  1. They are not a tribute band but check these guys out http://www.toffeemusic.co.uk They raise money for charity and deliver a cracking evening's entertainment. Great for Care Homes as they sing a variety of music from back in the days. They have a great rapport with the audience and play/sing many requests. Worth bearing these guys in mind for future events if not appropriate for the current one. Good luck.
  2. Hi FOUREYES62, No, I do not know of a relation called Trevor in our family but you never know..... somewhere down the line there may be a link!
  3. Really enjoyed reading everyone's memories on here. I was born at the back of 42 Clarence Street and moved to Fox Hill around 1962 when the houses were demolished. I only lived on Clarence Street for 5 years but your memories on here have helped to jog mine. In particular I can remember going to the sweet shop but I also remember a Barbers shop across the road. I'm not sure if they had a child's car that you could sit in whilst your hair was cut. I always looked like a boy when I came out. Hated having my hair cut! But the one thing that stands out in my memory is the outdoor toilet and the squares of newspaper on a butchers hook behind the toilet door. I was always covered in newspaper print.
  4. Yep... don't think you'll be far out with that date Shaznay.
  5. Not sure of the year Shaznay. Wish my parents had put a date on the back of the picture. I remember many of the faces on the picture but can only put a name to a couple (Wendy Hallam and Ian Wade). I have a terrible memory for names and am kicking myself because I'm sure I'd recognise most of the names if I heard them. Would love people to identify themselves on the pic. I'm second from the left on the front row of the girls by the way.... a proper chubster! LOL!
  6. Joto, thanks for the info. Hoping this link works. I'm useless with technology!
  7. I've come across an old class picture at Foxhill Infants and Junior School but unfortunately I have yet to find a way to upload it onto here. DOH!
  8. Hi Ash, No, I don't work at Gala but the amount of time I spend there (and money), I may as well! I would probably recognise you if you work there regularly. All the staff there are helpful and friendly. I just wish I could secure a win sometime soon! LOL!
  9. Apparently the alarms went off in the kitchen. Probably some crumbs left burning in the bottom of the toaster! We were all asked to evacuate the premises whilst the building was checked but no fires were found. It caused serious delays to the bingo calling but more importantly........ the draft beer was off due to the power cut! Such is life!
  10. Hi Shaznay, Sadly, I'm older than you (56) so our paths may not have crossed. I did attend Foxhill Junior School though and then went on to Yewlands School.
  11. Yep........can remember both but didn't know about the oranges.... drat!.....sounds like I missed out! ps. Yes, and Swanny is oreit thanks for asking! LOL!
  12. I too have only just come across this thread. How lovely to hear all the memories you all recall of Foxhill. I lived at 21 Foxhill Way and have happy memories of my time there. My surname was 'Carr' then and I lived there from the mid 60s with my parents. We had to move to a cheaper home around 1970 because we couldn't afford the rent. I remember many a night crouched behind the sofa hiding from the rent man! It's ironic really as my friends always thought my family were rich but we were far from rich and moving home broke all of our hearts, especially my Mother's. I hated the house we moved to and I sobbed for months but I digress. I recognise many of the names mentioned in this thread and also the activities undertaken. I loved going to the farm and up the lanes picking goosegobs (as we called them). I loved sliding down the banking on books or tin lids when it snowed. There was a slope outside our house where we put books on top of skates and sat on them to ride down. Great fun. I remember the van and the 'Pop and crisp' man coming around and the Rag and Bone man. I was sent to bed early on one occasion for exchanging a pair of my Mum's shoes for a balloon. She was furious when she found out what I'd done. So many, many happy memories... too numerous to mention but lovely to be reminded of them.
  13. Hello BellaT. Park View Residential Care Home, Sicey Avenue, Sheffield were fabulous with an Aunt of mine. I understand their waiting list is increasing but it may still be worth adding to the list. Staff are very friendly and they organise trips and activities for residents. Good luck with your search and all the best to your Mum.
  14. Hi regblind. I agree with everyone who has posted above and would recommend you report this to the Store Manager. It is not nice for anyone to experience such unhelpfulness as it can take courage for some people to ask for help. The Manager will be (or should be) aware of the Disability Discrimination Act and know that it is unlawful to discriminate against disabled people. It goes without saying however, that you shouldn't have to be quoting laws. I hope this is a 'one off' experience for you and that you receive better service in future.
  15. Just an update with my 'tree' situation. Before I had time to seek legal advice, I returned home to find that the council had revisited my home and cut all the branches growing over my roof back. I am delighted. The house is so much lighter now and I can see through my side window. Many thanks once again Forum members for responding to my post. Best wishes.
