how much were they by the way?with a subliminal hint on motorcycles. ps I ride a bonneville. al
  23. yes I wanted to know who occupied them from the start ,who built them and for what reason,what type of businesses ran from the buildings. It may have been built by a speculator expecting a rush of foreign immigrants in the 1900s or was it a Co-op type of building.who owns it now?without going to the land registry to find out. al
