  1. Hi

Has anyone out there had LASEK eye surgery? I am especially interested in the recovery time and the level of discomfort after this type of laser surgery.

I went for a consultation yesterday and due to my prescription I need either LASIK Intralase (which is out of my budget) or LASEK with Intralase (being the cheaper option as this has a longer recovery time).

I'd love to hear from anyone who can tell me their experience of LASEK surgery.

    Thanks!

  2. Can I just put everyone straight regarding this matter as I personally know the company involved which is promoting these fragrances.

    a) The products are not stolen.

    b) The fragrances are not counterfeit and are not trying to be something they aren't - They are all legitimate quality fragrances. The company doesn't have massive overheads (unlike Dept stores) and they are not designer fragrances, so they are fantastic value for money.

    c) Fragrance is a matter of personal preference. Everyone has their likes and dislikes when it comes to perfume and aftershave. Next time you see this promotion try smelling them rather than belittling what is actually on sale.

    d) Just for once take something at face value - there is no catch - just like all of us, the promotional staff are just trying to make a living.

  3. Well I'm not sure if this is a little sedate for what you are after but here's a thought anyhow!

I run my own business producing handcrafted pure silver fingerprint jewellery and keepsakes. If the ladies have any special people in their lives - children, grandchildren etc, I can take an impression of their fingerprint and capture it in pure silver -a gift to be cherished forever!

There's something for everyone - charms, cufflinks, pendants, bookmarks, keyrings etc. I can engrave each piece with names, dob or a special message, or if you wish I can set it with a gemstone.

    Thanks!

  4. Hi

I think this is a great idea. I have 2 boys aged 2 & 3 and quite frequently think to myself lets do something creative today. Then I think back to the last time we got the paints out, and decide against it!!!

I've very recently set up my own business producing handcrafted silver fingerprint jewellery and keepsakes and the response I have had is very encouraging to say that we are facing a recession.

  5. At that age your best of seeing what his mum needs for him or what about something to remember when he is older like those handprint casts?

what about making a baby hamper of treats especially for little ones and handy things like a rescue/activity kit for keeping him entertained when mum takes him out.

Here's a similar idea to waxonwaxoff, although it might be a more appropriate gift for parent/grandparents-

I run my own business producing handcrafted pure silver fingerprint jewellery and keepsakes. I work from a small workshop at home, I make all of the jewellery myself by hand, totally from scratch. All of my pieces are 99.9% silver, so it really is fine jewellery and not the usual sterling silver.

The silver begins life as a clay which is fired at a high temperature and becomes pure silver! This means that a persons finger can be pressed directly into the clay to take an imprint, which makes the piece totally unique and individual. I either travel to customers homes to take the prints (if it isn't too far away) or the customer can come to my home.

There's something for everyone - individual charms, cufflinks, pendants, bookmarks, keyrings etc. I can engrave each piece with names, dob or a special message, or if you wish they can be set with a gemstone.

Please drop me an e-mail if you would like further details - [email protected]

    Thanks

  6. Hi

How about something really special and unique? I make handcrafted pure silver fingerprint jewellery.

I could handcraft a pair of cufflinks for your future husband imprinted with your fingerprint - the silver begins life as clay and when it is fired it is 99.9% silver?

I can engrave the pieces with names or maybe your wedding date as a reminder of your special day (ensures the hubby never forgets the anniversary!!!) I can also set with gemstones.

If you are interested please e-mail me at [email protected]

    Thanks

You could possibly give them a gift certificate or I could produce either a pair of cufflinks or a keyring for the bestman/groom with an imprint of a fingerprint belonging to someone special.

I can engrave the pieces with names or maybe the wedding date - I can also set with gemstones.

  9. Hi, I also had my first child's hands and feet 'done' by kindercast and wanted my second sons prints done as well. I've also found their website isn't available and their freephone number has been disconnected, so I can only assume they aren't trading anymore which is a great shame.

However, I run my own business called 'The Unique Boutique'. I create handcrafted pure silver fingerprint jewellery and keepsakes. I make lots of different items from keyrings, bookmarks, cufflinks, charm bracelets, pendants, Christmas ornaments etc etc (many shapes and sizes available), the centre piece of each being your loved ones fingerprints. I also engrave the pieces with names, dates of birth, anniversary dates etc and can also set stones into the finished piece. It's a lovely way to mark a special occasion or event. More than one fingerprint can be captured on certain pieces (and charms can be added to a bracelet as a family grows). Prices start from £30. If you are interested my email is:

    [email protected]

  10. After 3 years of unexplained infertility I underwent 3 attempts of IUI (took a course of clomid each time) and on the third attempt we fell pregnant with our wonderful son. 5 months after my son was born (after not taking any precautions -oops!) I fell happily pregnant with my second son!!!

So draw from this your own conclusions! The specialist said that 'it was like starting a car - once your body has gone through the process once, it knows what to do!'

Who knows if I would have fallen pregnant naturally the first time if I had waited, all I know is that 3 years was long enough to wait and clomid and IUI worked for me and gave my body the 'kickstart' it needed.

  12. Hi Sarah1982

I actually make charms for bracelets, they are not the official links charms but are my own handcrafted solid silver fingerprint charms. I actually have my own sweetie bracelet and if I do say so myself the charms do look fantastic alongside them.

If you have your own children, nieces, nephews or indeed any other loved one, then I can capture their fingerprint in pure silver and engrave it with their name and even set a gemstone into it. I do all shapes and sizes (hearts, stars, flowers etc). Not sure if this is the kind of thing you are looking for, but my charms are totally bespoke and unique, prices start from £15. If interested please email me at [email protected] and we can arrange an appointment. Thanks!

  13. I can't recommend one Nursery highly enough in S35. It's Lilypad on Whitley Lane (near Whitley Hall). It's like something out of the Darling Buds of May!!! They have rabbits, chickens, fish, gerbils...you name it. The kids go on walks in the surrounding countryside (the owners family own the farm next door). All of the staff have worked together for about 8 years I think, so they are really experienced and work well together. They are really attentive and engage with the kids wonderfully. I have to leave a pair of slippers and a pair of wellies at nursery as the great outdoors is a big thing with them, they are always having adventures! When the kids go back into the nurrsery they change into their slippers! Check out their ofsted report, thats what led me to visit the Nursery and I wasn't disappointed. Lovely atmosphere and my little boy (who's 3) is always asking 'when is it time to go to Nursery?' I think they are full at the moment (but they do have a waiting list) as they only take 12 children per session (3 staff to 12 kids, so great ratio).

  14. Hi

I had an emergency c-section at Jessops with my first son in 2005 - later went on to have my second son (in 2006) the 'normal' route!

Personally, I thought the surgeon who carried out the procedure was marvellous. I was in no pain both during and after the op, but as I'm sure others will agree who have had a c-section, it does leave you feeling uncomfortable for a few weeks. My scar is hardly visible and I dont have any discomfort. Your midwife will keep a check on your stitches, which may be the dissolving type. After the c-section the hospital will give you some rather fetching tights to wear, to help the circulation. Only thing to do is keep the scar clean and dry and you'll be absolutely fine

  15. What fantastic memories, it all comes flooding back. Does anyone remember the pet shop on the corner of Owler Lane across from Rushby St and the bakery (Gregory's I think it was called)? And Jeavons dentists also on Rushby St. A favorite of mine was Browns, the toy shop! I also used to love Sunday afternoons when the boys brigade used to parade through the streets with their drums and bugles, the chap in the lead really used to fancy himself! Ah....those were the days.
