  1. I'm using Firefox and Windows 7, I don't see why that should make any real difference and I've tried following your other link again to a page I've already seen, i click on the download free version button it downloads and then install it and then rather than allowing it to update or open automatically i open it myself and yet again it states that I have got the trial version installed. I am now going to get my laptop out that is still running windows xp and start comparing what each machine shows and am now beginning to think this machine has a severe problem as internet explorer fails to load pages and all I get is a blank/white page although the toollbars are shown whenever I try to click on a link from another page and it wont download any files when using the IE 10 notification bar.
  2. I'd come across the page suggested by megalithic but am pretty sure I've never had to fill in a form before, I suppose if I have to I could but am wondering what they need my email address for. maybe I should set up another email address so all the spam and junk I get can go to that one
  3. Hi, I have used the program malwarebytes for a long time and am trying to find an actual page with a download link for the free version, not the pro version or a free download of the pro version or a download of the free thirty day trial of the pro version. As you can see I've looked at various pages but either malwarebytes free is no longer accessible or the download link has been hidden somewhere carefully. Last time I downloaded it I went to a page with two columns of ticks which showed what the free and pro versions did and you just clicked the download button at the bottom of one or other of the columns, I can't find that page either. Anybody care to point me at the correct page and where on that page the correct download button is.
  4. I was just thinking about my grandfathers gardens numerous flower beds and lawns that seemed to go on forever. I suppose roughly a hundred metres wide and six hundred metres long, as I said it was big. Now with all that amount of area to prune, cut back and mow pllus the weeding we used to hate going there to stay as kids as we were all expected to be unpaid workers. However nothing went in the one metal dustbin it all got dumped in the compost heap which was tucked away by the old brick built air raid shelter, People nowadays seem to think a compost pile is totally wrong so then feel the need to dispose of all their garden waste somewhere else
  5. I've said for ages that until the punishments are increased then some people will just continue to be anti social and criminals. So for example if some-one is caught on a bike riding off road they will get a fine possibly, possibly points on their non existent license and then that's it. Now why can't the authorities go to the persons house, the fine covers the cost of the baliffs and then they find there computer, TV, phone and other things of value are remove to be sold off at auction. Burglars fitted with ankle GPS brace lets so they can be kept tabs on so they can't break in to a house and not be identified. A police helicopter I suspect has nothing to threaten an oppertunist burglar.
  6. I was looking around for a reasonably priced secondhand laptop and really struggled to find much. There are a few shops that sell machines but not with a warranty of anything more than thirty ddays. Looking at a place at Dronfield the prices looked okay but when you really looked at the specifications they weren't that good. I also considered the place at parson Cross that sells refurbished machines but don't think they offered a warranty. I am mildly suprised that in a city of this size there isn't a shop which stocks a wide range of machines and the only place i found with a selection of over a dozen was the computer shop at Hillsborough on Taplin road i seem to remember.
  7. I hope that Sheffield forum changes rather than the numerous posts with people complaining about something the threads would tend to be more of a complaint followed by the complainer having contacted the relevant body/authority/business and then reporting what the response was to their complaint.
  8. I always assumed it was up to the business owner to decide and indeed have been in plenty of places were dogs are welcome but I've also had personal experience of being told it's against a health and safety rule or law so wondered if there was something that had popped up that I'd missed. On a different note did you know dogs are not allowed to go through the winter garden in town and again I was told to stop doing it because it was a health and safety issue.
  9. I'm mildly curious and so thought I'd ask, could anyone actually point me at some written stipulation that animals should not be allowed on premises serving food. I'd be interested to see what the law actually says as i suspect that there probably isn't anything in health and safety ruling
  10. I'm reminded of the cafe in Graves park that a few years ago allowed dogs in and then some old biddy complained. The staff said I couldn't take my dog in any longer as it was against health and safety although couldn't actually quote me anything. I suggested two options, a cover outside so owners could sit out of the rain which apparently wasn't feasible because of the cost. My other idea was to have a small area fenced off inside much like the large children's play area where dog owners could sit, this again was supposedly impossible because it limited the available seating. Sorry but the kids play area limits seating. Anyway I was in there one day with a friend and the place was vile with the sheer noise of the kids running amuck what really peeved me was the little sod who ran out of the play area and straight to the table were I was sitting, green trail of snot running from his nose the remnants of an ice cream plastered round his mouth and a cough like a sixty a day old man. Give me a dog any day.
