  1. Easiest just to block the exit. Customers could use the other exit from the car park.
  2. That's a shame. Spent many a happy hour in there. Will have to head somewhere else next time I'm back.
  3. Very shortly after that time there is a tram. And the presence or not of oncoming traffic? You're assuming all traffic lights work on sensors then? So what happens if a vehicle doesn't trigger the sensor? Or more likely, the sensor is faulty/damaged? If you approached a junction that was controlled by sensors that had developed a fault and for some strange reason hadn't been fixed by 5:30 in the morning, wouldn't you rather there was a timer also built in to the phasing so you didn't sit at a red light until someone showed up to fix it?
  4. It's not Wood Road - it's Ball Road. It's very much not biased towards the side road at all. If you take a look at the junction, you'll see why it's needed. It's purpose isn't just to allow traffic from Ball Road to join Holme Lane. Hint: the tram needs to cross the oncoming traffic flow.
  5. It could also be argued they've not planned their journey correctly. There's not many people starting their journey at the bottom of Walkley Lane and ending it right in the middle of Hillsborough - plenty of opportunity to take a route that doesn't infringe any traffic regulations.
  6. Yep, that's them. And maybe not as old-fashioned as you might think - some of the handle designs are very modern.
  7. It definitely is worth it. Check out somewhere like safetyrazors.co.uk Don't forget a decent brush and cream. Even if you pay for a top of range safety razor, you're only paying pennies for blades - the savings still add up. I'm a big fan of the Merkur Futur.
  8. I often think the test of a good policy or process is what happens when something strays outside it, as seems to be the case here. Clearly, they've got a password policy for good reason. But the operator's either not been able to think for themselves, had a bad attitude, or their system (be it procedural or technical) hasn't allowed them to sort something out. If the attitude of the operator was rude, that's worthy of a complaint to the company, cc'ing the licensing dudes at the council. If the issue is more about how the situation was handled, that needs some suggestions to them on how they handle such occurrences. If they're a good organisation, they'll give it consideration and respond accordingly. Although it sounds like the response you may get is one of disinterest.
  9. Me neither. With the buyer reportedly aware the item's waiting at the sorting office for pick-up and intending to pick it up only after she's been refunded, she's out to scam the seller. The buyer's been either completely unreasonable in their expectations of shipping and how soon they expect a response (at a weekend!), or, is trying to pull a fast one.
  10. You've fulfilled all your obligations. The seller is being deliberately obtuse and is clearly out to try and get the item for free. If eBay side with the buyer, they're bonkers.
  11. Just watch for the licence key maybe being an OEM one (supplied to the hardware manufacturer by Microsoft). If it is an OEM licence, it will only work with an OEM version of the Windows installer.
  12. Don't panic. It doesn't sound like a (costly) problem with your laptop. If you're getting an Openzone page whenever your internet browser, it sounds like your PC may be trying to connect to a nearby wireless network rather than the internet connection you want it to? When you want to go on the internet on it, do you use a wireless connection?
  13. In their entire term in government? Nonsense. They could have bought them back. Or done any number of other things. They decided to use parliamentary time to do other things they considered more important. Labour chose not to do anything about it. Not that it would have stopped the increasing price rises much anyway.
  14. There's only mention of an investigation, no charges yet. There's no mention in the article that she hasn't taken responsibility for her outburst. It may have been an offensive/distressing situation to witness, but there's no facts in that Daily Mail article (who'd have thought!?) to actually form any kind of opinion. Other than the usual cack the Daily Mail wants to promote.
  15. Is it still the case they get paid for completion of the round rather than by the hour? And that's why they're in a hurry to do it?
  16. Wouldn't the cost of the service go through the roof if they had to get the bin from where it was stored at each address? I imagine people would complain more about that than the what, less than 1 minute of effort in putting a bin out - be it once a week or once a fortnight.
  17. If you've got a source that'll pump full HD to it, then yes, it's worth it. I quite enjoyed the Olympics in 3D and play a couple of Xbox games in 3D, but other than that, I've rarely used it. Depending on which manufacturer you go with, they may do 3D differently. And you may love it or hate it - but definitely sit and watch at least half an hour of it in a shop. If they won't demo it to you, go somewhere that will. There's always something better that'll come along later (manufacturers are already demo-ing the high-resolution technology that'll come after what's seen as going to be the step after current "HD").
  18. I seem to remember the signs before many roundabouts having parallel white lines indicating if there was more than one "route" through the roundabout - showing how many lanes were at the exit.
  19. I was taught yes, but only if the exit is two lanes. But then again I've just looked at the current highway code site and it's bonkers - http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/travelandtransport/highwaycode/dg_070338 Rule 185, if in real life the car in green tried to be in the right lane on approach and then the left lane on exit, he/she'd be sideswiping someone I'd bet.
  20. I think there was a link to the council page with the dates they were being worked on in in this thread http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1017632
  21. I did. Here, I have two big 120l bins. One is for general waste, one for paper, plastic, glass etc. The general one gets collected once a week, the recycling one every two weeks. Seems to work OK. Anything else that can be recycled/resold can be taken to the recycling centre (for free - even in my ute). If it doesn't fit in your bin, can't be recycled and you need to get rid of it at the tip, you pay by weight with a minimum $30 (call it three pints of beer in accurate conversion). Every few months there's kerbside collection days. They alternate between green and household waste. Essentially, you wait till one of those days and then put anything you don't need anymore outside your house and it's picked up and taken to be recycled/disposed of by the council - furniture, electrical anything. All of it removed for nowt. Amount of fly-tipping here? Unsurprisingly, I've not seen any yet.
  22. The Star still makes me laugh. "Chaos", really? Or just the collection run taking a little longer the first few times while they learn the new route? And how different can the routes be? Same houses, same bins, just not as often.
  23. Windows Phone 8 won't be coming to a lot of the current devices. There was a big kerfuffle about it a couple of months back e.g. http://mashable.com/2012/06/25/lumia-why-no-upgrade/
