  1. The link above worked for me a moment ago - Thanks craigpugh. Groups can get free web pages by going to http://www.googlepages.com/accounts and signing up for a Gmail account. See http://ecclesfield.googlepages.com for example
  2. Thanks Stu, for pointing out my error. Google has put this thread in its "pages from the UK", search results, so with luck, it might put my updated site in as well.
  3. If anybody wants to take over a Pub such as the White Bear in Ecclesfield, or has a new use for this or the other large historic buildings that are in danger of being demolished, then they can contact the Ecclesfield conservation group at ... http://conservation.ecclesfield.googlepages.com/
  4. Google provide both page editing and hosting for free (adverts may come later). You can get an account at https://www.google.com/accounts/NewAccount and produce fairly complex sites such as ...http://ecclesfield.googlepages.com/
  5. I have found that US hosting, especially of *.com domains, is not a good idea. Two months after using Webmaster Tools to set the geographic target to UK, my five or so sites still do not appear in "pages from the UK" Google searches. You can see the crazy lengths I am having to go to convince Google that my sites are of interest to UK searchers by looking at ... http://www.25thecclesfield.googlepages.com
  6. I have made my 1.5 GHz Athlon just about usable again by disabling the moving graphics that is so common on web pages nowadays. Go into Internet Explorer (IE7) > Tools > Manage Add-Ons > disable or enable Add-Ons, and scroll down to "Shockwave Flash Object". Select it, then click on Disable.
  7. I'm thinking that the ebay price of old iPhones, and N95's might start to come down from 11th July when the new iPhone comes out:)
  8. If you use a flat screen, then you can get the improved Vista (or Apple) like text by installing the "ClearType" Power Toy from Microsoft's site. I have not noticed any slowing down (of my 1.7 GHz laptop), but the text is definately more readable.
  9. True, but I think the messing about needed to get text to fit on to labels is too time consuming compared to simply writing them. Printing cards is time consuming enough, but more useful.
  10. Be careful changing Internet Service Providers! If you are already using the ISP's own Local Loop Unbundling (LLU) equipment, then from what I read, the change over usually leaves you without ADSL for around 10 days. Certanly, I could not get "Be" to accept an order for ADSL+. Apparently I would have to terminate my existing contract with Bulldog, wait until my line appeared on the database as a BT line, before placing the order with Be and joining the que for connection to Be's equipment.