  11. Never noticed an offensive smell and I use those toilets usually at least once a month. I thought the reference to the town hall was in fact the actual town hall although unless you knew there were toilets in there most people wouldn't venture in to find them.
  12. Seems odd with people saying it lacks character and all the old familiar faces have gone whilst others say that quite a few of the old market stallholders have transferred to the new market. As far as trade goes rather than believing as gospel that the rents are going to be astronomical and the stalls aren't taking anything like as much in cash then I'd prefer a stallholder to poke their head above the parapet and comment on how they are finding things.
  13. Must admit I'm still curious to know where all the council run toilets in the city centre are that have been closed as the council try to save money . If you know the centre then it's really not that difficult to find a loo if needed even with the council ones now being closed. Last time i was in Oxford I almost wet myself as all the loo's were in places which would only let you use them if you bought something, rather difficult with 50p to my name at that time, cafes, coffee shops and the like. There are new toilets that the pub lic can use in the new market hall and I've even discovered the one's in the Millenium gallery although I've not bothered to check if the one's in the central library are still open or not.
  14. I always remember in the Crystal Peaks car park reversing out of a rather tight parking spot and the guy across the lane from me moving out at the same moment. Neither of us saw the other till the last second and so my car touched his car as I'd already slammed on the brakes. he hopped out of his car like an irritated jack rabbit accusing me of being the worst driver he'd ever come across and I had to pay cash for the damage to his car. I looked and couldn't see any damage the collision had been so gentle until he pointed at a hole just above the wheel arch not even close to where my bumper had touched his car. The hole was obviously one made by rust and I said so which he didn't like as his car apparently was in perfect condition and did I think I were an F*** car body specialist. He then demanded I hand over a £100 there and then and as he was by now upsetting my girlfriend I told him to go away and stop being an idiot. I then left him going purple with rage and screaming that he knew people and I'd be having a visitor soon, that was about ten years ago and I'm still waiting.
  15. If you know what you're doing open the set up and check that all the capacitors are in working order. Same thing happened with my set and it cost 59p for a new capacitor from Bardwells, I hate to imagine what a TV repair guy would of charged
  16. I doubt that it is abandoned as the kids in the area would of trashed it by now in fact if it has been sitting therefor as long as you say I'm suprised it hasn't been damaged at the very least. I'd go and knock at a few doors although during daylight hours and not looking too scruffy less chance then of seeming threatening towards any little old dears and in daylight they get to see you clearly.
  17. Just recently found myself watching The italian Job, the original one just to see the mini's driving through the round sewer tunnel. I often find if I am thinking of a film there will be one or two specific bits that i remember so for the original The day the earth stood still it has to be when the robot comes out of the saucer and starts vaporising weapons and in Avanti rather than a scene it's the theme music. Still laugh out loud when kirk Douglas is caught up by the train in Cactus jack as well
  18. I don't think there are warning signs up anywhere as the unfinished state of the surface should be a big enough clue to the area being a mite dangerous. One of the roads near me was scraped but then work seemed to stop for a couple of days and so the surface was very un-even with raised metalwork and some quite sizeab e ridges so I just knew to take particular care. I'd like to bet if the pavements have been left unfinished then it'll have something to do with the myriad problems Amey are finding with the electrical cables and they have admitted they haven't got enough workmen qualified to work on live electrical cabling which means they are way behind in some areas. However unless people actually start contacting Amey and expressing their dissatisfaction and also getting the local councillors to speak up then Amey seem to think they're doing a good job. That's why I've managed to get the name and number of the officer in charge of my area and I've already contacted him two or three times on some things which have then been dealt with. Hope your sister is okay though.
