British Gas homecare is just an insurance policy, when i worked for British Gas i worked on a lot of boilers that were getting there monies worth in repairs. However lots of customers dont have a fault for years and pay over £200 per year just for a service. I would always recommend a good reliable heating engineer over British Gas, but then again i am a good reliable heating engineer.

I'd agree with complete-heat, saunier duvals are not good boilers, they are even worse when you try and move them.
-
Definately shouldnt be banging, it sounds like a problem with the diverter valve, probably sticking thats why your not getting hot water without having heating on
-
Prob just needs tightening up, check thats its not leaking from the top of the radiator valve (under the plastic cap) and running down, sounds like a straight forward job. I can call tomorow and sort it for you. Give me a call if your interested
-
As an ex british Gas employee i would definately not recomend them, you will pay an arm and a leg and as other guys have said could possibly fininsh up with a contractor with British Gas taking a big chunk of the money. Miss out the middle man, go for someone local. If you want a written quote give me a ring.

How do I change a washer in loft tank please?
ignitegas replied to aliberry's topic in General Discussions
Good luck, tying the ball **** up will only work if the washer you are changing is after the ball valve, if you are trying to change the washer in the ball valve (which is what fills the tank, then this wont work, as a precaution run all the cold taps to disperse the pressure. £90 seems very steep, give it a go. Sounds like batteries need changing, common fault with these models.

A new cylinder would be cheaper, but it could be dead money depending on the age of your boiler. New condensing boilers do have their problems but are much more reliable than when they first came out. If you go for the boiler option make sure you get a good one fitted (worcester or valiant).
