  1. I've just phoned the Humax helpline and they've sent me this email (though I've already tried most of this). Let me know if you have any success! Please follow these steps to refresh the tuners and manually tune into your local transmitter : Power OFF the receiver Disconnect the Aerial cable Power On the receiver Press MENU Select Installation Enter your password (default = 0000) Select Default Setting Select YES Enter your password (Default = 0000) When the receiver restarts, power off Power on the Box press ok on stop (when you see automatic search) ‘no channels found’ press ok ‘press ok to search channels’ press ok select manual search carefully connect the aerial cable (whilst the box is on ) Then please follow the steps below… The following procedure will allow you to receive signal from the Emley Moor transmitter. Go to Channel and select 47. Then select Search. When the search has finished, press save. Now search the following channels one after the other, selecting save after each search; 44, 51, 52, 48.
  2. Yes, I tried retuning without the aerial this afternoon, and it's sorted the TV out, but not the box. However, I haven't tried taking the box back to factory settings (though I HAVE done a full retune each time) , so I must see if I can do that. I'm amazed that I'm getting a perfect picture all the way from Newcastle! I know Crookes is high up, but this is ridiculous!
  3. OK, while Look North is on, I've worked out what BBC 1 is where, and it's weird: TV: Channel 1. Leeds BBC1 - good reception at the moment Ch 800. Newcastle - good reception Ch 807. East Yorks - poor reception Digibox: Ch 1. Newcastle: good reception Ch. 800 Leeds: very poor Ch.801 East Yorks : poor. How can Leeds be good on one and practically non-existent on the other, running from the same aerial? And why Newcastle??! Until the changeover, Leeds was on Channel one on both TV and box, and I had no problems with reception. Looks as if I'll have to call an expert, but can anyone suggest anything else - or just explain what's going on?!
  4. PVR 9300T, which gets good write ups. I think it's over-complicated to use, but until the switchover started it did at least have good reception. Now - terrible- just as you describe. I bought it to record programmes and it won't do them, probably because the reception is so poor, and half the time the programmes aren't even listed on the programme guide, which is pretty useless!
  5. Thankyou! It looks as if that might have sorted out the TV - I've now got Leeds, and better reception on the channels I've looked at. The box still isn't very good though. I'm just going to give it a few days and see what happens. Think of the time I'll save with no recorded programmes to watch
  6. Thanks to all who've replied. Yes, the Leeds BBC channel is down in the 800s -but the reception is hopeless. Until the switchover started, I had perfect Freeview reception and BBC Leeds, so I think the aerial must be OK. Last night tried to record programmes from C4 and BBC1 and neither are there, presumably because the reception wasn't good enough. I'm so fed up - don't know what else I can do now. Have retuned several times and if anything the problems have got worse.
  7. ..I take back that it's OK - I'm watching Look North from Middlesbrough! Leeds is down in the 800s and the reception is abysmal.
  8. Thanks very much for the advice. I've done a factory reset on the TV today, and that seems to be OK. But on the Humax box, wwhich I've also retuned, when I go to the programme guide, most channels show no listings more than about 3 days ahead, making it impossible to set it to record stuff if I'm away for a week. Is this right?
  9. Well I'm glad it's not just me. I've bought a Sony TV and a Humax box in the past few months and was very pleased with both: great reception and 2 lots of the main channels to choose from. Then came retune day: I did a full retune as instructed. The TV is fine, but the reception on the Humax box for BBC1 and BBC2 is rubbish - picture and sound both breaking up and half the time, if I go to the programme guide it's not showing any details - just blank bars, so I can't select programmes to record. The alternatives in the 800s on the list are never there any more. I'm on top of the hill in Crookes and in the attic have been able to get some Freeview channels with an indoor aerial until recently, so I can't understand why there are suddenly problems. I hope it resolves after the final retune. I'm going to be very cross if I have to pay someone to sort this out, as I've had no choice in this switchover. Wish I'd stayed with Sky.
  10. It's not just Fridays. Last week I waited an average of 20 mins for a First 52 every day, morning and evening. On two days buses terminated at Arundel Gate because there was no replacement driver. First claim to run a 7-10 min service on the 52 - they should be prosecuted under the Trade Descriptions Act. The buses just aren't there.
  11. Does anyone know how I can contact the above group, please? Thanks.
  12. Can anyone recommend a removal firm that does European removals? I'm having a nightmare trying to get a load of boxes moved. Pickfords went to the wrong house when they came to estimate, costing me an afternoon off work, and weren't falling over themselves to put the mistake right, which I thought was poor, given their reputation; Appleyard's quotation was ludicrously high - a fleet of taxis might have been cheaper - and though SBS have given us a good quote, it's really difficult to get them to send paperwork through or respond to queries -the fault of a new computer system, apparently. Is there a firm out there which has sensible prices and decent admin? Asking a lot, I know!
  13. They're not on the Companies House database, so not a registered company. Worrying.
  14. I've had trouble giving any money to Stagecoach - twice in the past 2 weeks a half-empty Stagecoach 52 has ignored us and gone straight past the stop in spite of people obviously signalling them to stop. They're more interested in staying ahead of the First bus than in picking up passengers. No wonder they need more money. As someone else has said on this thread, there's always walking for those of us who live near enough to work, and that's what I'm doing in future - this rubbish company doesn't deserve the custom.
  15. What a fantastic picture of the snow! I'e been in Sheffield 19 years, Crookes for 12, and I've only experienced heavy snow a few times, in my first few years here. People used to say "Just wait till you see a proper Sheffield winter!". I'm still waiting... Someone told me that in the winter of 1947 all the fences, walls etc on the Bole Hills had vanished under the snow, and that on the roads leading down towards there, off Crookes, there was snow drifted to the bedroom windows. Anyone remember Crookes in that winter? (I wasn't around then ) It's fascinating to read about people's memories on this thread. I think there used to be a Crookes local history group - it did 2 books - has it disbanded?
  16. Hi I'm just back from the Festival of Quilts at the NEC feeling re-inspired to pick up my patchwork again. It was fun at the show to talk to people I met and it's made me wonder again - is there somewhere in the Sheffield area a group I could join? I've tried groups before and have found that either the members are all very expert and don't really want the less experienced, or - and this has happened more than once - being single is, in a quilting group, rather like being a Martian - I was a curiosity that most people there rarely encountered, and all the talk was of husbands, children and grandchildren. OK up to a point, and I am interested in other people's lives, but it was never reciprocated. Are there any quilters out there who have a group which is supportive of learners and has interests beyond home and family? (Please don't think I'm knocking the latter - not at all - it's just that it excludes me!) Thanks