  19. It's no more on the edge of the centre than the old market was and in fact as I live on that side for me it's at the start of the city centre rather than the far end. The bus companies have already said they may re-route some buses to go past the new market building and as and when the tram system is extended I'm sure I noticed a line going very close to that area as well. I have no idea what things they took into account when putting the existing tram routes in but doubt if the location of the then existing market was a big concern after all that area was already sliding down as it has been since the closure of SSssheaf market.
  20. So for years people have complained about the city retail area being too spread out and now it's being more compacted people are still moaning. My only interest in that part of the centre which I raised with the guys at that public show about the plann for the city was the time scale involved in clearing the old market away. I said if it was left for a couple of years then that would be bad as it'll only become more and more rundown and derelict.. I can understand why the plans for a new development haven't been cast in stone as until they get on site and do a dig they don't actually know what there is that could be of interest. I do remember some-one in a meeting ages ago mentioning that there are some idea's to make the river much more of a focal point by shelving and widening the banking. Obviously then in times of flood buildings are going to be a bit further away from the river and for any in more precarious positions the idea seemed to be to put the car parks in the base of a building and actual office/accomadation space to start at first floor level which makes sense.
  21. Does anyone know if there are signs warning of possible strong winds, if there are signs up then she doesn't have a chance. Also if a road is closed off because of the issues then wouldn't anybody on foot be expected to notice the road closure signs and therefore realise that it may not be sensible to proceed.
  22. Another bad way of doing things, I often think there should be a panel made up of everyday folk with no political leaning to oversee these things. My suggestion would be to make them sign in and out and then pay them an amount based on hours spent actually working. Second thing I'd do is close down any alcohol serving areas and get Mac Dee's to offer them food. I could find other things to alter but seeing as how the man in the street may get to hear about bad practices they can do little or nothing to alter such things from happening. Look at all the mps caught fiddling their expenses, how many were kicked out of office and forever denied re-admittance?
  23. If the tree's aren't causing problems with their surroundings then the next factor to consider is the age of the tree. i did a quick Google and it looks as though Horse chestnut ttree's have a life span of about 75 years when on a street they survive longer in a woodland setting. The replacement tree's I discovered aren't going to be small saplings as I was told that Amey were very aware that smaller tree's could be either stolen or damaged so I'm going to be interested to see just how big the new tree's are going to be when they are/put in. ---------- Post added 17-12-2013 at 18:44 ---------- That's on the route of the new green path which is going to be suitable for cyclists. I think because of the location of the monument and the ground in that area the path has to be routed so it has as less of a gradient as possible. It's not an Amey job it's the parks and countryside designing these new paths and I seem to remember they did ssay they would be putting up signage explaining what they were up too as they were aware nobody likes seeing tree's cleared without any sort of explanation.
  24. I assume you might think differently if an old tree with weak branches was left to fall down possibly on some-ones head or car, there are a lot of ttree's that are very old [for their type] and so they need to be replaced. If Amey are mucking up verges that are also their concern then I imagine a phone call to them will result in you getting an idea as to when and how the verges are going to be repaired but I've noticed Amey don't seem able to keep the public informed or even to work so that as one team finishes part of the job the next team are ready to move in and complete their part which mmeans people start thinking things are going to be left un-finished.
  25. Trees on pavements can be chopped down if they are too big and so making movement along the pavement difficult, if the roots are causing the road or pavement to break up or as in most of the cases if they have come to the end of their lives as far as safety goes. I was nattering with an Amey boss and he said that a lot of the trees could be felled as they are past their best by date and no amount of pruning will make them safe. Any tree removed will be replaced but by specimens more suited to the conditions, i.e. not those that have boughs coming out low down or those pesky Lime trees that sprout out at ground level. I'm trying to think were the trees in the ops post are but it may be that a green path is being designed such as from Norfolk park to the Cholera monument which will involve felling some trees
