  1. The East Ocean Cafe. I really rate this place, I've always had good service and great food there. They do a wide range of oriental food, I tend to go for the sushi, if you want to hedge your bets then a japanese bento box (i like the pork and ginger one) would suit you fine (rice, 3 small sushi, whatever 'main' you've selected, tempura [lightly battered fried veg], japanese style salad side, etc...). It's not to pricey either, cheaper than WasabiSabi and pretty good quality in my opinion. - Jim
  2. heh, im only kidding though, im actually all for equal rights. i dont see any problem why same sex marriages shouldnt happen and be legally valid the same as any heterosexual marriage. one thing ive never been able to understand though, is why gay club nights always have to be named with such vulgarity. i think of gay relationships the same as i do straight, but whats the difference between the two in the appeal of nightclubs? they always seem to have names like 'ejaculation' or 'trouser snake' or somesuchness. ill see you all at Rim-Job at Climax, next week i hope!
  3. lets not forget the ladies, if two women love each other and want to get married then they should be able to! and should they want to send me photos of their wedding night, they wouldnt go to waste! all entrys post to PO BOX...
  4. im just about to go back for my second year of Computing w/ Networks Bsc (Hons), and if im completely honest my opinion is mixed. On my particular course, there is roughly 50/50 good to bad points in my opinion. some lecturers are remarkably helpful and go out of their way to help you all the time. These people make university worth going to i think, because what i had hoped university to be like - they go out of their way to make it so. Unfortunately, hallam seem to like to employ an equal number of arguably substandard and personally very dislikable people who for some reason are just not very nice people. i dont get why, but there you go - and its not just on my course, i have friends on about 5-6 different courses who would say exactly the same thing. oh well. and my experiences of the time-tables arent that great either, some of my lecturers had some right jip trying to get my course lecture/seminar timeslots that werent 5 hours apart and some at 7-8pm at night! In fairness, i can probably blame this on the ineptitude of those 50% of crap lecturers i mentioned above, as coincidentally most of the administration, etc... problems happened to be in their units. All in all, i think the ideas there, but it really does depend on what your course is like. ahh well, maybe im just bitter lol i dont mean to make it out worse than it is! -Jim
  5. im not sure sheffield is so hot for Alt.Country, me and my friends ended up having to go to Nottingham to see Iron and Wine back in november, but we did discover that Micah P Hinson was playing at the Boardwalk a few weeks later so we caught him too. *edit* Just remembered that The Earlies (and Twisted Folk) played the Leadmill a few months ago. Hem supported and were really really good, if you come across a copy of Eveningland, get it!
  6. hey all, im asking for suggestions on going out in the town centre for food and a chill on a sunday evening (tomorrow!). Me and my friends are students from sheffield, but we are a bit bored with our usual places and fancy trying somewhere new. ideally the place(s) would be cheap, do nice food (a biggy), with an atmosphere thats mellow (nothing clubby or anything). a nice place to hang out, etc... i realise this is quite a tall order, but id appreciate any ideas you might have! our regulars are Lloyds no1 (and pretty much any JD Wetherspoons place), occasionally the Devonshire Cat and a couple of other bars and pubs dotted about that i cant fully remember... so please no suggestions of a wetherspoons! thanks, Jim
  7. intelligent debate? you are needlessly labelling the student community of being involved in irresponsible and criminalistic behavior. which this is almost certainly true of some members of the community, it is by far not all. the REAL bone of contention is the fact you singled out hallam students. this makes you look a pretentious and condescending busybody who is too blinded by his redbrick degrees to remember what student life is really like.
  8. t020, normally i am, but i must admit on occasion i have been a little worseR for wear than i should have been. this is nothing to do with the university, and as such i wouldnt expect them to do anything. dont expect a reply to your letter, because student life has happened like this for decades. and another thing, don't apply your 'kerazy's tudent years to us, cos for one you sound like one boring individual.
  9. wowowo GPR, didn't you know it was only 18-21 year olds who vandalise things and also that ALL students are beer swilling 'louts'?? and why is it Hallams problem anyway, is drunken tomfoolery BELOW the lords and ladies at Sheffield University then? you people make me sick, if im ever like you whining about stuff that you and your generation did just as much then i think ill just go drink some bleach, and save the world the trouble
  10. you know reading this sort of wound me up. with regards the allergy, thats perfectly reasonable, but to insist on the changes to a highly regimented efficiency based system and then complain when it isnt to your high standards is a little UNreasonable. you know how the stereotypes go, burgerflippers at maccy-dees and all, so why get funny about it when they do a few things wrong? i guess you've never made a mistake then. to make your order they would have to go to special lengths to make a specific variant burger just for you. you say 'how can they have gotten 4 things wrong?' but bear in mind than you are asking for more to be done than simply 'not putting the sauces on'. they are just trying to do their job and thats it, cut them some slack. or maybe next time YOU slip up at work there'll be someone ready to post on forums about YOU. goodnight, MagnumPI
  11. or you could: a) research your purchase - is it really THAT hard to click round a few sites? b) be happy with your supposed 'top of the line (at the time)' purchase - just because a newer model has come out doesnt make your gear crap, it still works just the same, and does exactly what you bought it for, so who cares about the new model? unless you bought it to be 'cool' and if so then you deserve it.
  12. lol well thats true but it really comes across that way - as if they are all the downtrodden, unrecognised crusaders of the public transport world -Jim
  13. so you are saying you deserve a heroes wage just because you put up with crap from the public at work? most drivers out there get abused on the road, be they bus, car, lorry, cyclists, motorbikers, etc... so dont feel like you are being singled out - its a fact of life. everyone has to put up with crap at work at some point, so boo hoo hoo. you make it out like you are the same as the fire service when they went on strike! at least they really were risking their lives for a crap wage. and another thing, you say the grumpy attitudes are reactionary to thye public mistreating of you poor poor bus drivers, and that you arent all the same? neither are we, so why are we expected to put up with the bad moods of the 'grumpy gits'?? -Jim
  14. so you are saying that because they are currently sucessful they deserve to be subjected to such coercion? its ok for them to be pressured out of money, just because they CAN afford it? while you are at it, why dont you nick First's CEOs TV while you are at it, i mean he can afford another one - no harm done! -Jim
